The present-day Brazil is made up of people including the descendants of the African slaves brought into the country in the mid-sixteenth century. Some of these are the Bakongo, the Mbundo and the Ovimbundu peoples from Angola and the Congo; the Fon people (or Jeje) from Benin; the Yoruba people (or Nago) from Nigeria and Benin. And it is needless to say that the culture and tradition of these people, though with various changes are with them in their adopted country. The question should be how did slaves from these African countries sent to Brazil retain their language and those sent to America didn't. But no our Yoruba nairalanders are more interested in beating their chests and calling Igbos like Angolan and Congolese slaves in Brazil didn't retain their identity there. babyosisi: Why does it pain you anytime Yoruba is exported outside of Nigeria? Even if Yorubas were brought to America earlier than Biafran slaves sold for a mirror, we would have found ways to retain our culture and heritage. Yoruba culture, tradition and culture is transcends time. It's something we can never let go. Yoruba culture is sweet because we ARE civilized. 22 Likes |

THE YORUBA PEOPLE Total population c. 40 million Regions with significant populations Nigeria 36 million (2013) Benin 1.2 million (2012) Ghana 0.4 million Togo 0.1 million Ivory Coast 0.1 million Europe 0.2 million North America 0.2 million Languages Yorùbá Yoruboid languages English French Religion Christianity Islam Yorùbá religion Related ethnic groups Bini, Nupe, Igala, Itsekiri, Ebira, Fon, Ewe Esan The Yoruba people (Yoruba: Àwọn ọmọ Yorùbá) are an ethnic group of southwestern Nigeria and southern Benin in West Africa. The Yorùbá constitute over 35 million people in total; the majority of this population is from Nigeria and make up 21% of its population, according to the CIA World Factbook, making them one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa. The majority of the Yoruba speak the Yoruba language which is a tonal Niger-Congo language. The Yorùbá share borders with the Borgu in Benin; the Nupe and Ebira in central Nigeria; and the Edo, the Ẹsan, and the Afemai in mid-western Nigeria. The Igala and other related groups are found in the northeast, and the Egun, Fon, Ewe and others in the southeast Benin. The Itsekiri who live in the north-west Niger delta are related to the Yoruba but maintain a distinct cultural identity. Significant Yoruba populations in other West African countries can be found in Ghana, Togo, Ivory Coast, Liberia and Sierra Leone (where they have blended in with the Saro and Sierra Leone Creole people). The Yoruba diaspora consists of two main groupings, one of them includes relatively recent migrants, the majority of which moved to the United States and the United Kingdom after major economic changes in the 1970s; the other is a much older population dating back to the Atlantic slave trade. This older community has branches in such countries as Cuba, Brazil, and Trinidad and Tobago. Http://http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoruba_people 7 Likes |

babyosisi: Get it right ma'am http://nakedinafrica.com/naked-protests-black-african-women/ Protests of African women when using their bodies and femininity as a tool against the aggressor remains a proven and powerful tool for change. Whether protests employ methods of flashing, stripping, sex strikes or candid self portraits, what makes it powerful is the accessibility of the medium to all. And it worked. Yorubas protest peacefully. We don't protest with cutlass and guns like they do in Aba, abia 12 Likes |
