Dear Vo,thanks for your wonderful job here, please is it true that non immigrant visa gotten prior to marriage will be cancelled when my husband files for my immigrant visa,as he is a citizen and resident of the United States. I still want to be using my visa for vacations to visit my spouse pending the outcome of the immigrant visa. This has caused a delay in the filing,i got married here in Nigeria last year November, court, traditional and church wedding. I don't want my visa canceled. Kindly respond |

koskikun: The validity of the visa will match the validity of the medical report (both will expire on the same day), so the visa will be valid for approximately six months. |

bukolacole: Never too many questions! It's possible that the results arrived in our mailroom Wednesday -- but it can take several days for a family to be contacted about next steps. The mailroom has to sort through all the mail received by the whole Consulate and direct it all to the correct office. Then someone in that office has to sort the mail again and direct it to the correct person in the office. For DNA, at that point someone brings me 30 FedEx and DHL envelopes containing DNA kits and results. If there's not enough time left that afternoon, the next morning I sort through them, making note of the results. But I can't take any action without seeing the entire case, so then the results go to the team leads who pull the files, scan the results into the computer, and bring the files back to me. I go through each file to see what else needs to be done, and give the cases back to the team leads, who contact the families. Because we are also performing our other duties as all this happens, you can see why it sometimes takes a week for families to hear from us after we've received the results. 1 Like |

staa: No, that's not true. It's fine to use a previously-issued non-immigrant visa while an immigrant petition is pending. In fact, when we issue an immigrant visa to someone who holds a non-immigrant visa, that person can go ahead and travel on the non-immigrant visa before using the immigrant visa (as long as he or she intends to return to Nigeria). For instance, sometimes people want to attend a conference the next week, but they don't intend to immigrate until five months in the future. So they'd use their B1/B2 visa now, and wait to use their immigrant visa later. That's because immigrant visas are single-entry visas, so once they're used, they're gone. In most cases that's not a problem because the person using them becomes a Legal Permanent Resident or a citizen upon entry, but sometimes the person has a good reason to want to wait. |

Dear V O officer Gudevening ma' First want to use this opportunity to welcome you back from a wonderful time of celebration spent with your parents and family on there 50yrs of marriage together that's awesome,we all pray to get there too,and again once welcome back. Now concerning my case at the consulate, like I.have explain in my previous post,we av repeatedly email the consulate to either have a senior office review the case, but they keep letting us know that the case is considered close at the consulate that they will returned the petition back to uscis for review, but it's still at the consulate. Please madam we will really appreciate you use your good office to help us look into the case, because it's been like 8 months after my interview and anytime me or my wife email the consulate we keep getting different respond and sometimes confusing to us.we av tried what we could talk to who we think can help us get a proper clarification on our case,no avail. It's a hard journey already, not knowing anything about our case only that it will be returned,it is more of a heart broken and mentally, emotional stressing for us a family, please madam help us we 're going through alot. Hello Consular Officer, My wife of 4 yearspetitioned to bring me to the Us with her and the case was approved early last year. I was scheduled for an interview at d Lagos consulate and after answering series of questions the officer said he wasn't convinced I was the father of our 3 year old son who is also a US citizen so he instructed we do a DNA test to prove I was. We got in touch with the lab in the US, paid the fees and had the sample kit sent to the embassy. When your office received the kit they scheduled a sample collection date and I ensured my son was in the country to attend the sample collection with me. It took almost 6 weeks for the embassy to receive the results from the lab and after they finally did they said they needed to schedule another appointment for me but would take 30 working days. In between we contacted them and they kept saying they haven't scheduled a date. They finally called me today to schedule a 7am interview for the 15th of May which is next Friday and I wasn't asked to come with any supporting documents. Now I will like to find out if am going to be interviewed a second time or what exactly I am going for as I wasn't asked to bring any documents. Any help given would be greatly appreciated as the process has taken a while and in between my wife and son have had to be coming to Lagos just to keep the family bond as we can't stand to just be separated all this while. We really want to know what's going to happen next if it's just for the visa to be issued or it's another interview. Thank you very much. Regards |

wittfanintnig: Thank you for your good wishes. No case is returned for revocation without a senior officer's concurrence. I apologize for the delay in your case, which has passed through several layers of review, and will be returned to USCIS no later than next week. |

Thank you for your selfless services here on nairaland, our case was completed at NVC on 30th of last month, am wondering if we would still make it to the June interview? Is NVC still scheduling interviews for June? I am a spouse of a US LPR. And my case is current in June. I have seen several people get interview dates after my priority date. In other consulates not Lagos. Is Lagos embassy completely filled up for June? Thank you again. We have been waiting for so long. |
