oga henry I hv my reservations about us purchasin hardware frm d west especially nato countries wat if d turks decide nt to sell spare parts to us ?wat if america decides to veto d sale of hell fire missiles to nigeria? Wat will happen or wat will be d fate of these birds ur guess is as good as mine they wil end up in storage lik d sepecaqt jagz at the end of d day we will be left wit assets that we can't us instead wastin time on this helo y not b uy d mi 28 it is good ,d iraqis r usin to deadly effect against isis and remember it comes frm mother russia that means we don't hv to worry about purchasin spare parts and other things

The idea behind this purchase is to in corporate our attack Helicopters into our wider surveillance architecture. At the same time our survelliance plane "sees" it, it can be queued in real-time to our attack Helicopters to prosecute the objective.

Turkey is a Nato member that buys, not patriort missiles from the U.S but HQ-9's from China.

The Turks also sold the Nigerian Army 209 Otokar cobras. We also bought a significant number of interceptor boats from them, including a small vessel gifted the Nigerian navy. It shows we've been doing business with them without hitches.

Agusta, we fly many Agusta brands for both military and civilian use in Nigerian. The Nigerian Air force flies 12 A109's, the Navy has 6 A109e's and 2 AW139 Helicopters. Cavernton and Bristow in the civilian side fly even more of these. Agusta also have a maintainace complex withing Cavernton facility in lagos.

So Availability, spares and maintainace in theory should be no problem giving our good relationship dealing with both Italy and Turkey.

We would not get Hellfire missiles, we don't also need them. Turkey has a vast arry of PGM/ ATGM's/munitions we can get.

Unfortunately, the MI-28N doesn't fit into the Nigerian Airforce's capabilities plan. We also have additional MI-35m's coming in from Russia.

I'm happy with the prospects of the NAF fileding this Helicopter. Not only does it shoot well, it is battle tested and has charming looks to go with it.

I'm happy with this chioce.

First, Turks purchased the missiles from China as they were significantly cheaper and the chinese offered a tech transfer*
*guess who will be interested in the technology (the rest of NATO)

Second, the T129 uses the LHTEC CTS800-4N engine - this is only found on the Super Lynx and AW159 Wildcat of which Nigeria has neither.

Third, it is not combat tested and has not even seen extensive production yet.

Fourth, this is all speculation.

Nope.

Pointing out the following:

- it does not have the parts commonality you suggested
- it is not combat tested
- it has not even been mass produced
- its acquisition is speculation

Has nothing to do with bias. It has everything to do with correcting your incorrect statements.

If Nigeria were buying the Z-10, Ka-50, Mi-28, Tiger or one of the plethora of American helo's I wouldnt have much negative to say.

But the T129?

Its a light weight recon helo, with limited range and weapons load, no combat testing, limited operational testing AND Nigeria would the last in line to get your hands on one since the turks have another 30 or so to produce to complete their own domestic order.

I did not suggest it has a parts commonality. My point is on the extensive usage of Agusta Helicopters in Nigeria.

It is combat tested you fool!!

Speculation, the CAS comments are very clear.

We would have to wait and see.

Integrate those with a laser rangefinder with imbedded digital compass, GPS and a fire directing system and you have a potent, simple accurate guided -well, almost wink - mortar system, as purchased from Denel by Germany, France, Spain, the UK, and others.

To paraphrase Eeben Barlow, "Africa has become the dumping ground for obsolete [Cold War relics and ] equipment, bought on bad advice[and charlatans looking to make a quick buck].
Intercepted on the weekend in the Beni area, DRC by a unit of "quiet professionals" cool acting on actionable intel, dozens of these similar scopes. Best in the world in the '60s, each scope was inscribed with a matching serial number to a Dragunov sniper rifle by the NPZ factory. The Cryllic writing means they failed factory quality controls and were only meant for training. Yet someone has been flogging them, and some fool purchased this obsolete crap. Now the hunt is on for the rifles.

both picture of super pumas indicates NAF 565 and NAF 567,
meaning the pumas were repainted,
i thought the ones in the second picture were newly commission super puma that were commissioned together with the gazelle helicopter in Lagos.

Nope, in addition to the Alpha Jets, NAF also flies the L-39ZA and MB-399 amerrachi for trainer light attack role. They are all used for COIN operations.

Photo 2 is NAF beechcraft light transport.

Yep, the last photo is soldiers sitting on the door way of NAF's Super- Puma Helicopter.

However, I wish the photo was taken from this angle ( photo1).

NAF carried out up-grades on these helicopters, with Rocket pods visible on NAF 567.

Of our fleet of Super-Puma's, 6 - 8 are operational and at-least 2 of them got an upgrade.

We have around 8 Gazelle Helicopters in service, 3 of them are visible in that photo. The Gazelles are NAF's only new Helicopter types.

Oga henry hw many C-130s do we have operational now. I was at the Lagos airport about a fortnight and i could count btw 7 and 8 transport planes in the grey colour scheme parked at the airport. Was i mistaking the G222 for the C130?

why then has alpha and F-7 jets being the only one seen in forward operating bases, also why are not seeing any close air support or air interdiction bombing being carried out from this surveillance footage

NAF has 6 C-130s ( 3 stretch variant and 3 standard variants) operational, from a fleet of 8.

NAF also has 6 G-222s in service. All of them operational.

I don't think i would mistake one for another in daylight, but a night....... that's a totally different ball game.

That's because of all the Airbases currently supporting COIN operations in the North-East, only those from maiduguiri have been shown to the public. Only very limited and restricted images have been released from maiduguri.

Airbases supporting COIN operations in Nigeria:

Maiduguiri, Borno state
Air force base yola, adamawa state,
Kanji in Niger state
Tactical air command, benue state
Kaduna Airforce base, kaduna state
Kano Airforce base
Jos, plateau state (limited).

So of all seven (7) air bases currently supporting COIN operations, only maiduguiri has pictures available.

It means nobody from the public knows what actual assets are deployed where and when or in what numbers.

Picture, Nigerian L-39 displaying rocket pods.

The insurgents are fleeing because they are been engaged. That surveillance video doesn't tell the whole story.

On the other hand, the surveillance video is the reason why the Nigerian Airforce says it needs the TAI T-129 attack Helicopter for it's network enabled combat capability program.

Co-ordinates can be queued in faster with that capability.
