All we want is the implementation of the Confab report cos this our current military constitution is doing more damage than good to our democracy... it gave the executive arm so much power that they now abuse it.. 2 Likes 3 Shares |

The Military are not in charge yet see the way they are intimidating those that cross their parts. When they come into power the first thing is to suspend the chapter 4 of the nigeria constitution which is your right! 1 Like |

Rilwayne001: [quote author=sharks776 post=33017970]The Members of the National Assembly are TOO GREEDY! Imagine them Proposing a law to give them Full immunity and life time pension after just 4 years of work ( 6 months in the case of Patricia Ete) when thousands of aged people are roaming the street crying for their unpaid pensions after given their life time (better years) to the service of this country. Have you gotten some knowledge? Now who is the Mumu, the FG or you who don't even know what is happening and already taking sides? 1 Like |

eCollynzo: I don't believe he is fighting to please any one. He is still the president until may 29nth. Elections are over and the earlier we work for the development of our nation, the better for all of us rather than nurture old wounds. I believe it is a growth in Nigerian democracy. Most people will naturally expect GEJ's administration to leave stumbling blocks for the incoming administration but the earlier we realize that the western world are trying to pitch us against each other to submerge our growth, the better for us. 2 Likes |

Greedy men always thinking of themselves first, and how to perpetuate evil like former senators getting ministerial positions without screening. U see while I like Jona, he doesn't sign any how. If not our economy would have been worse, with the old plan of France, no wonder their nationals are part of Bokoharam. That man may be selfish and may have abused power as many who were there, but he doesn't perpetuate it. Immegine these men desiring him to sign that they can pass a bill into law without the consent of the President. That house is the seat of corruption. But wait, with all these section this, paragraph that, what will people like T A. do if they get there. U see why I want APGA to get back mandate from him. Let them follow it to later 2 Likes 1 Share |

zicoraads: The election changed everything, most of the NASS members now are going and the ones who retained their seats may not retain their positions, the president too is going so it is a legislature and Executive in outgoing mode with absolutely nothing to lose. However, if you study the amendments in details, you will see the hands of David Mark written all over it, it is a ploy to strip the presidency of its powers and hand it over to the Legislators whom we know are thieves, remember, the presidency has gone to opposition so they want to render him useless. What I don't understand is why Jonathan is fighting for Buhari? has a deal been made to evade prosecution? Is jonathan still nursing another presidential ambition? time will tell. 2 Likes |

soe:what do you mean by that? Is Buhari going to rule for life? If Buhari goes after the past rulers, when he steps down another president will pursue him too. Do you want to tell me that Buhari will not make mistakes during his first 4 years? Let's commend president Jonathan for this bold step he has taken again. |

The FG has a point, all of the provisions which require 80% majority vote which were included with less than the said four-fifth approval, will be rendered unconstitutional and ultimatelly struck down - but I am not sure that this is the time for that. If I were a betting person, I'd bet that the supreme court will not make a ruling on this and toss the case out. The courts have no business telling NASS how to do their jobs, besides, the Amendments have not yet been sent to the states for approval, so NASS still has time to revisit the amendments. As I told many people, including Mr. jpphilips, the President cannot veto amendments to the constitution, hence he decided to go to court to force NASS to remove certain provision early in the game. Shame on NASS for including these 419 provisions, and shame on GEJ for taking NASS to court. He could have simply expresssed his concerns and let NASS have a do over on the provisions in question. As it stands, The APC NASS, with President Buhari and the APC controlled states, will decide what provisions are amendeded. David Mark & GEJ, both rougues are wasting their time. There is more to this than meets the eyes and the real truth will come out soon enough. 1 Like |

Ozigbondu:tomorrow they say that Gej is a bad man NobleG1:The law makers are giving themselves pension. Imaging after squandering 25% Of our budget yearly. Gej refused to sign the bill. They still went on to pass it. Nigerians should rise up and the Labour unions, It is a pity, those benefitting from this directly or indirectly will not say anything. GEJ IS GOING, HE SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID TO COME OUT IN THE PUBLIC AND EXPLAIN TO THE MASSES WHAT THE LAWMAKERS HAVE DONE. |

Abuja – The House of Representatives on Wednesday in Abuja voted to effect 71 amendments to sections of the 1999 constitution. The lawmakers also backed the adoption of referendum for state creation. They, however, rejected the amendment of Section 9 to allow for a referendum in determining the fate of the National Conference recommendations. Among the 261 house members who participated in the process, 252 members voted in favour of the amendments, eight voted against and one abstained. A two-third vote (240 of the 360-members) is required to amend the constitution. The report will be forwarded to the 36 state Houses of Assembly for their concurrence. The 71 amendments approved by the lower house border on legislative immunity, local government autonomy, state creation, indigeneship and citizenship. Some others are independent candidacy in elections, budgetary process, life pension for National Assembly heads and role for traditional rulers. An alteration of Section 7 among others, stops revenue allocation from the Federation Account to local governments that are not democratically elected. They also approved the dissolution of local government administrations at the expiration of four years commencing from the date the members of councils were sworn in. While altering Section 59, the lawmakers also voted to bypass the president if he failed to sign a bill presented to him within 30 days. “Within seven days, the President of the Senate shall convene a joint sitting of the National Assembly to reconsider the bill. “And if passed by two-thirds majority of members of both Houses at such joint sitting, the Bill shall become law and the assent of the President shall not be required,” the conference report reads. In other constitution amendments, house members also approved independent candidacy in elections in Nigeria. A new amendment makes it mandatory for the president to address a joint meeting of the National Assembly once a year. The office of the Auditor-General of the Federation, Nigerian Police, Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, National Security Agencies have now been place on a firstline charge from Nigeria’s Consolidated Revenue Account. House members equally approved life pension for the President and Deputy President of theSenate as well as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. The life pension would be paid only if he/she was not impeached from office. An alteration of Section 241 which inserts a new subsection (2A) bars Nigerian courts or tribunals from staying any proceeding on account of an interlocutory appeal. House members also voted to include seven items to the concurrent legislative list, some of which are agriculture, railways and pensions. ARE YOU AWARE THAT THE MONEY THE LAWMAKERS WILL BE TAKING HOME IS YOUR MONEY. 25% OF OUR BUDGET IS ALREADY GIVEN TO THEM YEARLY, HENCE NIGERIA FINDS IT DIFFICULT TO DEVELOP IN TERMS OF CAPITAL EXPENDITURES, AND NOW THEY ARE GOING HOME WITH LIFE-PENSION PLAN and all you could come up with is that Gej is fighting for Buhari.
