Nigeria should work well to take their position at no1. They are simply unadvanced. No intelligence, no Blue water navy (i guess that's what its called). Weak airforce and air defence, average army. No military R&D & Industry. Soldiers not very skilled for modern combat, corruption and mismanagement of miltary budget. If we improve on all the aforementioned areas and more, not even the great ol USA wil b able to invade. As the african power, our navy needs an aircraft carrier and maybe some nukes (or not).

Population of Nigeria isn't enough to make her number one on the continent militarily.

Population without sophisticated weapons can't win a war. Egypt is better than Nigeria without sentiment.

Nigeria should be no 7 a country of 170 million with one defence academy in kaduna for politric, ethiopia is landlock but hav better fire power and air defence than our giant of africa. South africa with population of 60 million is better equip plus 2 submarines than giant of africa. Algeria with national oil company equivelent to our own nnpc is making waves in land, air, and sea with 6 submarines we are giant of africa. Egypt is no go area for naija. One nigeria is a joke giant of africa my foot dwarf of africa

As a matter of urgency we need to recapitalize our military.
It's laughable that a country of Nigeria's size has no submarines and 4.5 generation fighters when egypt and southafrica has.
We need to scale up defence budgets to $10 billion for the next 10 years with $8billion going into upgrading military capability and R&D.
We should be able to project power across the continent with decisiveness.
Let's hope the president elect curb the corruption in that sector and bring the military back to its enviable heights.

Just because you wish it to be, does not make it so. Did you read how much is pumped into Egypts military on an annual basis? If it were based on my ratings, Nigeria would be last. How you rate the military is in part based on it's relationship with the citizenry. The military should be seen as servants to the people, not harrassers or oppressors.

A lot of us commenting here should realise that matter of military force, recruitment and procurement are not as it's seen in so many movies which are now been used as a yard stick.

The Nigeria military rated 1st or 200th shouldn't be the issue here.

The topic rather should be the capability of the military to defend the territorial integrity of the country.

Libya, despite having one of the biggest military force and terrific personnel training is no longer a country since the military couldn't hold ground.

Egypt is a country that is always at war!, a nation always at persistent threat of hostile Israel.
Expectedly the country has a large and active military force.

So, who's Nigeria fighting, apart from a few terrorist elements and militants, the Nigeria military has not seen action on Nigerian soil for over 40years.

Who are we fighting ?, who's the enemy ?. Besides, no one keeps a large military in peace time.

Regards the list, the Nigeria Mil. has received a massive hardware upgrade.
