funny enough, i asked a similar question on a thread recently and got only one reply, i was curious cos then i was looking for a job (in strictly programming) (since everybody no fit be co-founder ), but only one person replied on the thread, i had to go out to search for d answers myself. I did about 4 interviews in some core tech coys(mostly some of our super-startups) and the average salary they offered me was 120 to 130k. Although i consider myself an intermediate programmer and i do mostly web programming (php, JS stack, and small python and java). I personally don't know why people like hiding their salary or where they work(it's not a must u state it exactly) cos if u visit sites like glassdoor, payscale, indeed and co, u will see d average salary someone with your skill-set earns, but here in 9ja, everyone behaves as if they are working for EFCC or CIA when asked about their salary or work details online! smh 141 Likes 12 Shares |

abdul01: my boss knows am on Nairaland , however mentioning pay scale is a tricky and touchy topic. it cost me nothing to tell you, you can personally i'd tell you not on a public forum. even of my staff had an article written on him on techcabal a very touching topic, and the company we worked for was mentioned, it was a serious issue. 120/130k hmmmm that's not bad it depends on your experience and relevance to the company. but then again you would get better in Konga/Andela but i never take jobs because of how much i can earn but what type of experience i can gain from the company. If not i'd be working for Andela. Experience with hardcore tools matter to me, you can never have enough money anyway. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

pcguru1: ok. that's nice. i forgot to mention that i have about 1-2 years post NYSC experience. I'm also a fan of working where i can gain alot(but the money has to be reasonable too, cos na 9ja we dey, no be america), that's why personally i'ld prefer to work where i have senior experienced programmers not ppl like me, so that i can tap from their knowledge, cos no matter how much u code on ur own there are some things u [only] learn (better and faster) when working in a team. U also get to be exposed to some devops skills that u might not be able to acquire when u freelance. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

Proffdada: my guy, not that i'm an igrate oh, but 120k(dem go still comot tax and pension oh) is [too] small for a programmer, considering the environment we live in. ok lets break it down: daily tfare, food and miscellaneous: 1k * 25 ~ 30k U have to have constant, reliable and uninterrupted internet access ~ 5 to 10k U have to pay for courses online (as a developer u MUST keep improving urself and learning everything learnable from security to bigdata to devops to IOT to machine learning to embedded programming n co., cos the tech world is changing everyday and if one isn't updated u'ld be left behind) U also have to pay for different softwares and cloud services(if u're d type thats says no to piracy(i used to b4, but owu na bastard )) so at d end of d month majority of this 100k is spent back on the job itself! That's why i feel a programmer shouldn't earn anything less than 200k(i feel we are getting there sha small small(only if peeps like our oga at d top here where serious)), at least 21 year old stanford grads for silicon val dey boast of $100,000 salary per annum and we we dey here dey happy for 120k/month! smh! 34 Likes 5 Shares |

I forgot to mention also that as a programmer u have to have 24 hours access to ur computer, i.e there should be no downtime at all, cos u are like a server, it might be in the night that people need u or in d night that u feel like working and the rest. so all these are part of the overheads and operational cost incurred in being a programmer. 5 Likes 1 Share |

I don't really have any idea on how much they are collecting here in Nigeria maybe because of the fact that I'd rather have my own tech startup (which I've already started) than work for some tech firm. 4 Likes |

Salary varies among companies, the stage, revenue of the company and even the attwntion that the company is getting. I was offered a contract job of 200k in Febuary as an enterprise application developer, the contact was suppose to last for 7 months and my job role was minor, like very minor. But based on the brand or company that the project was associated I couldn't just accept less. 1 Like 1 Share |
