greatkamala:The reason we always advocate for scanning first is for precise diagnosis and accurate replacement of faulty parts which is a more professional way of resolving auto issue and thus saves the client more money at the end of the day .this is opposed to the old tradition style of artisan kazeem who belive in better judgement of using his senses eg feeling and sound to diagnosis problems and throwing of spare part at problems so as to resolve issues.this kazzeem approach will cause u to spend more money and the issue will still persist . Cars nowadays are growing more advanced and sophisticated with increasing number of control modules ,sensors and actuators and the only way to catch with this modern trend is to invest in more training and state of the art diagnostic scan tool. 1 Like |

charly24:Did u ensure that it was the same cat converter dt was replaced? Cos if u replace with the same working cat and the check engine erased ,the mil will be gone for good .Anything short of dt will gve ur engine erratic behaviour. But i thought i warn u ealier of the implication of throwing part at problems without scanning , but still u prefer the kazeem style . |
Re: Stolen Catalyst by charly24: 10:57pm On Apr 25, 2015 |
Yes u did but check it was just nets DAT was in there notin like cat at all so pls wot do u til is wrong |
Re: Stolen Catalyst by honmusa(m): 11:05pm On Apr 25, 2015 |
charly24:What is wrong is that u have replaced with wrong cat or bad cat . First scan your vehicle to confirm what was wrong and then go and buy the right working cat required . |
Re: Stolen Catalyst by charly24: 11:30pm On Apr 25, 2015 |
D cat was very clean n neat and d guy is my friend also, but he also told me its for Camry cos I asked if its d recommended one n he said yes and I remember asking him if its still OK? He said yes DAT bad cat are rough n always look dirty n tattered |

charly24: Did you buy half an exhaust? Or you just cut and welded somthing that looked similar? If you did cut and join Get ready to vists the panelbeater consistently each time you hit the base of your car. |

honmusa: Scanning can not necessarily tell if a cat is missing. The only true test is a visual look. There are test pipes with o2 defeaters that can trick the ECU into thinking a cat and sensor exists. You guys need to stop thinking that scanning is the solution for every issue. |
Re: Stolen Catalyst by Nobody: 7:17pm On Apr 26, 2015 |
honmusa: Unless the CEL is on then scanning a car is not totally professional. A true professional mechanic uses the scan as part of his toolbox. |
Re: Stolen Catalyst by honmusa(m): 11:20am On Apr 27, 2015 |
CityNG:A true professional scans to retrieve live data for proper analysis not chasing after dtcs and mil. Dtcs and mil can even lead professional astray at times and not all problem illuminate the mil and dtcs but if u know your onion well in auto diagnotics, streaming live data with proper analytical skill can solve a complex problems in a jiffy.

honmusa: None of this will tell OP if he has a missing cat. I can sense your excitement with live stream, something I've been using since 2000 or so but its not the end of it all. Reliance on technology alone doesn't cut it, also having access to live data doesn't turn an average wrenched into a professional mechanic. |
Re: Stolen Catalyst by honmusa(m): 4:08pm On Apr 27, 2015 |
CityNG:That u have been using it since donkey years doesn't means u know how to use it correctly even from ur statement I can infer that ur from level of reasoning ur type (kazeem) can only work on old Toyotas ,hondas Checking for bad cat is very simple on ur live data ,just compare the behaviour of your post cat with the present cat u can know if u have a bad cat even without any physical examination.what u cannot comprehend u ask clarification . |
Re: Stolen Catalyst by Nobody: 4:25pm On Apr 27, 2015 |
honmusa: Oh I know how to use it alright. I know it will be preferable of you to take your normal caustic position. There's nothing I need to learn from an uneducated alleged " shade tree professional" like you. You dolts need to stop screaming scan scan scan at each opportunity. PS: I don't work on old Hondas, only Toyotas You still can't tell if you have a missing cat by looking at a stream. I understand your level of knowledge though, JJC. |
Re: Stolen Catalyst by Nobody: 4:42pm On Apr 27, 2015 |
For those not afraid of learning. You can remove your catalytic converter for whatever reasons (this is against federal law in the USA buy the way). In order to not turn the CEL on you can install any one or combination of the pictured items below. If you're a lazy mechanic or an uneducated one with a new shiny china scanner then you'll never know that you're missing a cat converter unless you go under the car. A scanner is good to read codes and then interpreting those codes. It is not the ONLY and ALL solution for all automotive symptoms.
