Radoillo: Nice attempt, he is almost right. My main resentment against his classification, is his use of town names to represent names of dialect. I mean, how can you tell a proud Ogidi man that he speaks Abatete dialect? Why can't it be in reverse, I mean the Abatete speaking Ogidi dialect? He could have done better, by looking for things those communities that speak same/ similar forms of the Igbo language known as Igbo dialects have in common to use to name the dialect. 1 Like |

pazienza: I also thought about that. It also seems to me that this his Abatete Dialect is too broad. Ifite-Ukpo and Ogidi (to me) sound distinct enough to be considered different dialects. The differences between them do not appear to be minor and negligible. 1 Like |

Radoillo: Not really by much. Dunukofia dialect isn't that far from Idemili's own. My cousins are from the part of Ogidi( Uru Ogidi), that shares boundary with Dunukofia towns of Umunnachi and Umudioka, and I had spent one week in Ukpo before. Their dialect is not far off from the Idemili dialect, atleast that's what I personally think. |

Kalvan3005: Ha the coward went an recreated his second cowardly, ID. What happened to the original? Before twisting that your cowardly yoloba mouth to lie about having one ID, Maybe you should remember how you used your Kalvan ID to answer an attack on your Van snicker ID completely forgetting you forgot to log into as Van snicker before addressing new20. That conversation is still around you know. That's the beauty of the internet, it does not erase. LOL. Shouldn't you be talking to yourself with your multiple IDs like some schizophrenic patient like you usually do? Why you even quoting me? Dude go speak to yourself like always. 7 Likes |

pazienza: Umu-Dunukofia communities have evolved over time to adopt some of the speech patterns of their neighbors. Ukpo-akpu being the eldest of Dunu Okofia's offsprings has a dialect close to that of Abagana. Ifite Ukpo the second son speaks so much like Awkuzu and Umunya...with so much use of the letter V in place of F in their pronounciations...more of Omambala dialect. The third and fourth sons, Nnachi and Dioka, have assimilated so much speech patterns of their immediate neighbors, Ogidi, Eziowelle etc. Then the last born of Dunu Okofia - Ukwulu- speaks in much the same way as Ifite Ukpo... More of Omambala. However, you can hardly identify these differences when they're gathered. On the other hand, Ndi Abba speaks in the same manner as Ifite Ukpo their "host". and not Abatete. 1 Like |

somegirl1: The Dutch language and Afrikaans are similar but not the same. The Dutch cannot claim Afrikaner as the same people even as the Dutch are the ancestors of the Afrikaner. The flemish arent French or Dutch..They are a distinct people now. That said, there are Obviously some similarities and cultural exchanges between the Igbo and Ikwerre largely due to proximity, and/or ancestry...But now, language differences are many..It is practically impossible for Igbos to understand the dialects of most clans within Ikwerreland...Even if the heard snippets, we cared less. Now, If a people collectively decided to dissociate themselves from Igbos, to the extent of having same recognised in the constitution, it is on the Igbos to accept that decision in good faith. Since the 70's, we have ensured that we arent fated together with the Igbos..we will pursue our collective destiny as Ikwerre people....The Igbos shouldn't be seen as dragging the issue unnecessarily. |

HopeAtHand: Mvruka. Don't try to lie now. We all know better. Look, no matter how hard you think you should fight it, there is no changing the fact that okwu Ikwerre is easily grouped along with other Igbo speech forms. Self-determination aside, this is the simple, blatant truth. I ka la i bu nye amamwhne. Then you should know that a discussion of self-determination and ethno-linguistic classification are not one and the same. Fight your fight for self-determination, but don't make yourself out to look unnecessarily stubborn and dense by confusing self-determination with ethno-linguistic classification. And don't be petty, nula nwa. Kaa mbu ke mbu l'ezi. 3 Likes |
