The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, on Friday reopened the Nigeria Police Intelligence School in Enugu State abandoned a year ago. Arase said that the major thrust of his administration was to enhance intelligence driven-policing. According to him, the intelligence school has been shut for the past one year and once you cannot drive the internal security management through intelligence, then, you will be groping in the dark. "I am here to reopen our intelligence school. It has been something that I have been passionate about in the past two years since I was the head of the intelligence unit. "That has been one of my strategic plans and I am happy that it is now open. The police force cannot operate without intelligence,’’ he said. Arase reiterated his warning against mounting of road blocks in the country by the force, adding that it would henceforth hold Police Commissioners and Area Commanders responsible for violation of the order. The police boss said his administration would not tolerate undue detention of suspects in police cells. He, however, urged officers and men to always expedite investigation of cases for quick dispensation of justice and decongestion of cells. On welfare of the police, Arase said it was one of his priorities and promised to improve on it. It is reported that the intelligence school was inaugurated in 2013 by the former Inspector- General, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, but went into comatose after one year. Arase also paid a courtesy call on Gov. Sullivan Chime of Enugu State where he commended the state government for its contributions toward ensuring improved policing in the state. "We know that this is a transition period but we appeal to you to intimate your successor on ways to continue with the assistance to the police in the state. "Socio-economic development cannot take place where there is crisis,’’ he said. In his response, Chime congratulated the Arase on his new appointment. Chime decried the inadequate use of the heliport built by the state government for the Nigerian Police in the state. He said the heliport would ensure adequate security of the state and the entire South-East. The governor promised to continue to partner with the police even after leaving office. "Security is paramount to Enugu State and I am optimistic that the incoming administration will continue to maintain adequate security,’’ Chime said. It is reported that the Inspector-General of Police was accompanied by the Commissioners of Police from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo. source: m.news24.com/nigeria/National/News/IG-reopens-intelligence-school-in-Enugu-20150508 |
