Ondo State University Of Medical Sciences Receives NUC Recognition The National University Commission on Wednesday in Abuja presented a letter of recognition to the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences. The NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Julius Okojie, presented the letter through Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, who paid him a visit in his office. Okojie congratulated the governor for establishing the institution recognised as the 40th state university and the 139th university in Nigeria. "I wish to congratulate the Government of Ondo State for this establishment of Ondo State University of Medical Sciences. "With effect from the 22nd of April, 2015, the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences has been recognised by the National Universities Commission as the 40th state university and 139th university in Nigeria. "It is however, advised to invite NUC to assess the resources and facilities before the enrolment of students into the medical programmes," Okojie said. He warned that institutions that failed to meet the required criteria had been denied accreditation and their students sent to other institutions or graduate without accreditation. Okojie said that since the inception of state universities 1979, the commission sets standards to ensure quality educational development in the country. He stressed that any university that defaults would be stopped from admitting students, to avoid the production of poor quality graduates both in public and private schools. In his remarks, Mimiko thanked the commission for recognising the university, saying that it was established to be dedicated entirely to medical service delivery and research. Also read: Polytechnic cancels award of pass ND certificate He said that the institution had already been accredited by the West African College of Surgeons for postgraduate training, adding that the goal of the institution was to meet global records. "Our goal is not to produce one of the best Nigerian universities but we want a university of global record and we are getting to that. "We were driven by the passion for excellence in medical services in Nigeria and we taught that we needed a specialised university dedicated entirely to training for service delivery and research. "We also want an institution that will be a medical tourism destination where we can give first class quality service to every Nigerian and beyond," Mimiko said. He added that education was a major priority for the state government, adding that adequate funding would be provided for the running of the institution. Commenting on the mysterious ailment killed no fewer than 20 people in Irele community in the state, Mimiko said the cause of the deaths was neither an infectious nor contagious disease as proven by epidemiological test results. "It is not an epidemic outbreak; what we suspect, based on epidemiological finding which is yet to be confirmed by toxicological test, is that this is likely to be death caused by methanol. "Based on the fact and information at hand, we have started sensitising our people, especially those who indulge in local brew that there is perhaps some local brew in circulation in the community that is actually methanol. "But in the next few days, we will get our hands squarely on it, there are no new deaths recorded and we are getting on top of it.'' - NAN www.news24.com/nigeria/National/News/Ondo- State-University-of-Medical-Sciences-receives-NUC- recognition-20150423 For more update on admission process and recruitment you can as well join the school facebook page here: https://m./338338009686881?refid=8&_ft_=qid.6142770074918698333%3Amf_story_key.1967470517591776976&__tn__=C |
