Hello klint,

You were wrongly informed. There is no difference please. However, there is what you might consider a difference in emission system, which is not peculiar to 406 produced by PAN.

Some foreign produced 406 phase II have downstream sensors while some don't. You can tell by their VIN. The ones RFR on their VINs mostly don't have that sensor, while those with RFN and others do have. This make the engine wiring harness and ECU different, even if they run on the same engine.

Now, for 406 phase II produced by PAN, which were all fully multiplexing, just like some foreign ones, all of them do not have downstream sensors, which make the engine ECU different. But then, their VINs mostly have RFN.

Every other thing is the same.

As for the ECU prices. You were wrongly informed as well. Brand new ECU for EW10 engine (which likely are designed to run engine without downstream sensors) cost about 80-100k, depending on where you buying from. But a used one cost much less than that, such as the 35k you mentioned.

Now because we have more foreign produced or imported 406 in Nigeria than the locally produced one by PAN, you will mostly find used ECUs and engine wiring harness of foreign 406 than PAN ones.

Now, if you care and handle a 406 well, you have nothing to worry about with prices of ECUs of PAN or foreign, because they were not made to fail unless you damage them by yourself. They last the lifespan of 406. People have covered about a million km mileages with their 406, with the same original engines, transmissions, Engine ECUs, etc. So, have no fear.

hello mr ikenna. i own a 2005 307 sw (pix attached). about 4weeks ago, i noticed that its radiator gets dry/empty over a short distance. after observation, i detected there was a leakage somewer arnd d engine. i then filled it at intervals wen i used it that weekend. i decided to take it to my mech after i complained to him. on the day it was being driven to the mech, it stopped on the way though car was driven by my brother. the mech came about a week after to check, he sed d 'kick' is bad and charged #7k, i gave him d money to change it. he called again that d car still wudnt start and suggested we tow it to his workshop in Ogudu GRA (i stay in Ikotun) which i had no choice but to agree. he called days later that the cylinder, valves (bent) wer havin issues n needs to b fixed after bn diagnosed. he sed he wud nid at least #50k to fix this problems and d broken plastic leaking water. am seriously confused as this was given to me as a gift and dont want to be frustrated by high cot of maintenance. i nid ur honest n candid advice. is der an engine called 'sudan' as my mech always mentioned? tnx

Sorry to hear about your Lion issues.

What mechanics call "Sudan" engine in Peugeots is actually EW10A engine, which you will find in some 407 as well. Its different from common EW10J4.


I think the first thing to do is to change that mechanic because he is either introducing more issues for the poor Lion or he doesnt know his left from right with Peugeot cars.

Since you stay in Lagos, I would suggest you contact GAZZUZ to come and find out what exactly is wrong with that Lion. Because failed starter would not lead to timing belt failure and valves damage.

Besides, what transmission? Auto or manual? When he said the starter was bad, did he mean the car wouldnt crank or it cranked slowly or it cranked but wouldnt start? For Peugeot auto trannies, a non crank issue could be caused by faulty multifunction switch, not starter.

In fact, contact GAZZUZ to physically inspect/diagnose the car. Only that the Lion is already in another man's workshop.

hello ikenna...i really need ur help.....my 406 started overheatin all of a sudden last week and on close inspection i discovered the fan wasnt working, i took it to my mechanic who said "the fan don burn" and dat i will nid a replacement.....i bought direct Belgium fan and after installation the fan still wont work!...we testd d fan outside d engine and even arted it to d battery n it was workin fine!...but wen its fixed into its place it wont work.....after testin d electrical connections from the battery to the fan d guy nw says its the fans regulator is d problem n needs changin.....im worried dat he myt just b guessin at d problem.....wat do u think?....thanks

its a D9....EW10 engine....single fan 6big blades..........i think it starts spinnin as d engine starts runnin.....

If that is the case, it cannot be diagnosed as factory, since they have bypassed the factory connections to the fan and connected it to Alternator to power the fan once engine starts running, which obviously led to the issue you are having. Peugeot cars hate abuse.

The connections to the fan is no longer factory and one can only tell the cause of the issue by troubleshooting it physically, not online, since abuse of electrical fans come in various ways. Notwithstanding, let your electrician check the Maxi fuses on bsm, the engine fuse box. The fuse that powers the fan is hidden under the bsm. That engine fuse box needs to be lifted up to access the fuse.

Let him also check the state of the fan relays and resistors in that fan housing, that is, if they have not butchered those ones out.

PAN LEADS RACE FOR FIRST NIGERIAN CAR




That Pan Nigeria Limited, the local assembler and promoter of the Peugeot brand of vehicles in the country, is under pressure is not in doubt. But the pressure is neither coming from scores of new car dealers dotting the nation’s landscape nor is it about getting a ready market for its high volume of vehicles coming from its recently rejuvenated Kaduna factory. It is all about producing a vehicle that is accepted by all and qualifies as a truly Nigerian car.

Pan is not alone in the race. There are other contenders. Since the introduction of a new automotive policy in September, 2013, at least 23 firms have shown interest in setting up vehicle assembly plants in Nigeria. Some have commenced operations and rolled out a number of vehicles from the local plants. Prominent among them are the Stallion Auto Group (assembling the Nissan brand of vehicles), Dana/Kia Motors of Nigeria, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Limited and the ANAMMCO-ABC Transport partnership producing Shamac trucks.

The decision to introduce the automotive policy, according to the government, is to encourage the establishment of automobile factories in Nigeria and speed up the revival of the steel industry as well as tyre manufacturing firms.

The idea of producing truly Nigerian cars has continued to agitate the minds industry stakeholders. The Director-General, National Automotive Council, Mr. Aminu Jalal, gave a hint about features that would guide the public in taking the decision.

With a zero tariff on completely knocked down vehicles imported by local assembly plants and about 70 per cent tariff imposed on imported fully-built cars (old and new), many automobile firms are encouraged to set up production firms in Nigeria.

According to Jalal, it is not enough to assemble a vehicle in Nigeria; it must have a reasonable percentage of local content. And it must be affordable and acceptable by most Nigerians.

And after many years of suspending vehicle assembling operation, Pan returned to vehicle production July last year with the inauguration of Peugeot 301 production at its Kaduna factory.

The resuscitation of the moribund vehicle production line was done along with the inauguration of a site for auto components’ cluster park.

Pan Nigeria said it was starting with the 301 saloon car on a semi-knocked down 2 and plans to graduate into the Completely Knocked Down model this year.

The firm also said its plant had been modified to simultaneously carry out the SKD11, SKD1 and CKD operations, adding that the plant had the capacity to churn out 250 vehicles daily.

Pan said the new 301 had been produced to adapt to the Nigerian environment in terms of road conditions, climate and fuel.

The Chairman, Pan Nigeria, Alhaji Munir Ja’afar, said, “Factors such as our road conditions, climate, geography, motoring attitudes and performance are highly considered in packaging the car with the sole aim of satisfying our esteemed customers.”

The Managing Director, Pan Nigeria, Ibrahim Boyi said the migration into the 301 CKD programme would offer greater opportunities for local content development, skills acquisition and technology transfer. The new Peugeot 301 has three variants with Allure as the top of the range. Is the company positioning the 301 to breast the tape in the first Nigerian car contest?

Formerly known as Peugeot Automobile Nigeria, the firm may have changed its name to Pan Nigeria to reflect its current transformation.

Under the old name, the firm made many of its products household names. Notably among them were 504, 404, 505, 406, 307 and 508. It has switched over to a new generation of vehicles in line with global competitiveness and has commenced the production of new generation vehicles such as 301, 3008 and 4008.

The firm said the new 3008 and 4008 which took its inspiration from the sport utility vehicle, also rose to the challenges of the future with technological equipment to enhance both safety and driving pleasure.

The company recently organised a nationwide test drive for some motoring journalists to feel its new generation vehicles.

The team took off from Lagos, driving on smooth and rough village roads across Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Kogi states. The journey continued through Abuja, the nation’s capital and finally ending on Monday in Kaduna, the home of Pan.

Boyi said the test drive was to give the media team a firsthand experience about the products and expose the auto writers to pan’s quality production processes.

He said that the objective of the test drive was to restate the values of Peugeot vehicles through the unbiased driving experience of motoring editors and other experts and to inform the public about the evolution of Peugeot vehicles.

According to him, Peugeot vehicles still maintain old attributes of durability, luxury and ruggedness, with new attributes of style and fuel efficiency to position the brand as one of the leading automobiles in sub Saharan Africa.

He also said the launch of a site for the automotive cluster pack and local production of Peugeot vehicles in Kaduna last year was to ensure that the automotive policy would not only be implemented but sustained.

I no dey for that one o! Anything conversion, count me out. Talking from experience.

But the truth remains. Peugeot provides room for conversion in every of their products, especially auto to manual transmission conversion. You will find holes on auto tranny peugeots where all manual tranny components can be installed without cutting open or welding anything. The same is applicable to RHD to LHD, especially 406, i think. But how good the conversion job is done is another matter entirely. If you are saying the conversion will be done before it enters Nigeria, it will make sence to me. But doing the work here? You are on your own! You had better look for a standard LHD 406, for peace of mind.

i own a 406 2001 conversion since 2012 infact it work perfectly witout any issues maybe I'm lucky buh i dnt hav issues wit the conversion tho.

You will need to find out your engine family or model number. The model of your 307 might have different engine with the hatch back the saloon succeeded, irrespectine of engine cubic capacity, fuel type and number of cylinders. When you have the engine number, use the number to find out the oil filter part number for your engine. It could be that you are using the wrong oil filter for that engine, am not sure. The engine model number and the oil filter part number of the car should be in the owners manual, which i believe you would have, since you bought it new. Its peugeot tradition to include such numbers in their owners manual.

For your A/C issue, I would check the cooling system sensors. A/Cs in Peugeot usually work with the cooling system, probably the CTS. They do have a safety switch that switches of the A/C when it senses that the temp of the engine is going beyond normal operating temp of the engine. The issue could also be the A/C thermostat or the Climate Control system ECU. You will need to scan the car to know what is the culprit, since more than one component, if failed, could give such symptom.

own a 206 gti 2001 model being havin the same AC cut off issues my AC mechanic said its the AC thermostat , I got a new thermostat buh the problem still persist.
Another issue wit the 206 is . The engine goes off and it take a hard start after several try to get it back on.

I have a 307 and its been having an issue. In the morning when you release the clutch for it to move, it drops fire so you need to rev a little for it to move,it drags its movement for like 3 to 4 mins after which it becomes perfect. But while in motion each time you increase the rev it drops before it picks/accelerate. Lately when the A/C is on after like 45mins it begins to stall but it wont trip off. Just that you cant rev it. When you try to rev it seems like there is blockage or suffocation. Once I turn off the A/C and allow it drag itself, it gets back to normal firing after like 10 mins. I complained to my mechanic @ Ladipo, he said its fuel pump. I changed the fuel pump but the issue is still on. Some said its catlytic converter, some said nozzles, some said air mass another said its to buy complete fuel casing and pump. I am so confused because its not showing any check light or fault on the dash board. Please can you advice me on what to do cos it seems alot of guess work is being done so am just managing like dat till I have a competent hand. Apart from that....its a sweet ride.

A scan with pp2000 will direct you in the right path.

Hello house,I have some few questions about 406 ew10 and its urgent. How much is total Quartz 7000? Also I hear some noise like sisisisi!!! when the engine is on and the mechanic said its release bearing how true is dat? And if its true and I change it, is it advisable to still use same gear box oil or I should change it? And what's the recommended gear box oil for 406 stick shift. What is the factory recommended battery 75ahr or 62ahr. can someone help check this vin? Vf38brfn291063355 thanks. Please Ikenna your assistance is needed.

An Your car is from uk so it's mean it's converted ... from rhd to lhd.

Is the noise is the same after you push the clutch pedal ?

Recommended battery is 60 Ah cos it's petrol engine.


And about the gearbox oil you need to use oil that has a Peugeot norm with is : PSA B71 2315 the oil grade is 75W80

You should top up georbox oil for example with this oil : SHELL SPIRAX S4 G 75W80 1L API GL-4 PSA: B71 2315

Hello house,
What could be the cause of a squealing sound from the brakes when the brake pedal is pushed down firmly ( the sound isn't there when the brake pedal is just softly pushed down). Its just embarrassing and I just recently changed the brake pads.

If the Gear oil is still the original one the lion came with and its still gauged, leave the oil as it is. It's meant to be used throughout the lions lifespan.

But if you want to change the fluid and still want the gear lever shifting to remain smooth, especially when box is gearbox is cold, then find and use only Total 75w80. It's available online. The gearbox takes about 1.8 litre (approximately 2 litres).

As for battery, 62 Ah will do the job, but I would recommend 68 or 75 Ah.

From Peugeot service manual , i've tranlate it from polish to english thats why some of them are poorly translated.

About battery it's petrol engine so to big battery is not a good option. 60 Ah is big enough.
