Jonathan has taken the first step in opening the doors to Private investment (in the power sector); forget the seeming shoddy approach to this. Rather than get Buhari to reverse the process in its entirety, i'd subscribe to Buhari letting go completely of any government involvement in power; other than providing a workable climate for the investors to operate (tax relief, duty rebates, Right of Way, secured/gteed investment plans etc) and play a robust regulatory role. The power sector should further be decentralised, to allow small communities who can pay for their power own their own power stations - or Co-operate with larger sized communities to grow their power potentials; as against our current plan of ALL MUST GROW AT THE SAME RATE, and ONLY THE FG CAN RUN POWER God bless Nigeria |

princesslucy83:Maybe you are enjoying constant power supply in your area. Come to Satellite Town in Ojo, Lagos and you will understand the real meaning of darkness. Since the power sector was privatized, we have never had more than 30mins power supply here except on Sundays when we do get up to 2hrs despite crazy bills we are paying. Businesses are closing down on average daily basis. Infact, I am 100% in support of the reversal. It is only competition that makes privatization to achieve its expected results as witnessed in the telecom sector. However, what we have now is pure monopoly. A situation where a particular DISCO is in charge of an area without competition has also defeated the primary aim of the privatization exercise. 3 Likes |

Alphaoscar:live is reciprocal. Look at Buhari today, even Okro tree is stronger than him. His atrocities are back to him. That is nature for us all. This man tighed two women to a stake and ordered that they should be shot and there were truely killed. No wonder the avoc he comitted has also turned him to the only elected vegetable president. |

agabaI23: Abacha granted the license but when did the companies start operation? Who made sure they delivered their mandate? Who slammed them fines and strictly monitored them for compliance? Who expanded and made sure they didn't maintain a monopoly? That's what I call leadership. Coming to your question, the privatization exercise was simply a sham. These power companies were not properly accessed, some of them do not have the financial capacity, if not for The banking regulators who Issued instructions to banks not to grant them excessive loans, they could've possibly plunged our banks to another crisis because that was their intention, they claimed they had investing partners but on a closer look, these claims were not verified before they were granted licenses, they don't even have serious service strategy. MTN recharge cards are sold on the streets through a distribution and retail network, I expect that in the electricity distribution too which would create lots of employment... so many so many issues, just a shabbily implemented project 1 Like |

To some extend I suggest GMB shuld continue with d privatization of PHCN unless he finds to process lack integrity. Govt cannot afford to do everything for its citizens, there shuld be limitations and maybe subsides not total ownership by govt. |

anonimi: Are u better off now in terms of electricity supply. Lets not always criticize blindly. What we are talking about here is end result of the privatization exercise. The man is on point. The whole exercise is a sham and grossly lopsided. |

omenka: I don't wanna believe you're a robot that supports everything APC spews.. Reversing the privatization will take Nigeria back by 5 years. Not to talk of the financial burden it will place on the "nearly empty" federal treasury. The only Option the FG has if it wants to reverse the privatization is to buy it back at a price much more than what the companies paid for their disco.. And doing that will certainly scare other investors from participating in the next bid and erode investors confidence. Because one thing investors hate is uncertainty.. And then, there's another point to consider, What makes you think the next bids will be better than the first? These people complaining are merely doing so because they missed out and believe that now they are close to the government, they stand a better chance of buying one of the discos and gencos |

agabaI23: You didn't read through, the first paragraph was for OBJ while the second was for GEJ. The difference between both privatization processes was, one was successfully and strictly implemented, the other was shabbily and incompetently implemented |

2rutalk1: Do you think that improving electricty generation and distribution na matter of go buy super-sized generators and there is light If that is the case why is Lagos state not having 24/7 electricity after 16 years of APC rule and 15 years after Enron barge scam by the JagbaJantis of Bourdillon plus many "IPPs" of his smart crook of a boy boy governor? What the North wants is for all resources and assets of the nation to be handled by the centre (Government). Regardless of whether the expertise is available or not. In developed nations such as Sweden, Norway, Russia, etc. All these resources and assets are privatized and managed by the private companies. Atiku, we should not forget owned and had stakes in PHCN hence he so dearly seeks the reversal... What a shame... I saw this coming... Its like we are rewinding the time to take us back to the '80s... Nations look for opportunities to bring about change by forging ahead and being futuristic in their approach, but for these so called politicians, they are looking at how to enrich themselves and take us back to the years before social media children were born...! I see a big problem here... What can we to salvage our dear country? 1 Like 1 Share |

watchingin3D: People have every right to criticize the outgoing president, they voted him in massively in 2011 but he woefully performed, tell me why they won't be mad at him. As for Buhari, if you start criticising him now, that's pure hate because he hasn't even been sworn in talk less of spending 1 year in office. Even if you benefitted from GEJ's corrupt empire or his small empowerment programmes, at least you should appreciate the fact that most Nigerians didn't and they had no reason giving him a second chance when he was operating an untrollable and wasteful government |

[quote author=socialmediaman post=33198752] In 6 years as president, Nigerians expect improvement, not beating around the same problem. How did Gej spent 6years as president? 2010-2015 is that 6yrs in ur local villa? U need to go back to primary sch....rubbish. |

2rutalk1: Were you enjoying Adequate power 4 years ago? For God's sake, This Companies took control of their discos and Gencos less than 2 years ago.. And you expect them to wave a magic wand and give you constant electricity? That's the problem with Nigeria.. We want everything sharp sharp.. Most of these companies just finished consolidating their controls over their various assets and are in the process of updating their customers database and planning for a better distribution protocol.. All of which are on hold right now due to the uncertainty and rumours that the incoming government will buy back the Discos and Gencos |

sweetguy26:You got it wrong. Most our problems predates Obasanjo's coming in 1999. Nigeria was already rotten before he came. He tried his best and even left some good legacies including debt relief, large foreign reserve, huge excess crude account, started revitalization of railways which GEJ continued, he started the power reforms, established anti-corruption agencies, turned the FCT into a model capital city, gave Nigerians some of the most humble and honest leaders in the person of Yar' Adua and Jonathan. If not for the third term agenda, Obasanjo put Nigeria in the right path until....... |

AdamsBashforth:Not just that alone, also reverse the deregulation of the telecommunications sector by seizing the licences of MTN, Airtel etc and selling them to Jagbabantis and co, so that we can confirm that we have officially made a 180 degrees back to the stone age. |

Yes!!!! GMB should reverse it! They sold it to themselves without any inkling of how to run it! Reverse it and let the companies that can run it bid for it. Oshisco!!! |
