Nairaland funnily enough has a tribal section for goodness sakes, so creating sections is obviously not the issue. There's also a Muslim section specially dedicated to Muslims. So why don't we have sections that cater to Nigerian languages where only those languages are used for discussion? It'll be cool to create sections like these to mark Nairaland hitting 2 000 000 topics. cc Seun |

AceKidc4Sure we don't need it, but it's a small step in fostering diversity and promoting our Languages. It could even lead to stuff like people translating articles into their languages to share in their sections. cc lalasticlala |

They could be put in the culture section. Seriously, for someone like me struggling to learn my language from abroad they would help. uhmm..barcanista you seem well established in Nairaland. Can you suggest people you think will be willing to promote this idea? |

We're Nigerians, we're not igbos, yoruba nor hausa here. Don't create the seed of division here. |

Basildvalour, VickJames, I just mean sections for the languages and I hope the topic now reflects it. Not as a way to divide Nairalanders, but to promote the languages ourselves instead of waiting for twitter, or Dstv or Google to do so. There's literally no major way our languages are being used, and there won't be until we start using them. |

musing2:What about having efik, ibibio, nupe, berom, idoman igala, ogonÍ etc? My guy the proposal won't sellm remember, not every "Igboman" understand Igbo dialect same with others. Should we shut out these people? |

docsholz:But we can find ways to either weed it out or reduce it. People will hijack those sections for their own purpose. |

barcanista: At least It can start with those language groups that want it...and doesn't everyone learn standard Igbo in school? (I really do not know, I didn't study Igbo in school). Besides I'm sure the difference in dialects will not hinder understanding. |

It is called Nairaland. So that ur idea is not implementable... I would ve clamoured for Christian Section but Seun no go do am.... I don tire using ledafaze till I closed that account. If he creates Yoruba, ijebu will request, egba too, akoko too.... So drop am |

^^^If the Ijebu and Egba people want to come online to discuss in their language, if the Awori also want to come online too, and the Ekiti and Ijesha want to do the same, how is that not a benefit to Nairaland? Doesn't it mean more visitors? |

Basildvalour: Unfortunately I can't speak mine, and people like me will just keep growing, and growing, and growing because we really do not NEED to speak our languages . We don't need to because they're never considered relevant...and I think I just answered my question. |

Anywho, Seun think about it. It's really weird that a Nigerian forum does not use any of Nigeria's languages, yet global companies like Google and twitter do. Those companies are not stupid. |

OP I've been thinking along these lines too.there's nothing wrong in having a languages section in NL,either under the culture or politics area or even as a zone of its own.major sites offer services in other lingos, and NL being the largest Nigerian social site could start with these languages 1]Hausa 2]Igbo 3]Yoruba 4]Fulani 5]Bini 6]Ibibio/Efik 7]Tiv let's celebrate the diversity that's Nigeria! cc:Seun, OAM4J, Lalasticlala, Afam4eva |
