how much revenue does government get from cattle herding? everyday it is trouble between farmer and herder! we have to deploy troops and police because of farm destruction and cattle rustling! what is the profit for government! is this not a drainpipe to commit so much resources to unprofitable venture? will nigeria not be better if we ban cattle herders? think of all the savings from JTF, hospital bills, refugees, NEMA expenses, etc! ban cattle herders and safe money! 4 Likes 1 Share |

tit:the question the OP asked was ended with a conclusive statement to ban herdsmen which is somehow black magical. Billions of naira are pumped into academic sponsorships, into infrastructural developments for urban dwellers, into pensions n social benefits, into compensation of minor incidents that could have been prevented. The little these nomads benefit from the land of their ancestors u want to deny them if it. They get no loans, no dwellings, no communities allocated n well maintained by the govt. The few they get for compensation for the benefits they lack as humans, u with all to make it successfully in the world of the elites chose to propose denial of the mediocre benefits that help support nomads. U r devilish to the bone. Without those men u would hardly get meat at ur table. Count that as a revenue. Those nomads are the reasons u can feed to a bellyful of satisfaction. Have u ever been to a tax office? Have u ever paid ur tax all ur life? 1 Like |

Sunnybobo3: Item.............................................Amount (N) Cost of buying cattle....................... 36,000 Cost of Transportation......................600 – 1000/ 500 (by trek) Government Tax............................250.00 Cost of loading & Offloading...............300.00 Commission.....................................200 - 1000 For the information of the ignorant among us, the above is the average cost of marketing Per Head of cattle. Note that the government gets N250 per head. Now multiply that by the millions and millions of cattle killed and eaten by you people and you'll have an idea. Ignorance no good at all. Mind you, I'm only talkning about what government gets from domestic sales alone. |

Sunnybobo3: So you aren't aware that nomadic farming is grouped under livestock farming in Nigeria and contributes to government revenue in several ways? Agriculture contributes 23% to Nigeria's GDP and a break-down of key contributories showed that Nomadic farming is responsible for 6% of the GDP. Why are economists advising Nigeria to work on Agriculture if it is not important? |

Re: How Much Revenue From Cattle Herding by nduchucks: 4:14pm On May 03, 2015 |
Sunnybobo3: The tax commonly known as “Jangali” is also paid by cattle rearers. I however do not believe that you are here to learn or educate people. I suspect that you are simply here to disparage hard working Nigerians who rear cattle. For that, a big shame on you! 3 Likes |

Re: How Much Revenue From Cattle Herding by AhmedMustapha(m): 4:22pm On May 03, 2015 |
Sunnybobo3:You need to understand that there are several tax evaders in the country and taxes contribute only 7% to Nigeria's GDP that's why government has to work hard to bring as many Nigerians as possible into the tax net. Away from that, these nomadic farmers provide raw materials to industries that are in turn taxed so you can't belittle their contribution to the Nation's revenue 1 Like |

AhmedMustapha: Can you explain to me why someone in Port Harcourt with oil in his backyard buy Fuel at the same price with someone in Birnin Kebbi while the person in Birnin Kebbi buys beef at a fraction of the cost of what the person in PH buys his? Is that not injustice? 3 Likes |
Re: How Much Revenue From Cattle Herding by AhmedMustapha(m): 4:36pm On May 03, 2015 |
Sunnybobo3:So this discussion was all about who owns OIL? As it stands the oil is Nigeria's property, it is only located in the Niger Delta and I feel the people of that region have been given so much attention by the government but if the people want control of their resources, there are ways that can be achieved 2 Likes |

UnknownT:nice one! Well, u must understand that poultry farmers also fall under the same category. Fishermen as well etc as they are all classified as farmers. As far as i know, there is no reliable empirical data as the previous quoter stated. Farmers in the country have no defined association as these are subsistent farmers who resort to farming as a way out. The government only supports the groups of farmers which do not comprise of the subsistent farmers being referred here. These guys go a long way to bring food to our table. U can't afford chicken if chicken were ur stable delicacy. Beef is the most consumed n sourced meat in the country. It is also the most affordable in all. I am saying that any step to make the lives of the herdsmen any miserable will result to starvation n unemployment. They deserve the support from the government that u and I also deserve |

I regretfully disagree with you on this! The beef value chain is a multi-billion naira investment! It is expected to get to over one trillion by 2020! The herding of cows constitute part of the primary base of the value chain! tit: |

Re: How Much Revenue From Cattle Herding by UnknownT: 5:00pm On May 03, 2015 |
jascon1:So the support from government is for them to be allowed to be maiming and causing havocs anywhere they 'herd' their cattle to? They graze on people's farmlands( these farmers are mostly subsistence farmers), destroy their crops and most times kill the farmers if they resist and you say they should be allowed to continue to avoid starvation and unemployment. So all the farmers that their crops are destroyed are the ones that are entitled to starve? 2 Likes 1 Share |
Re: How Much Revenue From Cattle Herding by internetpirate: 5:02pm On May 03, 2015 |
I agree with you! People underestimate the power of the industry, but it's a goldmine! Having said this, nomadic practices should be jettisoned in favour of modern ways, like the seed sprouter system via hydroponics! AhmedMustapha: |

Am not against these people and their cattle, my problem is that they should stop destroying farmlands and killing farmers. The farmers and farmlands they are destroying/killing contribute majorly to our stomach infrastructure compared to any other sector.. Nomads, respect our farmers... 1 Like |
