barcanista: I'm sure what she was questioning was the seriousness of the president passing the bill since it was his party that was majority. I mean if a president cannot pass a bill that he's serious about through an NASS that's full of his party members, then he's rather useless. 1 Like |

Obiagelli: The fence jumpers are not the president's men. It was a cost cutting measure and in the interest of the PDP to adopt GEJ as a sole candidate. The bill had been staring the reps in their face for long before Tambuwal announced his defection and house recess for more than 8 months! Yes, 8 months!!! 1 Like |

mrmetoo1:How does a president "pass bill"? Is he a legislator? How do you expect him to sign bill into law when the bill is yet to be passed by both Houses of the Parliament? How do you expect the PIB to be passed when delegation from a section of the country in the both Houses are kicking against some vital Items in the bill? How do you expect a bill to be passed when renegade PDP 7th Assembly members have been working for the opposition since 2011? Finally, how does Obiagelli expect Jonathan to sign the bill when it has not been passed by the NASS? Pls read her comment again.... Thank you! 6 Likes |

barcanista: Barcanista, I really don't like when you feign ignorance because I know you know better. Basically what you're saying is PDP is a fraudulent party filled with greedy self serving people, a party with no ideology. All I'm saying is, this PIB is for the good of the nation. If the president feels this way, how come his party members don't feel the same?? How come he can't sell his party members on something that's meant to help move our country forward. I mean if PDP members were for the bill and other parties opposed it then I get it but you trying to say well GEJ tried his best but his party members opposed him doesn't cut it for me. His job is to get his party members on his side, in fact he should have made sure he had them on his side before it went to the house. Where serious lobbying needed to happen would have been to get some members from other parties on board, that is if there was a need for them. My conclusion is even GEJ wasn't serious about passing it. It's one of those moves I believe was made so that they he can say later they did something like the trains. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

mrmetoo1: One of the problem e have in Nigeria is when we thing that the office of the president is the Alpha and Omega. It is only in Nigeria that we blame the president for the inefficiency of the legislators, the state government, the judiciary, and local government. The president can only lobby the legislators, he cannot force them.. don't tell me the legislators are children who don't know or understand the importance of PIB. By the way, the IOC also have powerful lobby group against the passage of PIB. The ball is in the courts of the legislators and they should be blamed 8 Likes 1 Share |

Mykevp2p: Dude it's politics, you scratch my back I scratch yours. He can't force them but his job is to use his power to work out deals with them. Politics is not child's play, I'm sure you know this. Understand what problem they have with the bill. Do a massive media campaign showing your support for the bill, reveal through proxies those that oppose the bill. Force them to come out and face Nigerians and answer questions about why they're not supporting the bill. Maybe we aren't just there yet I'm Nigeria but this is where we need to get to. We need till know these guys, their names and where they represent. Let them come out and tell us how passing the bill will affect where they represent negatively. Accountability is what we need and a leader can champion that. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Mykevp2p: That's exactly the issue here. Many people do not actually understand the workings of our democracy; and our media has somehow focused more attention on the Presidency, hence the belief the President should do ALL! 5 Likes 2 Shares |

barcanista: I actually wrote some of my points in my last post. If the president is passionate about the bill, he needs to make the legislators "popular", force them to come out and defend how the bill will affect their constituents negatively. We need to know those that are there for themselves. Now that you're in the opposition, I hope you take this on. If Buhari is in support of a bill and members of his party oppose it, please reveal them. Present APC to us as a party that can't come together to achieve something that'll be good for the country. We need to bring these guys out, they're too hidden for my liking. The truth is I believe if the president is truly serious about passing something especially a bill that's non self-serving, I think he'll be able to convince at least his party members. 1 Like |

dearpreye: That's my point, I think these legislators need individual attention. We need to know the numbers of YAYs and NAYs and those that voted, their party. Then the media needs to focus on them and know the reasons for their votes and how it affects their constituents and the country as a whole. |
