Christians What's Your Take On This??? by BobUg28(m): 4:26pm On May 05, 2015
I was reading through a thread here on NL when I stumbled on this particular passage and I say let me extract it so that we can deliberate on it.

"The problem with this world was that we 'men' were good at cheating. We always had reasons why we did what we did. The problem started thousands of years ago.
I had even read somewhere in the Bible where a king sent a man to the war front just because he liked his wife. According to what I read, the man was killed and his wife was taken by the king. It was even the wife of the dead man that gave birth to the king's successor. And yet the Bible claimed that the king born by the wife of the killed man was chosen by God himself. Why was our lives being confused here and there?
We africans were lied to, we were brainwashed to believe what we didn't know how it came to be. It was not fair. It was all supposed to be crimes. The worst of it all was that our criminal elite Pastors and Prophets took up the criminal preaching and continued where the missionaries stopped. The result was that they became rich beyond every member of their congregation"

What do you have to say about it

That child David had out of wedlock died remember the woman made him promised her that her son would be the king so they later got married and had a son named Solomon..

Secondly, i get the fact that they are so many fake pastors out there. Most churches preach riches instead of salvation "seek ye first the kingdom of God and every other things shall be added upto you" but you can only fall victim when you don't study the word of God. Holy spirit is the greatest teacher that's why we need to invite the holy spirit.

Thirdly, believing the word of God is optional. Nobody is forcing you to believe that's why Jesus said "I'm at the door of your heart knocking. ..." it's your choice to open up to Him, Jesus will never break into your heart even though He loves all sinners.

Lastly, i don't get where people get dis ideology of pastors are supposed to be poor. If you go through the bible very well you will see how riche most of them were especially those who walked with God namely David, Moses, Abraham, Solomon etec. The bible says " The gift of God maketh way for him and adds no sorrow" My dear once you are in right tune with God tou have no business being poor. Our creator is rich, He has the whole world so why would His ambassadors be poor? The thing is most 'godly' pastors know what to do to attract God's blessing and sometimes they pass it on to their members too but only those who understands the word of God and know what He says about making it in life would capitalise on them

Sometimes, I wonder why majority of our youths out there always fail to understand/(believe in) the existence of the almighty God and the efficacy of his supernatural power.

Ammluv2002, I'm so sorry for responding this late. PHCN abi NEPA has not been nice of late.

I think you addressed BobUg28's post perfectly. And I'd like to recommend to the OP that he should not take some comments seriously as they are from people who are bent on twisting God's Word so as to fault the Gospel. It was quite obvious that the person the OP quoted is either an Atheist or a pagan; either way, he/she showed displeasure at Christians/Pastors and the early missionaries.

BobUg28, just to add to what she stated, the will of God is that His own are wealthy; "I wish above all things that thou mayest PROSPER..." Should a pastor walk up to you, preaching of the majesty of Christ yet is adorned with ragged clothes, then doubt his words. Christ was never a pauper, he had all at His disposal, this best explain why He sent His disciples to fetch some money from the mouth of a fish! (Matt 17:24-27).

If my Saviour is and was never poor, why then should I, His follower, be poor? Pastors, even though most are after material things, are oracles of God and are expected to reflect the riches of God. The early Christian missionaries brought Christianity but did not force us to accept Christ. We did on our own and we found it wonderful. The missionaries never looted or exploit anyone. Please quote the person who made those assertions you quoted. It would be nice to have him share his viewpoint. Ammyluv2002, God bless you for your response. Had to copy somegrin

Perfect! Was expecting something as this. Pastors ideally would not tell you that preaching is indeed laborious and tasking. They often see it as something they've been called to do. Notice most of these pastors, you'd discover that these are qualified, sound and brilliant beings. In other words, they're professionals in their fields before and after taking the bold step to walk in faith.

Then again, sound Christians understand that the "Priests" as mentioned in Genesis, Exodus, Levitcus and Numbers are certain people who hardly have a life of their own. They don't work, they hardly get married and were instructed to eat from some of the offerings and sacrifices brought before the Lord.

Again, the tribe known as Levites, of the sons of Levi, were given a special task by God (1 Chronicles 16:4; 2 Chronicles 7:6) - to praise ceaselessly in the tabernacle. When the lands of Jacob (Israel) was shared among the twelve, Levites (sons of Levi) were the only ones not apportioned lands (Joshua 18:7)

The Levites and the priests are exactly like our present day pastors. The eat from the church and even though they have qualifications to meet up with the world and its standard, they tend to shove those things aside and focus purely on the "Levitical" ministries. So tell me, in your own words, would you say someone who forsakes all things, and decide to preach the Word of God is lazy and not labouring? If the priests of the old testament could eat from the offerings brought to the temple and is instructed by God to eat from the meats, how then is it any different from the pastors of today who are priests of God?

I dont think both of you are ready for argument of this magnitude.
First, one of you accused me of being an atheist or having displeasure about Christianity, why would I be displeased with Christianity?

Did David not send Uriah to the war front just to take his wife?
Play that scenario with your mother and father and see how beautiful it can look, thats if you are capable of thinking for yourself.

Yep, imagine the king of your town, killing your father just to take your mother.

What is nice about that? Was it so good because it was written in the Bible?
Would you like it if it was written in Koran?

What if it was written in Children's books, would you encourage your children to follow that path?

I am first of all, a human being. Atheist, Christianity, Islam and others are our own creations..

God didn't send any of them to us.

And for the record, the quote was from my book "There And Back On Time". So don't ask why I responded.

.......

Now let's get to the human aspect of our argument.

Mr. Sanchez01, you have been friends with ammyluv2002. You are following her on nairaland. You liked her profile picture. She follows you too and despite you putting an image that is not your picture, she liked it too. Isn't that right?

That means you like her. And as a Nigerian, whatever she says must be right, isn't that the truth?
Now tell me how that can allow you to analyse her post to pick out faults; impossible.

I think I'm ready and it's a bit simple. The argument is not in any way huge but extremely simple. The premise is not your claim of men cheating but about your book which BobUg28 quoted some excerpts;

This, I believe, was mentioned by the OP to which I have issues with. 'IF' indeed the above is in your book, then your book is faulted and tilted to make sense of your claim. True, David took Uriah's wife, Bathsheba, devised a means to get rid of him and eventually planned that his own soldiers abandon Uriah on the battlefield which eventually led to the man's death. - II Samuel 11:14.

The reason for David's trick was not because he wanted the woman at all cost but because he had slept with the woman while Uriah was away on the battle ground. David had committed adultery with Bathsheba and the two thought it would be best to claim that the pregnancy was Uriah's but when he refused to sleep with his wife (as a result of the Soldiers 'code' of not sleeping with women or a woman when war is near), David resolved to killing him in an unannounced way so as to rid Bathsheba of adultery, public shame and ultimately, death.

And of course, Bathsheba had a child but what happened? - II Sam 12

12 The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, 3 but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.

4 “Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him.”

5 David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this must die! 6 He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.”

7 Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I gave your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. 9 Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. 10 Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’

11 “This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight. 12 You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.’

13 Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”

Nathan replied, “The Lord has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. 14 But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for[a] the Lord, the son born to you will die.

Guess what happened to the child? He died! This, according to your book, or according to the quote of the OP is contradictory. "
It was even the wife of the dead man that gave birth to the king's successor"
.How about we look at this aspect;
And yet the Bible claimed that the king born by the wife of the killed man was chosen by God himself

This is simple; there's no argument here. And like I mentioned earlier, you're either an Atheist or you deliberately twisted the Scriptures to establish your claim. No one is encouraging David's act but have you ever considered why Solomon, the second child of Bathsheba to David became the king instead? I guess that could be a topic for another day. Again, your claim to the David saga is twisted and untrue. Period. God did not approve of David's act and this was one of the reasons God rejected that he builds His temple; the blood on his hands were way to much.

You should consider making a revised edition of your book soonest.

Alright sanchez01..

According to your or perhaps according to the Bible, the reason why David wanted Uriah dead was because Uriah refused to sleep with his wife. Which of course would implicate David, the mighty king.

Was that right in the first place?
The same book claimed that David was the one God loved most. Right? Are you kidding me?
Well the escape route is that God's ways are different from ours, but we were created in his image and likeness.

You and ammy being friends is what I was talking about. It's good to be friends but it's difficult to disagree with our female friends in matters like this one.

Well it cannot be denied that churches feed off the tithes of their members, without it they cannot exist. What is most ridiculous are is the doctrine that not paying tithe makes one eligible for hell. That's obviously foolish.

What David did was wrong and no sane Christian will support his actions. David was loose when it came to women. And yes, David was special to God but being special, chosen, assigned or created by God does not mean that one cannot disappoint Him.

David: He was declared by God to be "a man after my heart" but had many sins in his account, one of which the Uriah saga is pronounced.

Adam: The first ever man to walk the earth. He was formed by God after He said "Let us create a man after our image and likeness." That still does not mean he did not fall short.

Moses: The terror of Egypt and Messiah of the suffering Israel. He was used for great exploits but could not reach his destination because he allowed anger consume him which led to disobedience.

Saul: The first chosen king of Israel; a man chosen by God Himself. Samuel was led to anoint Saul as king over Israel after the people demanded for a king. At the end, his kingdom was torn apart for being an irresponsible king who was not only impatient, but also disobedient. He failed in the end

Solomon: The man whom God gave a blank cheque but requested for wisdom. He got wisdom and God added riches and proclaimed none would be as wise and wealthy as Solomon, but guess what happened? The son of David and Bathsheba failed as he sought after strange women and gods. His wisdom became foolishness.

Samson: A Nazerene as Jesus and the only man God gave physical strength above others. Despite being prophesied to deliver and terrorize the enemies of God, he fell to a strange woman and frustrated the Grace he had. He failed.

Peter: One of the chosen twelve whom Christ handpicked to be "fishers of men", he was one of the inner circles of the three closest to Jesus after James and John. He denied Christ despite their close relationship.

Lucifer: Known as "Satan" today. He was an archangel and was in charge of music. He was the delight of God and was described as the "brighter morning star". He failed at the end and lost his place.

Summation: God could pick/favour any man. That does not mean that such a person cannot fall short. The closests to God and Christ and those assigned/ordained by God fell short and frustrated the anointing of God.

To say the truth, ammyluv2002, addressed the issue better than I did and she spoke my mind better. she could correct me when I'm wrong and vice-versa. Afterall, we're all out to learn.

Thirdly, i wonder why we are always too quick to judge others. Are you a saint? The levitical privileges enjoyed by the pastors today is propped by charity and can only justified to merely sustain them not enrich. It is inherently wrong to take from the faithful poor to feed pastors way beyond their necessities. Again pastors are fiduciary chiefs who supervise a charity -- the church's funds. Even seculars would be shocked to find trust administrators enriching themselves with the trust entrusted to them.

Besides Jesus found his ministry on the denial of worldly values such as material wealth. Jesus possessions were basic.

I get the fact that some Pastors rub their members but that doesn't mean there are no godly ones out there! Some of those members are the cause of their problems. The Bible made it clear "Look onto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith"some members depend so much on their pastors and thatz why they get to them easily.

Sweetheart, everything matters in an argument or law court; every little thing. If you and I are fighting here, my wife or girl friend or daughter has more chances of supporting me. Right?

But that is not the issue. Before I start any war, I plan it from the beginning. Since I wanted to have debate about religion with you and sanchez01, was it nor wise to check the relationship between you two? So I found out that you follow each other and like each other's posts randomly.

It was obvious from the beginning that both of you were leaning towards one side, so I have to know what I was up against. I am not against friendship, I like friendship, but I chose the wars I fight too.. Relax.

My take is that Mohammed is a horse with powerful Aggro all Muslims are trying to emulate

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 142 :Narrated by Anas bin Malik

The Prophet used to pass by (have sexual relation with) all his wives in one night, and at that time he had nine wives.

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 143 :Narrated by 'Aisha

Whenever Allah's Apostle finished his 'Asr prayer, he would enter upon his wives and stay with one of them. One day he went to Hafsa and stayed with her longer than usual.

I wouldn't know how to describe you after reading this. This obviously makes no sense. Ammy and have some things which we don't agree to. We're humans and our leanings may vary.

@ the blue bolded, I corrected the fact that you goofed on your David-Uriah-Bathsheba-Solomon assertion and also stated that you twisted the Bible to justify. I don't think there's any war here. You see this as a war which I find funny. What you were up against was mild correction and everyone did that in a way.

You wanted to debate a religious claim, rather than look up the Bible you asserted, you took to studying others. It's most funny to have you believe that we supported each other for some funny reasons known to you alone.

This is not war and neither is it a quest to prove who knows better, but an avenue to learn a thing a thing or two from one another. You shouldn't take debates too serious. BTW, since you goofed on your Solomon assertion, it is only wise that you apologize over this.

Proffdada, it would be unfair to insult other people's belief when the thread called for Christians.

Mr sanchez01,
You are slowly moving away from the point here. This is one reason why I don't like this section.
We are not in a Bible class to study whether the first child died or lived.

David stole Uriah's Wife.
David killed Uriah by sending him to war front.
David and Uriah's wife gave birth to Solomon who later became the King.
Of I am interested in whether a child died or not, the book and Google are there.
A king from a woman who was forcefully taken by another man.

A crime was committed here.. Right or wrong.

What fcvking goofing are you talking about? That you corrected me about the child not being Solomon?

... Let's concentrate on the original post.
Let's discuss what the Op asked. He seemed to be confused about how things happen in this world.
I hope you are up to that.

You might as well relate to the everyday life and leave quoting the Bible for a minute, I am not interested in discussing a story told million years ago.

.........

BTW let's forget about you and ammy.. I wanted to know what I was up against and I got it. Once more, I am not against your beautiful team, I just wanted to know what I was up against.

I have been on nairaland for over 6 years and I know how arguments happen on this section.
