Henry120: He has been reduced to the truth? We have seen this before: - Tucano - T80 Oplot - Su30 - JF-17 - FH-77 B05 L52 - Missile Armed OPV Nothing now, this debate is simply academic 1 Like |

patches689: -Tucano, originally evaluated and dropped. -T80 Oplot, 2 examples exported to Nigeria for evaluation. - SU-30, still under evaluation - JF-17, Pakistani Airforce chief said Nigeria wanted 1-2 squadrons. - FH-77, an error, later corrected. - missile armed OPV, OPV's feature an open architecture and can be easily armed. 4 Likes |

agaugust: That is not the gatling gun on a T-129. Why dont you post a video of the 1st gatling gun built in the 1900's? Can we also say Rooivalk fires "12 × 20 mm caliber " rounds if it fires 12 rounds a second? You thought T-129 fires 3 bullets at one go. You ran to the internet to correct yourself. |

patches689: All autocannons have the same limitation, except you can prove yours is a genius invention of science. The mere fact that you don't even know about the overheating of autocannons and guns in general, call to question your level of knowledge about these systems. If the F2 was so wonderful that it doesn't overheat, then the Eurocopter Tiger used by the French (the original manufacturers of the F2), would be using the F2 and not the superior GIAT 30 cannon in chin turret(used on the Rafales). The apache longbow still has this limitation, talkless of the Rooivalk. Like seriously So you would actually advice your helicopter to loiter in combat when the enemy could fire anti-aircraft missiles. Did you just say that Rooivalk is combat tested? Against Seleka rebels fighting with hoes and cutlasses. Ignorance is bliss, no wonder you equate military participation to the number of dead soldiers. 3 Likes |

patches689: T-129 has current war experience in Turkey against PKK rebels who are more powerful than M23. Rooivalk needed partnership with European MI-35 Hinds to do one lone combat in Congo DRC. T-129 is on it's job without foreign from Ukrainian air force Hind helicopter. The T-129 can carry 3 guns, one 3 barrel Gatling on nose, and extra two gun pods on wings. Your Rooivalk is still stuck with only one gun with one barrel. Rooivalk CANNOT fire one single guided rocket, all it's pod of rockets fire dumb munition, many shots wasted to get one kill on a moving target T-129 carries 4 laser guided pods with many precision guided rockets, one shot, one kill on moving target Obsolete Rooivalk, ultra-modern T-129. The T-129 will fire 10 laser precision guided rockets and kill 10 high speed mobile targets one after the other without sweat, the Rooivalk will need to struggle with many wasted rockets to kill one target, then repeates the same slow process and wasteful process 10 times, by the time T-129 has gone back home to base, the Rooivalk is still struggling to hit target, most of whom have escaped at high speed. T-129 firepower is a clear winner over the Rooivalk, we are only having this debate because South Africans don't mind saying the earth is flat and not round, as long as it makes them sleep peacefully at night, self-delusion is always your pleasure. Congrats ! PHOTO : T-129 CARRIES MANY OF THIS LASER GUIDED PRECISION ROCKET....NO RIVAL . 2 Likes

xwolverine: It might have something to do with the Fact that the F2 is a 20mm autocannon and the GIAT 30 is 30mm |

xwolverine: 1. All weapons systems overheat. Your problem is that you imply that overheating is an endemic for the 20mm F2 autocannon as it is for the 30mm M230. Two different systems - two different capabilities and operational limitations. 2. Seleka rebels were as well equipped as the PKK 3. T-129 has as of yet seen no actual combat whatsoever |

xwolverine: Is that what I said? I equate combat with dead soldiers. Niger and Cameroon are employing aggressive maneuvers and taking the fight to Boko Haram - high mobility high intensity operations designed to corner and engage boko haram formations. Suffering casualties is inevitable. As apposed to the Nigerian army, slow and cumbersome operations, a lack of mobility and aggression. You allow Boko Haram to melt away as you are more obsessed with territory than with engaging rather than engaging enemy formations. And as I said, look at the causalty figures for Veitnam v Iraq/Afghanistan - even when you factor in the different sizes of the deployments, my argument still holds. 1 Like |

patches689: They suffer more casualty because of lack of air frames (Gazelles, Super Pumas, Hinds, Alpha Jets and so on), MRAPS, T-72 tanks unlike Nigeria. Where is the sense in sending your troops bare chested to face boko-haram, without a common ballistic helmet and kevlar vest, because the Chadian army don't have these; and the Cameroonians too, apart from the BIR guys. The approach of the Cameroonians and Chadian has a name, its called stupidity. Why should I send my infantry men into battle without aerial cover from hinds, without MRAPS to avoid an ambush or stepping on land-mines? Just like seat belts, Kevlar vests actually saves lives. Its not a fashion statement to wear one. patches689: And you know the cumbersomeness of the Nigerian Army because you have a magic ball showing their speed at every given point in time. "Slow and cumbersome operations", and you know this because you are on ground and part of the operations. 1 Like |

agaugust:Yes, the 7.62mm round is powerful than 5.56mm rounds. A person won't drop immediately if hit by a 5.56mm round. But what the 5.56mm offers is that troops are able to carry more ammo. 7.62 were used in battle rifles after WW2 like FN FAL and AK-47, today it is mostly used by sf. |

patches689:The Rooivalk GI-2 20mm canon is capable of penetrating some tanks like the T-55(most used MBT in Africa). But heavy armoured vehicles will be sliced open by rockets or ATGMs. |
