Hmmm.... My heart goes out to the families of the victims.

This is the reason why people who can afford it should defend themselves and own a gun . Nigeria is a country where if one dies, he dies for nothing. Justice is very expensive and rare! I have witnessed a lot of these cases where a man is killed or molested and the aggressor is left to roam free. If you have money you can buy the police and some few judges. Last year I was following a case of a young man in Lagos who robbed and raped two girls in the same family. He left the mother because she was menstruating. Fortunately they identified him and he was arrested. The Lagos police command was treating the case as a robbery case and was about to charge to court when the AIG took it over and was negotiating settlement with the family. The family was crying for justice!

Wale Omole is still powerful and in the corridors of power...he should be made to explain his role in the loss of innocent vibrant lives.

Though the war on cultism is being won in our universities it has spilled over to the outside and growing like cancer. The culpable people should be brought to justice

If we miss the opportunity of of another new regime to clean up this time, Nigeria is doomed forever and ever!

Never gets old... Legendary stuff! Fòols only succeeded in immortaling the victims. Now we all know Iwilade, Eviano, etc. forever.

Glory to them!

Phew! *heaves a sigh of relief* The day I ran like Ben Johnson into the thick, dark forest of OAU without thinking of the danger ahead. I mean what other danger can be brutal as the one I was running away from. Now 16 years and it seems like yesterday. May their soul rest in peace. I just hope Faro and Legacy are doing great. They both escaped death by a whisker.

Dr 3As of OAU IFE, is that you? I mean is this your Nairaland moniker?

Awon eeyan niyen. Ekun!

Where are you now and how are you doing? grin

That event turned OAU around buh its sardonic some people had to lose their lives.

Now in OAU, woe betides anyone with the slightest trace of cultism, infact no student dares raise a hand against another.

Conscious ife!
Great ife!

Iwilade and co paid the ultimate price that every OAU student is enjoying now. Conscious effort is being made to celebrate these guys every July 10 and I believe more can still be done. Their sacrifice made Great Ife a save haven that it is today, it's the only school in Nigeria where you can walk anywhere at anytime without you having any fear of intimidation or harassment. What George Iwilade stood for won't die.

Please anything You dont know, dont say it..!

Iwilade did his best anf We all like him for that. RIP to him..

But OAU is NOT the Only school you can walk anytime without you having any fear of intimidation or harassment.. For Example, In the school I attend (FUNAAB) We FUNAABITES walk anytime of the day and night and we are not confronted!

And I am sure there are other Federal schools in Nigeria that allow their students to walk anytime of the night!

CUltism in unis are like ogboni cos they have patrons and matrons, who could be profs, politicians or the elites.

Reminds me of the June 12 building case in uniben

Those were the days when MEN were in school

obviously there was tension or something going on in the years leading up to 1999.

there is nothing unusual about walking anywhere on campus at anytime. The states of emergency some folks are describing, must have been in the immediate years before the killings.

Most OAU students would not know what some people here (who probably never attended the school) are talking about

The events of that day are still vivid in my mind, NTA news carried that news including students prosession with the coffins of their dead colleagues, my mum cried uncontrollably that night, putting herself in the shoes of the parents of the slain students. I was in SS2 then, that was how my dream to study at OAU crashed.
From my observations now, cultism isn't as strong as it was in those days, na ajebo full schools these days
