I don't understand why this noise about Buhari Barring AIT crew from his residence.
Buhari is President-elect...There is no office such as President-elect and therefore he is still entitled to how he runs his privacy.
After swearing-in....I want to believe he will arrange himself better as he will be answerable to all Nigerians thereby doing things according to protocol and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

ait should even be grateful that buhari only barred them from covering his events with all the hate campaign they embarked against him before the election.

If buhari was a bad person,AIT by now will be shut down.. Freedom of press doesn't translate to throwing journalism ethics to the dogs.

In other words AIT should be grateful Nigeria is not ruled by a tyrant.

buhari can go to court if he feels insulted..he cannot take laws into his hand as if we are in military era..
u have to get that into ur head too
he has rights to his privacy so he doesn't need to go to any court before he tells AIT that he doesn't want them around him. He can only go to court when AIT trample his rights to his private life.

What is wrong in GMB barring an unprofessional media house from his private space?

For goodness sake, it is his private space till May 29.

Wonders shall never end!! In the wake of the NNPC report, there is a soul that feels GEJ is worthy to be his president. The case of that soul is that of the biblical "lost soul"

Simple.

What is wrong in it is that he is now a democratically elected president. He has to learn to live with the cardinal anchor of democracy - press freedom. If he feels he is wronged he should seek redress in the court, sue AIT for libel and makes enormous amount of cash. He is not allowed to live the dictatorial life anymore. A lot is at stake if that action is justified and allowed to stand. Two wrongs they say don't make a right; you don't right a wrong with another wrong.

You realise that by taking up residence in Defence House he is giving up his privileges as a private citizen? He is now in the public's focus.

This is democracy, we won't allow Buhari to bully and remove our press freedom having tasted it under GEJ.

Even Tinubu owned newspapers were allowed to print what they wanted, GEJ never banned The Nation or its sister publication saharareporters.

Mtchewww..... Was it not under GEJ's administration that Judges and lawyers were being beaten up inside the court? I know this will not be wronged cos it is done in a PDP controlled state.

Really?

Doesn't GMB have the right to determine who he wants in his private space either?
He doesn't hv a private space again,as an elected presidnt every of his activities are being monitored.

It is called President-elect. There cannot be two sitting presidents. Therefore, one is serving us or lording it over us now, while the other is in waiting. By this, one is a public servant and while the other is still technically an ordinary citizen.

He is therefore entitled to his privacy and space till May 29.

I too dey like this Olisa Metuh. His write ups are very matured, precise and less of abussive, indesciple acts as in the case with Lai Mohammed. While Methu displays and encourges all virtue of democracy, Lai on the other hand, promotes tribal, religious hatred among Nigerians. I will not fail to thank Metuh and his likes and advise to shun the high degree of propaganda and hate types of Mohammed of apc.

no sane president-elect anywhere in the world will tolerate what ait did before the election. Ait went as far as mocking the deceased daughter of buhari. Buhari was even too kind to barr them, he should have taken ait's _ass to court and sue them for billions of naira for defamation, libel, slander, falsehood plus character assassination. And I will see how ait will win the case

Obama and Goodluck have suffered similar treatment (if not worse) in the hands of the press, they didn't resort to barring or stifling of press freedom.

This is only the beginning, Buhari should brace for more media attacks (not that I condone them) it comes with the territory.

Do you know the meaning of barring someone from an event?

It does not stop the person from covering 1001 other events.

So, eschew the Job loss theory.

Yes! You can't eat your cake and stil have it and I think the president elect position is diplomatic enough.. Afterall the honourable way of pls don't cover my activities is better than shutting or proscribing the TV outfit.. A media outfit because of allegiance to certain administration put the image of other into disrepute.. A yoruba proverb say if twenty events go on , Thirty will return and that's the fate befallen AIT now. The other outfit that think their own Man will be at the helm of affairs come may29 and that will be an avenue to carry unsubstantiated news to destroy opposition should take a cue from AIT at the moment.. NTA should thank their star being an outfit supported by Govt otherwise they deserve to be side by side of AIT.. Nonetheless, no one should be cut unaware if in the end NTA is subordinate to Channels, TVC as far as FG is concern in information discharged.

Press statement from the PDP on AIT ban, which the APC has since lifted..
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as unacceptable the Monday’s directive by the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to bar a television house, the AIT, from covering his activities, saying the suppression of the media under any guise portends danger for the nation’s democracy.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Tuesday said that after carefully studying the defence posited by General Buhari’s campaign spokesperson as well as the smokescreen statement by the APC to cover and mitigate his anti-media posture, the PDP and indeed all lovers of democracy are persuaded that the action was not only unjustifiable, but also unconstitutional and completely against the spirit of liberty and the rule of law in a democracy.

He said “the PDP as a party that have nurtured the nation’s democracy in the past 16 years cannot afford to fold its hands and watch the constitutional rights, media freedom and personal liberty of Nigerians, the basic tenets of democracy being demolished.

“We ask, is this a beginning of the feared erosion of the freedom and personal liberty the media and Nigerian citizens have been enjoying in the last 16 years under the PDP led-administration? Has our dear nation finally fallen into the clutches of totalitarianism and impunity where government actions will based on egocentric decisions and impulses of individuals rather than the rule of law?

“While we assure the President-elect of our resolve to run a mature and responsible opposition based on issues, we are disturbed by this emerging development and reassure the Nigerian people that we will continue to stand with them on issues of democracy and freedom at all times.

“Perhaps, we need to remind General Buhari that part of the challenge of his new position, even as President-elect is that he has lost his private life which is now subject to public scrutiny and media interrogation, as required of the custodian of the mandate of the Nigerian people.

“The PDP is not oblivious of the background of the President-elect especially as it relates to the freedom of the media, but we had thought that having declared to be a converted democrat, he would make himself amenable to the basic principles of democracy by following the due process of the law on any circumstance.

“General Buhari may also wish to be reminded that the Nigerian constitution upon which provisions he emerged President-elect, also gave the media powers to cover activities of public office holders while at the same time providing legal avenues for redress in the event of any violation. If the right of the President-elect was in anyway violated by the AIT or any media house for that matter, he is expected to act within the law and seek redress in the courts otherwise one would have no option than to conclude that he is out for personal vendetta.

“The APC and the President-elect may have one or two lessons to pick from President Goodluck Jonathan, who though the most maligned and abused President in the history of our nation, even by the APC, allowed his actions to be sufficiently guided by humility, tolerance and the rule of law”, the PDP said.

The party called on Nigerians not to despair but remain steadfast and unite in resisting any anti-democratic tendencies intended to instill fear in them and set the stage for a dictatorial order and the erosion of their personal freedom and liberty as citizens, which they have been enjoying in the last 16 years under the PDP.

Signed:
Olisa Metuh

when GEJ locked up the Editors of Leadership newspaper in a dungeon for days in 2012, what did PDP say?

PLEASE....tell PDP to cry me a river.

The more PDP continues to condemn "APC's action" even after APC has already condemned the action, the more PDP goes into oblivion.

Same thing happened with the Oba Akiolu statement...APC was faster....

PDP will always lag behind...like my dear Faka Jonathan said,...we are now in digital..we don't want analogue.
