If the recent report is believed, Moses might be axed to accomodate Godwin... Moses has not been a part of the team, Iheanacho and Success have.

To be fair, the foreign clubs did not give these lads enough time to blend with the team. Moses and Success in camp would have made the camp exciting.

Well let us wait for the final list before deliberating.

What of Chidera Ezeh? The two journalists squad lists posted on the thread tipped Ezeh to lose his place in the squad.

That will be sad because he might have stayed at FC Porto and arrived late for an automatic shirt.

I will feel disappointed if Chidera Ezeh or Godwin Saviour gets axed and Success arrives late in campand makes the team.

Fingers crossed. My disappointment will not mean I do not trust the judgement of the Coaching crew.
honestly, I wouldn't want chidera eze to be axed, I will be so disappointed.... D guy seems to have developed well

At the end, Coach Manu Garba and his crew brought them this far. The coaching crew are more attached to these boys than us. Whatever decision they take will be the best for the team.

This will be a tough heart breaking process because these guys are like family.

All the best to the Coaching crew of the Flying Eagles and may God grant them wisdom.

How The Flying Eagles Demolished Hoffeheim U23

Taiwo Awoniyi fired a second-half hat-trick as the Flying Eagles smashed past Hoffenheim U23 team 5-2 in a test match on Tuesday.

The African champions created the more chances and could even have won by a bigger score, but for some poor finishing.

Kingsley Sokari stamped his authority in midfield, skipper Musa Muhammed and Mustapha Abdullahi powered down the flanks from their fullback positions and the guile and power of Chidera Ezeh and Godwin Saviour troubled the opponents’ defence early on.

Hoffenheim, who feature in the German fifth league, took the game to the Nigeria U20s from the blast of the whistle.

They forced goalkeeper Joshua Enaholo to make a desperate save in the sixth minute from a swift counter after Ezeh failed to make hay from a one-on-one situation.

Saviour and skipper Muhammed also came close as the Flying Eagles came into the game.

Their endeavour was deservedly rewarded in the 24th minute when Saviour opened scoring off a rebound by the lively Bernard Bulbwa.

However, Hoffenheim drew level three minutes later courtesy of a well-taken free kick at the edge of the box by Abruscia Alessandro.

The game really opened up after the interval when Ezeh put the Junior Eagles ahead for the second time when he fired home a loose ball in the 45th minute.

Ten minutes later, Bulbwa missed a sitter, before Awoniyi replaced Ezeh on the hour.

But it was Hoffenheim who restored parity in the 63rd minute when Azaouagh Ahmed slotted home after a co-ordinated attack.

Thereafter it was the late Awoniyi show.

He scored his first goal in the 72nd minute when he was released by the adventurous Wilfred Ndidi and two minutes later he was denied by the giant goalkeeper Cymer Ricco from point-blank range.

He then missed a sitter in the 80th minute before he made up for these misses with clinically finished goals in the 88th and 90th minutes.

Flying Eagles vs Hoffenheim

Joshua Enaholo – Musa Muhammed (Skipper), Mustapha Abdullahi, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Ifeanyi Matthew, Zaharadeen Bello, Bashiru Monsoru (Wilfred Ndidi 18), Bernard Bulbwa (Musa Yahaya 75), Kingsley Sokari (Akinjide Idowu 90), Chidera Ezeh (Taiwo Awoniyi 60), Godwin Saviour

Obuh: F/Eagles Can Beat Brazil

Former Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh has declared that South American giants, Brazil, are not invincible, stressing that if Manu Garba’s boys put behind whatever they have achieved right from U-17 level, they can shock the Samba Boys in New Zealand.

“I don’t believe in statistics, the fact that Nigeria has not beaten Brazil at competitive U-20 level before does not scare me at all”, starts the former Golden Eaglets handler.

“I remember that in 2013 during the Touloun Tournament in France, we beat them 2-1 so why can’t the Flying Eagles do same this time around.

“I have never hidden my love and admiration for this Flying Eagles team, they have the potential, they have the quality and given the technical input of the coaches, support of the (NFF) Federation and prayers of Nigerians, I’m confident they will soar high in New Zealand”, Obuh who is Gabros FC adviser said.

Nigeria has not won a game or scored against Brazil at the U-20 level since 1983, conceding nine goals in four meetings that includes a scoreless draw in the Netherlands in 2005.

Obuh reckons that if the Flying Eagles can put their heads down and put behind their achievements in the U-17 and U-20 levels since 2013, they will go far in the New Zealand showpiece.

“This team has jelled well, right from the Golden Eaglets level when they won the FIFA U-17 World Cup and the U-20 level when they won the AYC trophy.

“But if they can put those records behind and avoid being complacent, I see them going far in the championship”, he stressed.

Asked at what stage the team can reach in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand, Obuh said what is important is for the team to qualify from their group.

“After that, they can take it from there”, the former Enugu Rangers gaffer said.

NFF promises regular courses for Eagles Coaches, Others

The Nigeria Football Federation has affirmed that it will make necessary efforts to ensure that coaching courses are much more regular in the country, in order for the country to boast of enough trained coaches within the next couple of years.

NFF 1st Vice President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi made this pledge on behalf of the NFF President, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, at the opening ceremony of the CAF –C License Coaching Course in Abuja on Tuesday.

“This NFF administration is committed to fostering rapid development of all areas of the Nigeria game, be it refereeing, coaching or administration. We have taken a number of steps to enhance the capacity of referees, and we have also taken a number of coaches to capacity –building programmes in the United Kingdom.

“Let me make it clear that we are committed to ensuring that our country has thousands of trained coaches within the next couple of years. We will make coaching courses more regular and of course, the training can be doned simultaneously, in such a way that as we are here having one in Abuja, we can be having similar courses in Kaduna, Lagos, Enugu and wherever.”

Also at the opening ceremony were vice chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, Alhaji Yusuf Ahmed Fresh, NFF Executive Committee member Ahmad Muazu Kawu and NFF Deputy General Secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme.

Over 80 coaches are attending the two –week course, holding at the FIFA Technical Centre, Package B of the National Stadium, Abuja. Former Super Eagles’ Coach and ex-FIFA Technical Advisor Adegboye Onigbinde, one-time NFF Technical Director Kashimawo Laloko, former Eagles’ Coach James Peters and in-coming NFF Technical Director Shuaibu Amodu are among instructors at the programme.

FIFA Technical Advisor (Refereeing) Linus Mba, former NFF General Secretary and CAF instructor Bolaji Ojo-Oba, Director of Sports Medicine at the National Sports Commission Abdulkadir Muazu and NFF Deputy General Secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme will speak on refereeing, administration, sports medicine and psychology respectively.

All participants will undertake practical and theory examinations at the close of the course. The NFF held a first-ever CAF C-License coaching course between September and October 2011, and followed up with a second one in April 2014. The Federation also organized two CAF B-License programmes in March 2012 and September 2012.

Former international players Bright Omokaro, Ishaya Jatau, Mike Onyemachara, Hussein Alabi, Haruna Hadi, Edith Agoye, Jimoh ‘Tyson’ Balogun and Akin Olowookere are among those taking the course.

If Alfa does not make the team, this will probably be the last that is heard of him.. Muazam has been signed by Westerlo, That is a good place to start a career.

After the tournament, Siasia would inherit many of the boys (Keshi is not serious) and Manu would start looking at the Amuneke boys coming up...

Impressive move by the Nff ....but when I looked at the names of instructors I felt disappointed .why do we need calibers of oldskool coaches without any success to show for it? Pls Nff should make amends , we need foreign instructors with wealth of experience ,otherwise it will be a back to square one project .

Guest Blog: Flying Eagles A Team To Be Proud Of
Ademetan Yomi

I saw the Flying Eagles battle it out with Senegal U20 team in the 2015 African Youth Championship final in Dakar, Senegal – I remembered how I gave them a standing ovation and felt so proud to be a Nigerian because of the way the players performed.

Without a doubt the team grew into the tournament as games went on, Manu Garba’s charges improved steadily throughout the tournament.

On Tuesday 12th May, they swept aside Hoffenheim U23 5-2, with Taiwo Awoniyi netting a brilliant hat-trick in the friendly match. The other Flying Eagles goals was netted by Godwin Saviour and Chidera Ezeh.

What this piece I will attempt to examine the many positives that have emerged from this Flying Eagles team ahead of the U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

One cannot continue without mentioning the contributions of Nduka Ugbade, who has been a good assistant to the head coach. He instilled a lot of confidence in the team – and his ''physical training'' is something else!

The Flying Eagles attack and defend as a unit and it clearly shows in their games.

The technical crew has ensured that there is team discipline in camp and that in turn strengthens the mental psyche of the players.

I don't really want to talk about foreign based players like Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success and Moses Simon. For me, they are good players and have nothing to prove to us.

Forgive me for being sentimental – as I’m about to drop my pen – Taiwo Awoniyi is a beast!

I saw him play in the 2015 LMC Super Six in Abuja and even then I was hugely impressed with the maturity with which he played, which belied his young age.

He showed quality at the AYC and handed the 2015 All African Games ticket to the Dream Team VI with a brilliant brace against Zambia U23 at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Musa Muhammed is another talent I mustn't forget to mention. He was a true leader on the pitch for the Flying Eagles in Senegal, with superb reading of the game and excellent organizational skills. Indeed he brought out the best in his colleagues at the back and he is playing just like Brazilian legend Cafu did in his prime for the Samba Boys.

If he continues in this vein, he could make a gate-crashing entry into the Super Eagles after the U20 World Cup.

Flying Eagles 70% against Hoffenheim says Manu

Coach Manu Garba has scored his Flying Eagles 70% after they got off to a winning start on a training tour of Germany ahead of the 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

The African champions brushed past Hoffenheim U23 5-2 on Tuesday as part of the build-up to the U20 World Cup, which starts on May 30.

“It was a good outing overall and I will score us about 70%,” said Manu after the thrilling encounter.

“We started the game slowly, but we later picked up to play our normal game.

“But again we need to work on our defence by taking on more defensive responsibilities and our finishing has to be better as we lost several chances.

“All the same, we should also praise the Hoffenheim team, they are a team of professional players and they took the game to us very early on.”

The Flying Eagles next game will be on Friday afternoon in Nurnberg against the Nurnberg U23s, before they play their final warm-up match against Freiburg U23 team on May 19.

I think for the most part, we have decent confidence in the ages. Most of the players are from U17 and had passed many tests.

The problem will be from new entrants like Sokari, Enaholo, Monsur (who would be dropped), Leke (would be dropped), pygbara (would be dropped) and perhaps Ifeanyi Ifeanyi...

The rest are within the bracket. That is the best we have managed in a long time.

Sokari and Pyagbara are especially suspect, the latter should be up to 21 having played in th 2011 set who must have been older than 20

Godwin Saviour is a very small boy, He is second from left, first row.

That said, it is difficult to tell age from how they look..

Finally! That spambot banned me since so I couldn't celebrate with Awoniyi my loff on his hat-trick angry....anyway, now that I'm free....

I'm highly impressed with the striking force. We have to remember that this team has never really had a strong defence, we menntioned this during the U-17 world cup. They thrive onn early goals to psychologically weaken their opponents.

Apparently, that hasn't changed. I do agree that we need to tighten the defence, hopefully we can do that before the tournament. I doubt the Brazilians will pity a weak defence.

That being said, this Saviour dude may just be the wildcard to replace Isaac on the bench....if we have Moses, Awoniyi and even Kelechi (as a false 9) we may not really need him

nice one sis..
on the defence issue, we should not forget that the national team is not like a club side where yu can buy a replacement for any problematic position.. we have to make_do with whatever we have..

however, the coach can improvise by using a deep sitting DMF/Holding MF.. sokari physics comes handy here..
while we allow an overlapping full backs, we must also note that ball possession is also important in this case..

By loosing possession in opposition half too often will definitely leads to counter attack when ur full backs are out of place and also expose the central defenders aerial threat.. we will also need our pacy wingers to track back as fast as possible whenever they lose possession in opposition half..

Dont mind the guy. Sokari is a fantastic player. I'm actually not doubting his age. he was picked off the streets by Enyimba and he walked straight into the team.

He was the one who made Enyimba ticked and ensured that guy (what's his name again) ended up as the highest goal scorer. I personally like Matthew but say what, Sokari will make him sweat.

FLYING EAGLES GET WORLD CUP WARNING FROM BENJAMIN JAMES

Hoffenheim U15 Nigerian-born coach Benjamin James has warned that the Flying Eagles must make the most of their chances after they created a rash of openings against Hoffenheim U23s only to put away five of them.

James was in the stands to watch the Nigeria U20s demolish Hoffenheim 5-2 in a test match on Tuesday ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

“It was not a bad game, but the Flying Eagles must work on their quick recovery because it is very important to work as a team. I hope the coach will correct what I noticed,” said the former strapping Shooting Stars defender, who has been in Germany for about 18 years.

“Also, they created so many chances but for a good team you don’t need so many chances to make a goal. You need one, two chances to score. They therefore have to utilise all their chances because at the World Cup chances will be a lot fewer.”

He said he expects the Flying Eagles to go all the way in New Zealand.

“If they could work on some of the flaws we saw today, they can really reach the final and finally win it for Nigeria,” he predicted.

Incidentally, six players who have passed through James at the Hoffenheim U15s featured against the Flying Eagles on Tuesday.

James equally tipped Germany to shine in New Zealand.

“They are a very good side. They are the European champions and a lot is also expected of them,” he said.
