Did Jesus Really Say I Am God? by mustymatic(m): 10:29pm On May 05, 2015 |
Answering the verses Christians use to prove Jesus is God Jesus (Peace be upon him) never said the word “I am God” nor “I am the second person in Trinity”, nor “I am human and divine”, but as I mentioned before, Jesus clearly said that the Father is the only God, and that He is his God, and that he doesn’t know the hour, …..etc. Christians say that he clearly declared his deity through lots of scriptures, I say actually he didn’t say it clearly, but all these are conclusions made, and by examining them, we find that they are not real. So let’s answer the Question: Did Jesus really say I am God? Comparison between Jesus and God showing that Jesus is NOT God “Before Abraham was born, I am!” This actually is not a proof that Jesus is God because he is eternal, because this language was present in the Bible, it only means that he was in God’s foreknowledge, the same as what said concerning Jeremiah and Paul: Jer 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee; I have appointed thee a prophet unto the nations. Eph 1:4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before him in love: The context also proves this when he said before: Joh 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; and he saw it, and was glad. Joh 8:57 The Jews therefore said unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Joh 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was born, I am. Jesus (Peace be upon him) meant here is that Abraham (Peace be upon him) rejoiced when he knew that Jesus (Peace be upon him) will be from his descendants, and this is clear through the word “my day”, he didn’t say:”when he saw me”, this clearly means that he meant that Abraham knew that he will be raised one day, so he was rejoiced for that day. The word “I AM” doesn’t claim divinity, anyone can say I am. The word “ego eimi” if it really meant Jehovah, it wouldn’t have been translated but it have been written Jehovah, especially when we see that the same word “ego eimi” was said by others: Some said, “It is he.” Others said, “No, but he is like him.” He kept saying, “I am the man.” (John 9:9) Is the beggar God? Of course not, but it actually means “I am the Messiah”, and this is very clear with what he said to the Samaritan woman: Joh 4:25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh (he that is called Christ): when he is come, he will declare unto us all things. Joh 4:26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. Which was said in other translation: (MKJV) Jesus said to her, I AM, the One speaking to you. This is a very clear proof that he didn’t mean to Jehovah by this word, and the context can show that as above. “I and the Father are one”: Well, this word in itself is not a proof that he claims divinity, for the unity can be unity in aim, for example what Jesus said concerning the disciples: Joh 17:22 And the glory which thou hast given me I have given unto them; that they may be one, even as we are one; Of course this verse doesn’t mean that they are one by body, but by aim and faith, it is the same also concerning John 10:30. Dr. Thomas Constable, a Christian commentator acknowledges this on his notes on John 10:30: “Jesus did not mean that He and the Father were the same person of the Godhead. If He had meant that, He would have used the masculine form of the word translated “one” (Gr. heis). Instead He used the neuter form of the word (Gr. hen). He meant that He and the Father were one in their action. This explanation also harmonized with the context since Jesus had said that He would keep His sheep safe (v. 28) and His Father would keep them safe (v. 29)……..First, Jesus’ claim to oneness does not in itself prove the Son’s unity in essence with the Father. In 17:22, Jesus prayed that His disciples might be one as He and the Father were one, namely, in their purpose and beliefs…….In short, this verse does not say that Jesus was claiming to be of the same essence as God. Here He claimed to function in union with the Father. However the context and other statements in this Gospel show that His unity with the Father extended beyond a functional unity and did involve essential metaphysical unity.” jesus-is-muslim.net/did-jesus-really-say-i-am-god/ 1 Like |

The problem with muslims who read the bible and come up with arguments like this is that they always choose to ignore further study but stick with one part. The bible says that after Jesus spoke those words, the Jews picked up stones to stone him because they said He was making Himself equal to God(john 5:18).They understood the meaning of what He said! They knew He meant I AM God,just as God said I AM when He spoke to Moses. So Op,tell me why they claimed he blasphemed? 1 Like |

thorpido: Ok the answer is this : Because .... Matthew 26:59 59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death Jesus Answered : John 10:34 34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? Check John 10:32 33 34 |

There are many gods, there is only One True God ,so the others are false gods. They didn't know Jesus was calling them false gods. Jesus the true God is smarter than they. |

LightIndarkness:You didn't understand Jesus' response. He called Himself God and they wanted to stone Him for calling Himself God.He then quoted their scriptures(the prophets)to convict them.If you go further to verse 36,He said God set Him apart and called Himself the Son of God. |
Re: Did Jesus Really Say I Am God? by bigwig97(m): 7:13am On May 06, 2015 |
Jesus is God, why am i saying this? check john 1; 14, it says "and the word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only son from the father." for this, we can clearly see that Jesus is the word. now check john 1;1, it says "in the beginning was the word and the word was with God, and the word was God." from this, since Jesus is the word, then "he was God". To Understand this, let me take the egg for example, we have the albumen(egg white), egg yolk and egg shell. all this parts can be individually refer to as egg. Take for example, you're eating the albumen, and i ask you 'what are you eating?', your reply will be 'egg' same also, we have God to have the father, the son and the holy spirit. clearly, Jesus is God the son. |

mustymatic:@bolded,there were prophecies that the jews and others will not believe him when He comes and that prophecy was fulfilled so jews are not followers because they walk in disobedience to God in fulfilment of prophecy. Only God has the power to forgive sins(1 Kings 8:39) yet Jesus said the Son of man(Jesus Himself) has power to forgive sins(Mark 2:1-12).Why would Jesus say He had such power to do what exclusively God could do? The Jews who listened to Jesus knew He called Himself God when He said,...' before Abraham was,I am.He could have said before Abraham was,I was which would have been correct grammatically but He wanted to express something different and He said I am.The Jews knew what He meant and that was why they wanted to stone Him. In John 8:23,Jesus said,' ye are from below,I am from above,ye are of this world,I am not of this world'.Can you explain to me what He meant by this statement? |

mustymatic: You are right to an extent in the sense that you quoted the right verses and gave their meanings, which I can say would fetch you like 40% . Unfortunately 40% is failure. In the Bible we have about 100 other verses that point to show who Jesus is .These must be combined and with the assistance of the Holy Spirit you will understand who Jesus is and true position. We know ,and the bible tells us ,that no man can see God and still be alive. In the same bible some people saw God and still lived. Which God did they see is the question we need to ask ourselves. Do you know that Abraham actually saw Jesus and spoke with him physically? Genesis 18:17-23, 26 KJV And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; [18] Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? [19] For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord , to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. [20] And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; [21] I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. [22] And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord . [23] And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? [26] And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. ............. To be continued. |

Jesus Is God - The Bible both proves and disproves this notion, contradiction. See why we have many denominations? Beliefs have to contradict because their anchor (the Bible) does to itself. 1 Like |

enilove: If you are trying to say that the "Lord" used there is Jesus and not the God of Israel then you've failed right from your beginning. The Hebrew name used for Lord their is Adonai, showing the lordship of the Israel God YHWH. It is equivalent to LORD, i.e YHWH, in origin but differs in its use. "Lord" is kind of a title. For better comprehension, I'm a Doctor but my real name is Ebenezer. Both Doctor and Ebenezer are pointing to the same person. But one is my real and the other is just a title. So take YWHW as Ebenezer and Lord as Doctor. Actually, Abraham saw God and lived, though God himself said no one could see Him and live afterwards. It's one of the many contradictions in the Bible. |

Pr0ton:the bible say God is a spirit, can a spirit walk in the realm of human without flesh? It was God himself that possessed the body of Jesus, both the quran and bible say Jesus is the spirit of God. When Jesus speak as a man, He did not want to comperd the nature of God and man, God possessed his body but God did not take control of his WILL as demon do. Luke 22:42 "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." |

thorpido: Jesus Is Not God: ‘he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father’(Matthew 26:39) Jesus spoke to a man who had called him ‘good,’ asking him, ‘Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.’(Luke 18:19) ‘he continued all night in prayer to God.’(Luke 6:12) Jesus Is God: Matthew 1:23- “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” John 14:9-11- Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?” 1 Like |

Pr0ton:You do not understand the bolded. @first bolded.Jesus is the Spirit of God.The Spirit of God is God.He was the 'sent' Spirit of God to the earth and took on the form of a man.He was man on the earth but still had His divinity. That was why He prayed that prayer to the Father, the One Who sent. @Second bolded.Jesus was the meekest and most humble man that ever graced the earth. His statement here was an expression of humility.Jesus is good but only expressed humility. |

Re: Did Jesus Really Say I Am God? by enilove(m): 11:36am On May 06, 2015 |
Pr0ton: Do you think God Almighty the creator of the heavens would come down and Adam would see him and live? No. Because your mindset ,that is why you will choose to see it as contradiction. The bible does not lie . When God created the heaven and the earth and it got to the creation of Adam God said : Genesis 1:26 KJV And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Who do you think God was speaking to in the above verse? Is that person not God also over Adam ?. God was actually speaking to Jesus Christ. This can be seen written in : Proverbs 8:22-36 KJV The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. [23] I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. [24] When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. [25] Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: [26] While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. [27] When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: [28] When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: [29] When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: [30] Then I was by him, as one brought up with him : and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; [31] Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. [32] Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. [33] Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. [34] Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. [35] For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord . [36] But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death. This book of Proverb was written about 2000 yrs before Jesus came. I want you to think properly and ask yourself who could that person that created the earth in the verses above be referring to and who was the person by His side? God the Father when He was creating the heaven and the earth had Jesus by His side. John 14:6 KJV Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 1:18 KJV No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. John 3:9-18 KJV Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? [10] Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? [11] Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. [12] If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? [13] And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. [14] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: [15] That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. [16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. [18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. It it only God that can forgive sin. This Jesus showed below: Matthew 9:4-7 KJV And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? [5] For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? [6] But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. [7] And he arose, and departed to his house. Jesus Christ is God, the Son of the Almighty God the Father and Creator of Heaven and earth. |

Problems and paradoxes abound. When Jesus arrived in Bethany to find that his friend Lazarus has died, he mourned: he groaned in the spirit, we are told, and he was troubled. Jesus suffered all-too-human grief, and, as it is reported in one of the most famous verses of the whole Bible, “Jesus wept.” But think that text through. Jesus wept, so Christ the anointed wept - and, therefore, are we to believe that God, the creator and source of all being, really wept? More sensationally, how, infact, had Christ suffered on the cross - had God really died? |

tayebest:Yea,it's so convenient to pick just one verse and conclude.Since you quoted from the book of John, why don't you look at this: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not(John 1). The Word is God and the Word was in the world(present physically). The Word also created the world. Did you see that in the bible you quoted? Can you explain what it means? |
Re: Did Jesus Really Say I Am God? by thorpido(m): 12:03pm On May 06, 2015 |
Rilwayne001:You ask these questions in the vanity of the human mind.As muslims you are quick to say Allahu Akbar which by your understanding means God is great. However you say this without the revelation of Who God really is.If indeed He is great, how come you want to question the enormity of His works. Jesus is first of all a Spirit-the Spirit of God.The quran accepts that His coming into the world was not of normal human procreation. He was born of God's Spirit(breath) in the womb of the mother Mariam. He however had to be a man physically on the earth to fulfill God's plan for mankind but at the same time He retained the divinity being born of God's Spirit. The things He did were done in the human body and that was why he had normal emotions and feelings as a human being and also explains His confessions in some scriptures. Now Jesus is in heaven, back in God(the Father's glory). Now He dwells in an inseparable God. |

thorpido: First, you said, "Jesus is the spirit of God. The spirit of God is God." This is what you are saying: Jesus = spirit of God = God Therefore, Jesus = God And then you said, "That was why He prayed that prayer to the Father, the One Who sent [Him]" So tell me, how does it add up to sense to say God sent Himself and prayed to Himself, since Jesus = God = Father? @Second bolded.Jesus was the meekest and most humble man that ever graced the earth. His statement here was an expression of humility.Jesus is good but only expressed humility. He wasn't only humble, He was one "whose mouth was found no guile". 1 Pt 2:22. Why then did He lie by refusing to be called what He was in order to show His humility? And what happened to the third verse? ‘he continued all night in prayer to God.’(Luke 6:12) |
