I am planning to register for profession student of Ican soon, but I need clarity on some questions. Here they go: Firstly, assuming I'm doing professional student registration online after I have obtained Pin Voucher from either Zenith or Fidelity bank, does it require of me to upload any documents apart from passport during registration? Secondly, I saw this on ICAN site "IF YOU ARE USING TRANSCRIPT IN PLACE OF NYSC, SUCH TRANSCRIPT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED TO THE REGISTRAR/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF THE INSTITUTE", I finished school last year but I haven't yet been called up for NYSC. I only have my BSc degree certificate with me. Does it mean I can't register as professional student unless I supply my transcritps? And if so, does transcript have to be sent by school or must accompany my other credentials along ICAN print out? Thirdly, in reference with this "THREE SELF ADDRESSED ENVELOPES WITH N50. STAMP AFFIXED ON EACH OF THEM", does it mean I can get any envelopes regardless of its size, and then write my full address on it with stamp and send it along? Thanks as I anticipated your response. cc: isobayor, funkyjms |
Re: Ask Me Any Question At All As Regards ICAN Examinations & Prospect Of Accountant by funkyjms: 11:53pm On Jul 12, 2015 |
benebaby77: As at the last registration I did last month, NO. Except registration procedure has changed. You are to use the pin voucher to access the registration form, fill in the required data and upload a passport of 20kb maximum in size. Find a way to compress your passport. I wouldn't want to give a direct response to this because I'm only familiar with the NYSC certicate option. Certainly, I know your school will send your transcripts (of course, you have to process it) directly to ICAN and not you but I don't know how your other documents will finally "accompany" the sent transcript. Consequently, I'd advise you to visit ICAN offfice for clarifications or probably send a mail. Thirdly, in reference with this "THREE SELF ADDRESSED ENVELOPES WITH N50. STAMP AFFIXED ON EACH OF THEM", does it mean I can get any envelopes regardless of its size, and then write my full address on it with stamp and send it along? The smaller envelope is ok. In fact, just a stamped self addressed envelope was collected from me. I returned home with other two envelopes and stamps. |

funkyjms: Good morning. Please, I need clarifications on these questions: a) I qualify for exemption from AI but I am considering not taking it, is it permissible? b) When is the latest month I can register so as to be eligible to sit for the November diet? A prompt response from you (and other Nairalanders) would be appreciated. Thanks. |
Re: Ask Me Any Question At All As Regards ICAN Examinations & Prospect Of Accountant by funkyjms: 8:01am On Jul 13, 2015 |
stanley102: Very permissible and advisable. That will groom you up more. b) When is the latest month I can register so as to be eligible to sit for the November diet? Taking the time it will take for you to get registered and allocated a registration number into consideration, the time it will take for your exemptions to be approved and providing for uncertainties, you must have completed your registration at least three months before the exam date. That means you have to start your registration as early as possible. It is highly not advisable to be "battling" with registration during the exam eve. |

After getting the applicable exemptions, I wrote the May (Intermediate) and November (PE 1) diets in 2006 and passed. However, I have not been able to take the exams since then. Checks on my exam status revealed that the next papers to sit for are PM, MGE, PSAF. My concern? By next year, it would be 10 years that I had registered with ICAN. Does the 10-year limit/bar still apply? I was told by some members that you have 10 years to complete ICAN from the date of first registration, otherwise, a candidate would have to start all over again. The following was the response that I got from ICAN when i enquired on this issue via email; "Dear student, please visit the ICAN website and click on student, then click on check financial status, put your number and your status would come out. Then the level and subject you are to write would come up." Kindly clarify because I would love to write Nov 2015 diet and I don't want it to be an exercise in futility. Adesiji77: I don't think there's any better way to clarify more as it is self explanatory. Kindly visit an ICAN office for further clarifications. |

funkyjms: The clarification that I seek is on the supposed 10-year bar/limit. Does it exist or not? Thank you. Cc: isobayor |

Adesiji77: I'm not in a position to answer that because I don't know the stand regarding that as at now bearing in mind that the structure of the exam has changed. I repeat, kindly visit the nearest ICAN office or place a call to Customer Care for clarifications. |

funkyjms: Please, what material(s) would you advise I use to prepare for the foundation level? Tips as to where to get them would also be appreciated. God bless. |
Re: Ask Me Any Question At All As Regards ICAN Examinations & Prospect Of Accountant by funkyjms: 9:39am On Jul 14, 2015 |
stanley102: One of the materials I'd recommend is the ICAN study pack. I will task you to find out other materials/textbooks by liaising with other Foundation students. You can get some of them on this thread https://www.nairaland.com/1857862/ican-november-diet-2014-new/34 However, whatever materials/textbooks you wan' use, make sure it is a revised edition (latest.) This is because the syllabus, standards, requirements has changed. |

isobayor: Hi Sir, I registered as a student of ICAN since 2004 but did not write any exam after failing the ATS1 stage back then. Now I'm almost an affiliate of the ACCA as I'm awaiting the result of my final exams. Can I get ICAN membership with my ACCA status and is it necessary? Secondly, I would like to write the CITN exams to update my knowledge on the Nigerian tax system...will I get substantial exemptions with my ACCA status? Thirdly, just by the way, I get the impression ICAN is far tougher than the ACCA based on the numerous comments I read here...am I right to deduce this? Thanks. |

sir, i will like to know hw long it will take a married 38yr old father of 2 who has little knowledge in accounting to be an acc guru which will enable one to be able to comfortably sit for ican and the likes with full confidence. egearly anticipating your invaluable response. |
Re: Ask Me Any Question At All As Regards ICAN Examinations & Prospect Of Accountant by funkyjms: 7:36am On Jul 16, 2015 |
adonbilivit: The exemptions (and fees applicable) available to graduates of ICAN accredited institutions are different from those for graduates of non-accredited institutions. So, you have to establish if your institution was accredited. 2. must I register a d sit for all the course in professional level at the same time ? As an Accounting Graduate, it means that you'd be placed on Skill level. You can only register for courses in Skill. After you clear all, you can progress to the final level which is Professional. ademola721gmai:isobayor would be in a better position to advise you Sir. |
