Maybe your use of "exchange of wives" is subject to interpretation because I never saw or heard of such in Islam, neither in the north nor anywhere else. On the contrary, in the North here in Nigeria, muslim wives are more like wilful prisoners who are not allowed to show their face to any man except their husbands. Not even their father-in-law.
