Cuban MiG-23 shot down South African Mirage F1, and SAAF failed to down a single MiG-23.

Cuba won the air war, South Africa lost and resorted to air sorties that does NOT involve air to air combat.....cowards grin grin

Won what?

SAAF set in their jets standby during combat, when enemy fighters were detected they'd take off to intercept them.

Deep inside Angola.

Doctrine and training > Experience.

SAAF actually lacks both, no aviation fuel to even train.....All Gripen pilots fall short of standard qualification hours.

Means South Africa has NO SINGLE qualified jet fighter pilot today.

SAAF cannot deploy in any air combat role at all.

The SAAF is only qualified to fly V.IP. services, it's now the military version of South African airways

Let's go into detail.

SADF conscripts were in their early 20s.

Cuba sent 20 000 plus troops to Angola to deal with a force 3800 SADF and SWATF men.

Who's today going after SA trained soldiers to help them? cool cool cool cool cool cool

SADF had 4,000 troops including 1,000 foreign white-mercenaries and over 60,000 UNITA troops fighting and saving South Africa from the claws of Cuban teenagers army in Angola

Nigeria has no deployable air defence system.

The Nigerian military can't even put an air defence umbrella over land the size of Borno state. And maintain air space and traffic control.

Nigeria has 5 units of brand new 2010 versions of Thales moveable radar with 500 km range each, along with other radars.

NAF Plans 3 Additional Forwarding Base To Patrol Nigeria Airspace – Amosu
— May 7, 2015 5:58 pm | 0 Comments

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, on Thursday said that the Nigerian Air Force would establish more forwarding base for effective patrol of the nation’s airspace.

Amosu made this known when he briefed newsmen as part of activities marking the Nigerian Air Force 51st Anniversary in Abuja.

According to him, the NAF is expecting three more additional platforms that will be fitted with forward ‘infarite radar’.

He also said that ‘’the good news about the radar is that they can equally operate in the night.

We have already established some Forwarding Operation Bases (FOB) to complement the maritime end.

We have one FOB in Badagry, one in Mubi already established and we are still going to construct additional bases in Muguno.

“It will help us to position tact helicopters in those locations for effective border patrols.

“The maritime area is very vital and most people don’t pay attention there because those equipment they could be smuggling in to fight in the North-East could essentially come from the maritime area.

“So, we need to see what is going on there. How do we derive funding for the nation? It has to do with port activities and we need to pay attention to the maritime area.’’

He said since his assumption of office, NAF had been able to acquire more platforms to support the counter terrorism operations.

“We will keep on agitating for technology as soon as the operation is concluded.

“My recommendation is that we must be progressive because we have competitive demand for the scarce resources we have,’’ Amosu said.

He said “my dream for the NAF is to have sufficient platforms located in strategic locations so that when there is a distress call, the NAF will be there in 20 minutes.

“When we show up in the 20 minutes the land forces… will marry up.

“The NAF is a good force to invest on and you invest not so huge but the results are enormous.’’

The Air Force chief said the NAF had embarked on elaborate training of its personnel and also ensured that their barracks were well secured.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that The Nigerian Air Force was formally established on April 18, 1964 with the passage of the Air Force Act 1964 by an Act of the parliament.

The Act stated that the ‘Nigerian Air Force shall be charged with the defence of the Federal Republic by air, and to give effect thereto, the personnel shall be trained in such duties as in the air as well as on the ground.’ (NAN)

Sudan does not build anything electronically advanced, Nigeria is building satellites, we build robots, we build one of the best drones in Africa.

Nigerian navy has the biggest fleet in Africa after Egypt, and the only navy to ever build part of a modern stealth warship in Africa.

Nigerian navy has missile frigate and anti-submarine helicopters in reserve, not active because there is no need or threat.

South African navy has woken up to see that submarines are useless against the current threats existing in Africa, you now struggle to buy OPV when you are already broke.

Uganda has a better air force than South Africa, they have air to surface/anti-radar missiles, SAAF has NOTHING in the class of Uganda
.

Citation needed

Nigeria has Africas biggest fleet of speed-boats and patrol boats - no warships.

You cant hold naval vessels in permanent reserve - activation will take years.

South African navy is not a coast gaurd like Nigeria - SAN's primary duties are conducting naval warfare. Secondary duties are maritime patrol. South Africa is buying 3-4 brand new frigate sized OPV's... we would not do this if we were broke.

Uganda is not Nigeria... Uganda also does not have PGM's, Glide Bombs and stand-off munitions.
