Osun Govt May Stop Free Feeding Of School Children by oludashmi(f): 4:32am On Apr 24, 2015
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state, has set up a nine-member committee to review the free feeding of primary school pupils, free health programme for children and the elderly, in the state.

The committee is made up of permanent secretaries in the state and a level 17 officer, who is a director.

After the review exercise, parents may be asked to pay a token to support the government or it may be cancelled.

This new development may not be unconnected with the government’s plans to save some money for payment of salaries of civil servants and to carry out developmental projects in the state.

It is said that the state government has not been able to pay workers salaries in the past 6 months, a development it blames on dwindling allocation from the Federal Government.

It would be recalled that the Deputy Governor, Titi Laoye-Tomori, said the “school feeding meals cost government of the State of Osun N3.6bn annually.”

Nothing bad in scrapping the program if it's no longer sustainable.

It is a lofty program which was introduced based on certain conditions and if the new realities mean the program must be discontinued, so be it.

Nothing bad in scrapping the program What about the wastage?

Look dude, there's something called feasibility study. If Aregbe is not stupid or crazy, he should have done one.

Now the illiterate Buhari is dangling free money over our heads.
Does he really think it is feasible? He shouldn't fcking waste money meant for infrastructure on an unsustainable program.

APC is all fraud, filled with men that live in Disneyland.

Being educated doesn't equal to being exposed or informed. You're obviously educated but not informed.

Many progressive countries have social programs for the poorest of their citizens irrespective of the type of government they practice.

It is myopic to assume that Aregbe didn't do a feasibility study before embarking on the meal a day program. Feasibility studies do not always tell what will change in future and they mostly rely on present realities. How many programs have been discontinued in Nigeria as a result of new realities?

I don't like to do this but if you still call GMB an illiterate it shows the white matter in your skull is not what it should be.

I will be glad if you are from Osun because you deserve the kind of government that you get.
Aregbe did feasibility study on a program that collapsed in how many years
Was it done by an Osun educated individual like you? I wouldn't be surprised! Half baked education is worse than no education.

As for welfare, do we have social insurance numbers? What data do we have or what foundation do we have to start any form of welfare program?
You can't just wake up and say you would give N20,000 to 25 million Nigerians. Where did he get the figures from?

I wonder why you will introduce a program that you know you can't sustain, the money spent on the unsustainable social welfare would have been spent on something tangible in osun...

The people of osun never begged for the welfare package in the first place, scrapping the program will be tantamount to deceit, since he campaigned with the so called welfare package...

I hope Buhari's administration learn from this...

For what is wot, how many states in your red-soil ridden state that collects full and large allocations offers any free benefits for it's citizens?

All we knw is for them to loot u dry without doing a thank and at the time of elections, gather all of you, in conjunction with your parents, featuring your grandmas and reserving your children as substitutes and give u placards and N500 each to sing there praises.

This is not unconnected with why ur people give birth to many children. Do the math:

What do they know? Someone said GEJ "reduced" their allocation. That is one funny statement. Their allocation "naturally" fell due to the fall in the oil price. It affected other States and even the FG's earning. They are yet to embrace reality.... Clueless people

Meanwhile, the money being used to build the Firstlady's mission house by PEJ can sustain an initiative like this for over 2yrs.

The money used to build a banquet hall in Aso rock will see out a Govs 4year tenure.

The N10 Billion Allison Madueke used to fly private jets for a year can extend the programme to two states.

Just a tip of the iceberg the collosal embezzlement that went on during GEJ's administration.

Not to mention the money spent by PDP on the just concluded elections.

I thought the economy of Osun state is bigger than that of the BRIC countries combine.

Aragbashola that is making $20B per hour in Osun IGR last year but Rivers money was used to pay their salaries.

My brother, APC is all about confusion. They lack these basic understanding and always refuse to learn from realities. Osun is so broke and highly indebted that BANKS have refused to give them more loan angry. Civil servants are on a 8moth streak without pay... They are just deceiving themselves...

If a governor of a state cannot forecast the effect of oil price drop on an economy such as osun before embarking on such programs, then to be frank, osun is doomed.
Governance requires creativity and innovation above every other human endeavor.

Yes they need to reduce costs and if so you should advise political office holders to be paid on minimum wage scale and let them drastically reduce cost of governance. If not so, you're the real oponu!

Stop replying him and most of his APC colleagues. From his/their contributions on the forum, you can deduce his/their lack of real life working experience outside classroom environment and google search?

All he knows are paper knowledge without technical details and applicability.

Just like the Chairman, House Committee on Finance, Abdulmumin Jibrin, who on December 18, 2013 hired Enwegbara for N115 million to produce 50 questions on the “State of the Economy,” which the House of Representatives would like to pose to the Minister of Finance notwithstanding a top-class academic credentials Abdulmumin parades.
