That is the right way to spell it - Ibo and not Igbo. Chinua Achebe also made the correction in his epic bookseller - Things fall apart. I wonder how the G was smuggled in.

Actually the Igbo alphabet is not the same as the English alphabet or the Yoruba alphabet. They are different systems of orthography and so depending on which language you are using Igbo means different things

They dropped the 'Ibo' appellation and re-christened themselves as 'Igbos' cheesy shortly after the civil war, to sort of 're-invent' themselves and hopefully wipe away the reproach they suffered as a result of their defeat. But these same people are quick to accuse other igboid groups like the Ikwerres and Agbors of betrayal for also taking steps to re-invent themselves for similar reasons. Awon hypocrites gbogbo. cheesy grin

Ibo is a word in the English dictionary as a proper noun just like Chinese. So if you are writing in English Ibo is perfectly correct

Obsession with everything Igbo even their name .

My name is VintageCocktail. I introduced myself as such but because it is difficult for you and probably too long you had to call, write and refer to me as Vintage, I didn't bother one bit. But now I think you should call me my full name Vintagecocktail .......you're telling me it must be Vintage with quotations from different quarters of how it has been Vintage all along.

No. it is pronounced - Eebo and not Eegbo. I always make conscious effort to write it correctly and when asked I explain. Ibo is the correct spelling and not Igbo.

Well closest sound in Yoruba would be ee gbo which means "bush" or "cannabis" . I suppose Yee bo is the best compromise

Imagine saying "awon omo igbo. Those bush people" So ee bo it is
