Are people so unknowledgeable? There are operations that require only local anaesthesia. This means the patient will still be awake while it's going on. Why do people find this so hard to believe?? Just thank God you were not in that position.

1.I have been present in a MAJOR teaching hospital in this country where operations were conducted by the light of a rechargeable lantern.

2.If the patient had an epidural/spinal anesthesia....he could have held the torch for the doctor in the way he described.

it's possible, all you need is a pain killer, one of my uncles had an operation while awake. I dunno why cos I'm not a medical person, but the thing wasn't making him sleep as its suppose to do.

Just this evening, my landlord's son was wheeled out of the theatre and he narrated his experience:

While the operation was halfway in one of the famous private hospitals in Lagos, the generator developed fault at almost 8.30pm. A light that was part of the stretcher (or the theatre bed) probably rechargeable, switched on automatically. As the operation progressed, almost at the concluding point, the light also went dead. Then a big torch light was handed to one of the aids who struggled to get a vantage point without much success.

The light was then handed to him (patient) to hold on his chest while he lay still.

The sweat running from the chief surgeon's body was almost falling into the place being operated upon. He was wheeled out at exactly 9.30.

He told me not to mention the type of operation for some reasons.

That doctors' workplace is well equipped......delivery with headlamps.... you say. Normally, it is your torchlight or phone light inserted on your hair net, mouth, between the chin and chest....... at the same time praying that it didn't fall into whatever ......ewhew. That is why my phone is the first instrument to be sterilised after every procedure at night.

Possible but I strongly doubt d veracity. Surgeons often need proper lighting and I don't know how a touch light will do that. Sounds like a minor surgery involving local so just perhaps. I wouldn't call it unethical. Coming from what sounds like an expensive private practice I personally no go gree. Unless na Awojobi Clinic then it's allowed
