Did my interview on Wednesday. I heard the interview stage has ended. How long before we I know my fate. Can't wait for the boot camp.

I want to assume you still have a year to run after your SIWES program. That said, the Andela fellowship is a 4-year journey that in itself is also the start of another journey entirely. I would advice you complete your degree program first and come for Andela. Andela is here to stay. So no worries.

You can of course reapply again but you don't even need to wait for andela or the university to be a programmer. Many believe good programmers are self taught. Go over to www.codeacademy.com and try out their free online course. I would advise you start with html, css and then javascript while you wait on andela that is if you decided to reapply.

Yeah, the universities only teach theory, but I advise you still Pursue your university education first and use the sites suggested to hone your skills. That way you can start early to plan your career in software dev.

I actually agree with you grin. I was referring to the way computer users see programming grin.
Which is where many ladies fall grin

There is nothing stopping you from becoming a badass programmer even when in the University. There are lots of things you can learn yourself and later on build on. There are also lots of resources out there on the web if you know how to harness the internet's real power. That said, you can start from learning about data structures and algorithms as these two seemingly simple entities make programming a monster to tame for some. Then, you can go ahead and jump into the huge sea of programming.

I think I am talking too much already. Just get a powerful laptop, fairly constant internet connection and program away!

And about applying to Andela again. If it is what you really want to do, discuss it with your parents so you can weigh out your options before making a decision.

Resources:
www.codecademy.com
www.4shared.com - For ebooks

Then you can get videos on www.youtube.com if you learn more using videos.

www.google.com is also a good friend to talk to.

Cheers

Hello guys, I applied for the class IX and just finished the home study course on dash. I have tried going back to review the course but it's as if I can't do that.
How exactly is the test because though I understood most of the stuff, I'm not convinced I have complete grasp of it. I'm quite new to programming. You could call me a novice.

That was exactly what I did. Though I studied computer science, we did near to nothing of programming. So I got ebooks and videos and did what I could do in my spare time. I started with Visual Basic cos it was quite easy to get through, then went along on to C++ and some Java (all to understand the concepts of programming) . Later on I realized I really love the web, so I focused on web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and mySQL).

So yes. You can cope. You are smart, right? So your smarts is all you need. You might also need a mentor. grin

www.stackoverflow.com will also come handy in your journey.

If you understooe most of the stuffs, then you should be good.

Did you complete the codecademy courses, cos to me, codecademy is kinda complete and more beginner oriented. If you neeed more understanding, check out www.w3schools.com for more on the aspects you still find challenging.

www.eloquentjavascript.net is also a good resource if you want to understand more of JavaScript.

Hope this helps. grin

Sadly no arrangement for accomodation for bootcamp, for now.

You might have to find someone in lagos to stay with.
