by friday, i think some players in d squad to d last ayc are certain to make it 2 d wc but about 8 players slot seem likely contestable. people like ojo, saheed, alfa, nwobodo -injury, jimoh, saleh & pyagbara to be taken by ndidi, nwakali, sokari, success, iheanacho, simon, saviour & adamu. |

safarigirl: Barring any injuries, Sokari WILL DEFINITELY MAKE IT and even start most of the matches sef! Who wan bench am before?..abi na Alfa? Dude has been an instant hit with all the coaches he's met. From keshi..to Siasia..to Manu Garba. Once again... Sokari will start and saviour will still be benched. Flankwise, he can't bench yahaya or iheanacho/Moses simon/bulbwa and he can't start ahead of Awoniyi, Success or iheanacho. Don't get me wrong oh..Saviour Godwin is an exceptional player oh but I think he's better as an impact sub. All-in-all...the coaches know best as they've the opportunity of monitoring him up-close for an extended length of time. My humble opinion though. 1 Like |

Nwakali rejoins Manchester City for pre-season Flying Eagles midfielder Chidiebere Nwakali has said he will rejoin Manchester City for pre-season training in the summer. The 18-year-old Nwakali has been shipped out on loan to Spanish La Liga side Malaga, but he told AfricanFootball.com he will return to his parent club for preparations for the new season. “I was part of City’s pre-season last season, but injury stopped me from being fully involved. However, I will again be part of the pre-season this summer,” he said. Flying Eagles hopefuls up against Hoffenheim Several hopefuls will be given a chance by coach Manu Garba to stake a claim for a place on his final 21-man squad for the U20 World Cup in Tuesday’s test game against the Hoffenheim U23 team. The match will be played from 3pm local time, which is 2pm Nigerian time, at the Hoffenheim sports ground. The Flying Eagles will make the two-hour bus ride from Nurnberg to Hoffenheim from 11am local time. The team are spending a second week in training camp in southern Germany with the likes of Godwin Saviour and Kingsley Sokari, who were not part of the African Youth Championship-winning squad in March, impressing thus far. Musa Yahaya, who missed the AYC in Senegal due to a knee injury, has also recovered fully, while Genk of Belgium central Wilfred Ndidi has joined up with the squad. The African champions are also slated to take on Nurnberg U23s on Friday and Freiburg U23s on May 19. Nigeria are to announce a final squad for the World Cup in New Zealand on Friday. They are pitched against five-time champions Brazil, North Korea and Hungary in the first round of the competition, which kicks off on May 30. 1 Like |

Moses Simon Confirms Flying Eagles Arrival Date Gent (Belgium) fan-favourite, Moses Simon, has confirmed his arrival date to the camp of the Flying Eagles ahead of the FIFA Under-20 World cup in New Zealand. The 19-year-old speed ace who is in line for the best player of Africa origin award, popularly called the Ebony award, is expected in camp on the 25th of May after his team last playoff game against Anderlecht. SL10.ng learnt that Gent spoke with the team handlers of the Flying Eagles directly to ask for Simon to be allowed to play in all of their playoff games as they currently top the standings and losing him might jeopardise their chances of lifting the Belgium league title. Satisfied with the explanation given to them by the Belgium side, the Garba-led technical crew will include the forward in their 21-man list for the Championship expected to be submitted on the 15th of May as they are satisfied and are abreast with his form and fitness. However, Simon is expected to leave Belgium in the night after their last game against Anderlecht and should arrive the camp in the morning of 25th of May just like his fellow Belgium-based player, Wilfred Ndidi, did yesterday. No player is certain of Flying Eagles World Cup spot - Kingsley Sokari Super Eagles midfielder, Kingsley Sokari, has stated that no player is guranteed a place and all have to work hard to earn a spot in coach Manu Garba's final 21-man list for the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup in New Zealand which begins on May 30. Sokari, who was a member of the bronze-winning Super Eagles at the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa in January 2014, admits there is stiff competition within the team that is presently camped in Germany, but promised to work hard enough to derserve a spot. "It was not an easy task for me to make the team to Germany with the crop of players here. Despite [the fact that] I've played for the senior national team it is not like I have an automatic shirt," Enyimba's Sokari told Goal . "I had to work hard and [even] harder to make the team to Germany. [I give] all thanks to God for being among the 30-man list for the training tour in Germany. "For now, nobody is yet to know who is going to make the final list. So we are all working hard to make the final 21-man list." The two-time Federation Cup winner with Enyimba thanked the coaching crew of the Flying Eagles for the opportunity to make the 30-man provisional list for the U20 World Cup scheduled to hold from May 30 to June 20. "I want to thank the technical crew and everyone for selecting me for the trip to Germany," he said. "For now, we have a lot of midfielders [and] some who have played for the team for years - some at the U17 level and U20 even at the Caf U20 Championship and now the World Cup. They are still playing in the team. "It will be a very big fight for me to just come and start playing in the team. So I need to work harder to prove myself and earn my place. "I'm not scared at all of the competition within the team, but I'll do my best and leave the rest to God," he concluded. Sokari will be hoping to impress coach Manu Garba during the three friendly matches in Germany with the first against Hoffenheim U23 team on Tuesday afternoon. Manu Garba is expected to submit his 21-man final sqaud list on Friday, May 15. 1 Like |

Lucumi on a mission for Cali and Colombia For any young player making their way in the game, one of the hardest things to come to terms with is the difference in pressure between professional and youth football. Up and coming Colombia striker Jeison Lucumi knows all about that. Having played a big part in firing his country to the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015, Lucumi is trying to help national heavyweights America de Cali recover the top-flight status they lost in 2011, a task he is relishing nonetheless, as he explained to FIFA.com. “Playing for a big club and performing well for them has helped me an awful lot,” said the Cafetero No11. “I’ve gained valuable experience, I’m getting plenty of playing time and I’m not afraid to roll my sleeves up and push them team on if the situation dictates. It’s given me confidence and I’ve taken that with me into my international career.” That international career will shortly see Lucumi appear in his first FIFA World Cup competition in New Zealand, where Colombia will take on Qatar, Senegal and Portugal in Group C. His side’s leading scorer in Colombia’s run to the runners-up slot at the South American U-20 Championship, the kid they call Lucumo believes they have every reason to be optimistic when the world finals get under way. “We’ve got a solid foundation at the back, where we know how to defend and stay true to our identity as a team,” he explained. “We need to be more mobile up front, because when we are it makes life a lot easier for us. The talented young Colombian, who struck four goals in the qualifiers, added: “We’re going there with the idea of winning the trophy. We’re working hard and we know what our strengths and weaknesses are.” A match-winner with the ability to hurt the opposition with his searing diagonal runs, Lucumi is already being tracked by a number of European clubs. Despite his burgeoning profile, however, he remains grounded and is putting the team before any personal glory. “Everyone tells me to keep my feet on the ground and not to think about things that won’t help me,” he said. “When I visit my friends back home, they tell me, ‘Don’t get too big for your boots!’. I’m working hard so I can do the best I can for my teams, not for me personally. And if my teams do well, then so much the better for everyone.” Grandma said… Lucumi’s grandmother is one of his most trusted advisors, for a very good reason: “She’s not a great football fan but when I lived with her and wanted to start training, she went out and found a team for me.” And so it was Lucumi started out in the game, at the tender age of four, playing at the Marroquin II football academy in the district of Aguablanca, in eastern Cali, and then moving on to a number of youth teams. Then came three seasons with Boca Juniors de Cali, and though things did not go his way there, he kept working hard on his game and nurturing his dreams. A big English Premier League fan, he is a great admirer of Wayne Rooney: “He’s a fighter and he’s very direct. He carries the team and gives everything he has.” Lucumi’s big break came at the age of 16, when he made his Colombian second division debut with Depor FC and was subsequently spotted by America de Cali, who took him on loan. He has stayed there ever since. “I’ve been playing in the second division since I was 16,” he explained. “I wouldn’t have done that if my coaches hadn’t given me confidence.” Unpredictability is an integral part of Lucumi’s game, to the extent that it is hard to tell if he is naturally left- or right-footed. “My right is my stronger foot,” he confirmed with a smile. “I learned to use both by playing futsal. In training, Piscis (Colombia’s U-20 team coach Carlos Restrepo) always stresses how important it is to finish with quality.” Quality is something Lucumi has in abundance, having started out as a playmaker, though he has now been deployed elsewhere: “When I began in the second division, they played me at full-back or out wide. Now I’m more of a wide man or forward.” More than a game With his pace and ability to get past people, the slender Lucumi is an obvious outlet for club and country. “I don’t know if I’m a go-to man for America and the U-20 national team but I do know what role I have to play for both sides,” he said before explaining that he likes to keep out of the limelight. “I’m getting used to it bit by bit I suppose, but I don’t like being in the media that much. I prefer to keep a low profile.” When he is not driving opposing defences to distraction, Lucumi likes to play dominoes with his cousins and friends or hang out with his eight brothers and sisters. “I love Playstation too,” added the rising Cafetero star, who has only just turned 20. “I’m always Real Madrid. I haven’t played myself yet because it would be a bit strange. I’d put myself up front if I could, though.” Given the trail blazed by fellow countrymen James Rodriguez, Juan Cuadrado and Radamel Falcao, could Lucumi be playing for a European giant for real one day rather than on EA SPORTS™ FIFA 15? “They’re great players and they’ve shown just how much talent they’ve got,” he said of his esteemed compatriots. “They’ve opened the way for us, for the ones who are coming through. “It’s a really tough challenge but I think I’ve got what it takes and I’m working towards that goal. Time will tell, but what I want to achieve first of all is to help America get back to the top flight in Colombia." |

Manu: Hoffenheim Will Test Our Technical Abilities As they take on the U23 side of TSG Hoffenheim today in a friendly, Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba says he’s relishing the prospect of facing the German Bundesliga club. The Nigerian U20’s have been in Nurnberg (Germany) for over a week and will now have their first tune-up game and Manu talks about what he expects: “This is one of the reasons we came to Germany because we knew we would get some quality friendly matches,” he said. “This type of friendly against the German team will definitely improve us for the World Cup. We expect them to show some technical and tactical dexterity which is exactly what we want and I believe they will be a good test for the boys. “Most of them have only played against African teams so they understand the physical aspect of the game but we need them to also understand the technical and tactical aspects better and it is something we have been working on.” Asked if it will be about winning for him, he said he’d rather prefer to see a better team cohesion and understanding from his players, but added that a win would be a bonus. “It’s not about winning, but to see how ready the boys are and how they can cope against technical and tactical teams. If we win it will be a bonus but we just want to see team cohesion and understanding.” 1 Like |

Flying Eagles Give Success 72 Hours Grace Granada's Isaac Success might be omitted from Nigeria final 21-man list for the World Youth Championship unless his team communicates back to handlers of the Flying Eagles in the next 72 hours. While the technical crew are willing to include Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho and Gent’s Moses Simon in their final 21-man list base on their form for their clubs they are uncertain about Isaac Success who has not played for Granada in the last two weeks. The team are also angered by the blackout they have received from Granada, who are yet to reply to any of the series of mails and reminders sent to them by the Flying Eagles. Although Success trained last week with Granada there are reports that he is nursing a slight ankle pain although his representatives have since dispelled such fears. However, his case is not being helped by the good form of Saviour Godwin who might be considered as Success’s replacement if the Granada forward fails to communicate to the team by Thursday the 14th of May – one day to the deadline for submission of the final list by teams. On his part, Saviour Godwin of Plateau United might still make the team but his chances will be brightened if he puts up a commanding performance in today's friendly against the B team of Bundesliga side Hoffeinheim.
