From what you posted, it shows you are paranoid and afraid of the unknown. Also it seems you are not well prepared.

Anyway it is just a temporary delay, all you got to do now is re fire and prepare adequately. Get rid of your fear and improve your use of English and arrangement of words. Simplify yourself so that even a lame man will understand your point.

VOs are not God, so they are not to be scared of. I believe you can do you. Just take the courage.
#MYVIEW

You nailed it.

Paranoid and afraid of the unknown is an apt summary of everything. I just did not know what my worry was for and what I feared, I started confidently and at a point, I went with the wind.

Refiring and preparing again is in the works, O just need to know what day is probably available again in order for me to re-apply.

Congratulations o bro.

God bless your sojourn in Obama land.

I almost had her convinced because she started nodding at some point as I laid my answers then suddenly I screeched to a halt and she began to give me this look and took the questions very slowly again.

Mehn, the lady though.

Noticed how people that have scholarships and tuition wavers from their prospective schools hardly get denied visa.

V.O: where in the US are you going to?

Me: I told her.

V.O: why the school.

Me: one of the not so many schools offering international relations as a major at Post Grad level as opposed to many other schools offering it either as a minor or at undergrad levels only.

Also, the course curriculim suit my academic expectation and career aspirations bla bla bla

V.O: How many schools did you apply to?

Me: 3 - OAU, Webster abd Univ of Oklahoma

V.O: Why did you apply to these Schools or why did you not go to these schools (I honestly did not hear these question very well).

Me: i muddled everything up here by giving 2 answers to the 2 questions I thought I heard.

V. O: What do you do?

Me: told her

V.O: who's paying

Me: Parents

V.O: what was your first degree in

Me: Told her

V.O: did you do your first degree outside the country?

Me: No, I did it here in Nigeria.

V.O: why international relations?

Me: told her how my career goals of lecturing and being a diplomat align with international relations.

V.O: ok, I am sorry but you do not qualify for visa at the moment, you can reapply again.

Me: smiled, took the blue paper and my documents, turned around and left.
Why not talk about peace and conflict resolution as an area you are interested and only two schools in US offers that area of specialization. You need to talk intelligently, stop muddling things up. Post your pre interview response here and CC me, I will help you edit it and give a better response.

God is good...

Who will believe that I applied to my 4th school of choice on the 16th of April, 2015 (although i filled their pre-screening form in Nov. 2014)...and got admitted + funding (full tuition waiver + stipend of 16k) on the 1st of May.

Long story, but God just showed me that he is awesome.

Visa process is next...

Hello Nairalanders, I initially applied for the accelerated nursing program in Illinois state university but then some people advised me to change to another course because VOs don't normally grant visas to people going to study nursing so I changed to health information management but I already have a degree in cell biology and genetics(university of lagos) and now I'm hearing that they don't usually issue visas to second degree applicants, my interview is on may 26th, 2015...I'm a little confused...should I tell the vos I'm going for a second degree or a forget that I have a prior BSc and just say I'm going for a first degree instead? Thank you

You would have gone for your nursing program. But most times, the VO's want to see progression.

cheesy cheesy cheesy

Just be cool, focused, give cogent reasons why you want to study in the US and prove home ties. The CO will have no choice than to approve your visa.
