I remember the Majek Fashek's hit track against the apartheid regime in the late 80's to early 90's. It's funny how all these events finally played out. Nigeria should learn to stop playing any big brother role to any African nation. Let's spend our resources to develop our country. If our neighbours like, let them die of hunger;that's their fucking business.

How can I ever forget it?

Even Ghana?

Maybe you are ignorant so you show no respect.

Ghana was the Mecca of the liberation struggles of Africa, including Nigeria.
Maybe you have to go learn some history.

Ghana was at the forefront of Africa's liberation struggles , giving out money and training hundreds of Africans for the purpose.

Show some respect.
thank you. While I feel Nigeria deserves to be included for its immense support. One thing we should learn from this is humility... Don't go and sit at the high table until you are called.

Before folks go on a rampage like blinkered oafs...I think Nigeria should provide solid proofs that it actually supported the anti-apartheid struggle overtly and adequately like all the country listed.

Nigeria is also not listed in all academic sources that I've read about the anti-apartheid struggle. Even Libya and Gaddafi, which appeared in most academic sources isn't on this list. So, whatever "help" they're alluding to here, might be different from whatever you think you gave.

Anyway, I know Nigeria did try to support to Angola during the bloody civil war in that country, against the West and Apartheid SA. But the man who was championing it, Murtala Muhammed, was assassinated before he started - and those who took over were CIA moles who never bothered after that. This one is well documented - but the South African one isn't in any academic source.

And if you want to allude to songs/speeches - a lot of African Americans, and blacks in the new world also did that. But they also didn't get any recognition. So, apply wisdom.

Lol you need to re-check your sources, Nigeria was not just a proactive supporter but a major financier of the anti-apartheid movement. It granted asylums to many black South Africans involved in the struggle, including Mandela.

The guy who mentioned the nationalisation of BP to AP, did so to highlight part of the diplomatic tit-for-tat which ensued after Nigeria pulled out of the commonwealth games in protest against the Thatcher administration's open support of the apartheid regime.

Another retaliatory move on the part of Britain was imposing visa requirements on Nigerians before they could enter Britain... Which was previously not the case. Nigerians used to be able to enter into Britain visa-free till this saga.

All these are verifiable information, they're out there.

Don't you find it ironical that Britain's name was included in that list when the British prime minister at the height of the anti-apartheid struggle (Margaret Thatcher) famously branded Mandela a terrorist?

I'm not always one to support Nigerians and their inflated sense on greatness, but this is a clear move by South Africa to spite Nigeria and re-write their own version of history.

Watch this video, you get a clearer perspective. This was Mandela's first official visit after he left prison.

Okay. A few scholarships for black South African students. Laudable, but that doesn't negate the fact that Nigeria never really helped in the actual struggle like other countries did.

Anyway, Nigeria back then was in shambles, with all kinds of rogues running around. The government that took over from 1985, to the end of apartheid regime - was neck deep in Iran Contra, helping CIA and Ronald Reagan move drugs through Nigeria from Iran/Afghanistan to the streets of America to funds war in Nicaragua and arm sales to Iran. While maintaining cosy relationship with Margaret Thatcher and Israel. And Ronald Reagan, Israel, and Margaret Thatcher supported the apartheid regime.

So, once you start breaking it down, the truth will smack you in the face. It's bitter but it's always better to accept it, and make amends after that.

That was the way folks were getting emotional during the xenophobic attacks. And the Tinubu man just alluded to everything I posted on those threads. A lot of you need proper education - emotions won't go you lot anywhere. Nigeria messed up!

Did Nigeria help defeat Apartheid in other to turn SA into a vassal fiefdom? Whatever happened to altruism; fine, you people helped defeat Apartheid but you're always quick to point this out, you rob our efforts of any dignity. The struggle against Apartheid was not just an SA thing, it was a struggle to gain equality for the Negro races, we wanted these people to be free in their own homeland and to be able to make their own decisions;

This is a BIG slap on us! The only way Nigeria can pay them back in their own coin is to develop Nigeria better than South Africa, make it the true giant of Africa;a home for all africans, envy of all other African countries where her citizens will walk with their heads held up high and can move around the world without being harassed and descriminated upon;and more importantly cut all ties with sa and Indonesia.

Do u expect them to acknowledge us when they see us as a major threat to them? South Africa can never be like us, remove all d developments and infrastructures d whiteman built there South Africa will be worse than Cameroon infrastructure wise. They will be compared to Botswana. Even with our challenges of fighting boko haram and other vices we re still the biggest economy in Africa. Why won't they beef us? I love my country naija. Good or bad the land is green. The best country on mother earth. A country without hurricanes, earthquakes, typhoons, volcano eruptions, famine etc. A land blessed with abundant foods like beans, tomatoes, onions, cabbage, lettuce, yams not forgetting livestocks in the north, Palm oil, cassava, bananas/plantains etc in the South. Cocoa, rubber, kolanut, cassava etc in d West and natural palm wine, Palm oil, etc. A land full of natural resources-oil and gas, bitumen, coal, tin and columbite, steel, Cooper, etc. Woooooow what a country, a country where anything grows without the aid of fertilizer. I love NIGERIA. My sweet mother land.

The final nail on the coffin of Nigeria's Sense of entitlement?
Twitter user @Mokhathi recently paid a visit to his native Freedom Park in South Africa, a park/museum created in honor of the Black Liberation struggle and the eventual abolishment of Apartheid. And inside the museum rests a board/Plaque recognizing and appreciating the various countries that came to their aid in numerous fields during those trying times.

But what I found most interesting is the fact that Nigeria wasn't for once mentioned on that list.
Take a look and examine the list yourselves:

When you juxtapose this with the numerous stories we've heard about how Nigerian leaders spent billions helping South Africa as well as arm-twisting the Brits by indigenizing their companies, it's even more weird. Even Ghana, Tanzania, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and Lesotho were recognized, but not the self-proclaimed Giant of Africa with its "Big Daddy" complex.

Isn't it funny that, during the decade Nigerian military officers were spending those billions of dollars "helping" far away South Africa, Bayelsa wasn't even on the national grid?
Isn't it funny that, during the decade our "leaders" were spending those billions, numerous towns and villages in the Niger Delta had its locals drinking, washing, bathing, swimmig, DEFECATING, cooking and EATING from the same water source?

Isn't it funny that the same country "spending billions" to "liberate" another couldn't even boast of reliable electricity or a functional steel mill to aid its industrial sector?

This is when you begin to ask if the so-called 'Black Emancipation' spree, embarked on by our leaders at that period, was really an honest fight for justice or one big, overbloated ego trip meant to serve their interests and line their pockets. From the oil boom of the 70's which only translated to flashy, nonsensical Jamborees like FESTAC77 and ECOMOG noise, were the 70's and 80's really about exemplary Leadership or just self-serving idiocy?

As a final shot, I'd advise my fellow Nigerians (especially our leaders) to shun this "pan African" foolishines and FOCUS on just serving the people who elected them, not some strangers hundreds of miles away!

Pan-Africanism is a FARCE. Has always been so; will always be so.

PS: E really pain this my guy! grin
