Hi,

I was offered admission to UTA and I have no clue what to expect. I'm currently studying at University of New Haven. CT. I want to transfer to UTA but I need to know how things work over there because here just seem to be an Indian or Arab school with few other races. There are little or No assistantships for internationals so it's really difficult here. I feel if the school doesn't want to offer assistantships, then value for money becomes important. So let me know what UTA looks like, transportation to school (I no get car) and jobs too. By the way I'm studying Ms Mechanical Engineering.

I did apply and did speak with profs. They are playing the silent game on me. "You see that when you get your admission package".

What you need is the confirmation letter from the school that they have received payment.

If you get any form assistantship in UTA and the department is good for your career plan, then go. Paying out of pocket isn't worth it.

Most grad schools are like Indian schools, so don't expect to see lot of Americans except you're in a medical school.

Good luck! Not Jonathan.

Oh thanks. A friend of mine in the US told me most of their students are on one form of scholarship and assistantships. I want to know if that's true before I pay my processing fee and continue with the application. Thanks.

I came across a column on the sevis form that requires passport number(if available) .
My passport is currently expired and I heard passport number changes when passport is renewed.

Please do I go ahead and fill the form without the passport number or do I wait till I renew the passport and then go ahead with the form?

Thanks guys

You can pay without the passport number, but I would advice you wait as sevis fee payment is not a biggie. Once you pay via western union within 48hrs it will reflect for you to print your receipt.

Anyone one you're comfortable with is ok. Renew and pay your sevis fee with or or pay without your passport number.

it is expensive. It's 9months so decide it by the amount. It's expensive to me. If you have the cash you can pay. They should allow you pay per semester.

When I read interview transcripts and people say they weren't asked for their documents, I always find it very hard to believe, until it happened to me this morning.
6:30am appointment, Lagos Visa Office, Window 6
VO: Good Morning
Me: Good Morning Sir
VO: Why are u going to d US
Me: To obtain a master's degree in Public Health
VO: How did u know about d sch?
Me: Did some extensive research online via usnews.com and Google.com, and narrowed my search to my sch
VO: Why this sch?
Me: This was where I hijacked the interview, gave him a brief lecture on the public health concentration/specialization areas my school offers and how it aligned with my career aspirations, integrated it with implementation of that specific knowledge and skill in the Nigerian healthcare system.
and convinced him why my school offers the ideal academic structure. VO then cuts in while I was talking, and said those magic words....visa approved.

No documents where asked for, not even bank statements and tests results, and to think my folder couldn't contain my documents, had to put them in a bag.

The key learning here is, prepare yourself, be confident, answer intelligently, that way you don't give the VO an opportunity to find a fault.
Above all, and most importantly...say a word of prayer, you have no idea how much it will do.

Goodluck to potential applicants

My cousin was granted yesterday at the Lagos embassy without asking for a single document or test score . Everything boils down to God's grace and how prepared you are.
