SirShymexx: Those are quotes, no need to twist, or doctor the old man's words. It's straight forward enough. I could use "Yes, Nigeria stood by us more than any nation", and "You know I hear from Angolans and Mozambicans and Zimbabweans how your people opened their hearts and their homes to them. I was in prison then, but we know how your leaders punished western companies who supported apartheid." If I'm trying to be one-sided. Like always, I try to as unbiased as possible. Summary of the interview is (excluding all comprehension issues): Like we all do, the old man recognizes Nigeria's huge issues with corruption, which is strangling the country, While at the same time recognizing Nigeria's huge/unrivaled role in their struggle with apartheid. P.S. Going to prison didn't render him deaf, blind and dumb. Even a kid given birth to today, can in 15-25 years, know the history of all the countries in the world if he studies about them. It's about learning. 2 Likes |

bakynes: This is just paradoxical cos you just exposed ya illiteracy. Did you read the full sentence, and not just the first bit? When you can read full sentences, you'll see what carrot and stick is. Mandela was in prison, locked up on an Island when the struggle gained momentum - he wasn't privy to much. Anyway, when you start opening history books, you'll be shocked with ya mouth wide open, after seeing how Nigeria messed up. 1 Like |

But why do people expect so much from South Africans? Hmm. The fact that few South African Whites succeeded in dominating and subduing them even till late 20th century testified to the kind of people they are. Nigerians should not be bothered at all about their ungratefulness, they are already reaping it. South Africa economy is collapsing in the hands of blacks, by the time they chase foreigners aways, then they shall have themselves to blame. Soon, they are going to beg the whites to take over from them. 2 Likes |

SirShymexx: Lol can you cite me one of those academic sources? Obviously, Nigeria couldn't have granted asylum to every single anti-apartheid activist, Nigeria was just one of the frontline states, there were other countries as well. The frontline countries provided support in various capacities be it training, logistics, diplomatic or financial support. As for the source pictured, that's nothing but mere skepticism/speculation from one Ann Genova, it is not fact but journalistic cynicism and it is never to be taken ahead of the official story from the Nigerian government except there's solid evidence to prove other ulterior motives. As for Margaret Thatcher imposing visa requirements, maybe you're right, that may be been the official reason that was given, so I can't argue on that without any counter evidence however some would say the timing leaves more to be answered. History cannot be white-washed, if countries like Lesotho & Tanzania can be on the list, then Nigeria double-deserves a mention. The list even includes Britain (who actually supported the apartheid regime) proving its nothing but a sham and nonsensical list. Nigerians are cocky, arrogant and even delusional but the truth remains the truth.. And this is one of those cases where sadly, fabricated history cannot replace irrefutable facts. http://nigeriaworld.com/articles/2008/may/261.html http://www.safpi.org/news/article/2013/south-africa-needs-appreciate-nigeria-s-role-ending-apartheid http://www.citypress.co.za/columnists/mandela-memorial-nigeria-left/ 2 Likes

MY PEOPLE, LISTEN TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY........ STOP GIVING SOUTH AFRICA OR ANY COUNTRY THAT DECIDES TO HATE ON THIS COUNTRY UNNECESSARY ATTENTION. Our attention, observations, analyses and recommendations are needed right here IN THE COUNTRY. STOP WASTING IT OUTSIDE. OKAY. NIGERIA DID NOT CONTRIBUTE IN ANY WAY TO THE FIGHT AGAINST APARTHEID. And so? Does it make us any less a nation, or is it going to affect our economy, or make our roads not be built, or create unemployment, or get you out of job, or make you not get visa to travel, or keep you unmarried, or deny you visa to travel, or make you not get that job, or buy that house? Exactly what is it going to remove from our lives? Nigeria has tried a lot for Africa. IT IS TIME WE CHANNEL OUR FULL ATTENTION, MONEY AND TALENTS TO DEVELOPING THE COUNTRY AND CHANGE OUR OWN LIVES. I honestly do not see the reason why anyone will frown, or shout or even curse them. It takes nothing away from you. FOCUS ON YOURSELF, QUIT ETHNIC BIGOTRY AND APPLAUDING OF HOOLIGANISM, AND LET'S SEND CROOKS TO WHERE THEY BELONG. Nigeria must soar. 2 Likes |

size=15] A Yoruba adage says "ijà ilara kii tan boro" ...which simply means the fight for supremacy is a bitter one and hardly has no end. This implies that SA sees Nigeria has a bigger rival and don't want to ever admit that we're better than they are. But if you ask me, you can't blame them.. you claim say you get money pass me, you're the richest in the community and yet my children are living far more comfortably than urs and they are happy. My house is far more organised compared to yours. Even though you get money pass me, I live a better life than you and yet you're asking me to prostate and greet and recognize you as my superior. Isn't that claim easily contestable.. judging from the fact that I put my meagre resources into better use than you. Let our leaders perform and S.A will be forced to call you MASTER . However, history will judge S.A for failing to recognize our efforts in their Apartheid struggle... even though our house isn't in order. Credits MUST be given for standing by them and giving our support. 1 Like |

SirShymexx: Let's say the truth, the support Nigeria gave SA during the crisis was covert. And were not internationlly recognized. Remember the Nigeria military regime was not in good terms with the west, and the human rights activists were giving us bad image. So our efforts were not properly documented. |

50calibre: Brev, those aren't academic sources - those are Nigerian propaganda sources based on the lies the Nigerian government told the Nigerian people. - The first one cited $61 billion. Where did Nigeria get $61 billion from to expend on another country? The highest Nigerian budget ever for a year, in the history of Nigeria, isn't up to $40 billion - that was at the peak of oil prices, when they were extremely/ridiculously high. Heck, even if they were to sell all of Nigeria's stakes in its oil industry - I doubt Nigeria will get $61 billion back for everything. That number is just ridiculous and an outright lie. And that's enough to question the validity of the claim. - The second source is wikipedia - that is not an academic source. Anyone can go on wiki to post anything there. Okay, let's accept it as an academic source: who were these people? The names of the faces of the struggle are out here - how many of them were exiled in Nigeria? Can you list them? The academic source, by Ann Genova, in which I provided isn't just some propaganda tool - that's a journal by an academic from Boston University. And a well researched scholarship/journal about African historical studies.
