The answer for number 2, should be dehydration of rust...pls confirm.
Fe2O4.H2O...H2SO4 is a good dehydrating agent...therefore it removes water from the rust.

The sulphate in the acid convert Iron(iii)oxide(base) into Iron(ii)sulphate(iron salt) and H2O: Fe2O3(base)+2H2SO4(acid) > 2FeSO4(salt)+3H2O(water). The water is removed when the part is cleaned but the Iron(ii)sulphate will adhere due to surface effects so that it does not wash away.
