I remember the incident and Yemi Iwilade aka Africa , he was always dressed in Ankara ( I guess that was why he was called Africa ) , I visited a friend of mine then in OAU in 1998 , Ahmed Shittu , I was in U.I then. I met Africa and he struck me as a very intelligent fellow , years later and I'm still to come to grips with their mindless murder. R.I.P great Africa

Which Ahmed shittu? The one in chemical? Been a while I saw the dude.

Am sure of two things:
1. You are not a Student of OAU.
2. You don't understand the story all through (you need to read again)

That event turned OAU around buh its sardonic some people have to lose their lives.

Now in OAU, woe betides anyone with the slightest trace of cultism, infact no student dares raise a hand against another.

Conscious ife!
Great ife!
That was how it was in our days. Nothing like cultism. Kegites would do their things. Others too. The greatest crime was catching you making love in the open field.

the rise of internet fraud, ironic as it may sound, went a long way in reducing cultism on campuses to minimum.

Saddest thing about this whole matter is that some of the perpetrators of that evil act or their colleagues who know about the hit might be on this forum reading this whole story.

Some will even be married, with kids living a "respectable" life.

One thing is so certain, their will be a lot of shocking revelations on the Great Judgement Day.

Thank God my school was peaceful during the 90's. Unilorin- permanent site.

I believe the revolutionary and courageous response of the Great Ife Students to the massacre the following day, which led to the death of the one of the culprits brought about the phobia that make the great citadel a no-go-area for cultists. May the Martyrs continue to rest in the bosom of the Lord.

Dr 3As? I remember some years ago when he was being trailed by Prof. Fabayo (Fabro) while coming out from PG Hall. I could not believe Fabro gather the courage to pursue to the entrance of Awolowo Hall. Fabro was later chased by awoites and he ran into his car and sped.

I remember that particular day vividly, the chief security officer was caught and locked up in Awo's toilet.

Phew! *heaves a sigh of relief* The day I ran like Ben Johnson into the thick, dark forest of OAU without thinking of the danger ahead. I mean what other danger can be brutal as the one I was running away from. Now 16 years and it seems like yesterday. May their soul rest in peace. I just hope Faro and Legacy are doing great. They both escaped death by a whisker.

Adeniyi Akanni Adenekan, one of the few most articulate student activists Ife produced, how are you doing bro.

This story brings back the memories of that evil incident. Afrika was in my class and a day before that incident he came to sit for the banking law test that took place that day...I saw him walking away right in front of me and remembered that I wanted to discuss some issues relating to student matters but I just said to myself ' I will see him another day' and sadly I did see him the next day lying on his bed with a bullet hole on his head and marks created by axes inflicted on his head still wearing the same cloth that I saw him in when he sat for the test on friday...I went blank and cried because amongst other things he consulted with us his colleagues in class when he wanted to contest for that position and we gave him our total support...alas they just wasted a great brain for no reason.....well am sure some of those who took part in that massacre of the students would be dead by now or possibly be unstable in whatever they do because the blood of those that were shed that day will surely cry for justice which I know would have been served by now....afrika,eviano and others continue to rest in peace....

its even shocking that Fabro had that much energy. I was always in his room in Block F, PG hall. It was the same day crackers almost shot Akinola Saburi (Malcom X) in the bushes behind spider.

Reminds me of the June 12 building case in uniben

Those were the days when MEN were in school

So there is history behind the name of that building? Please tell me!

OAU has a record of most intelligent, brave and victimed students' union activists such as Anthony Fasawe, Africa, MM, Dr3As, Saburi etc. Lengthy suspension and Ilesa prison are not new to most of them. I think a record should been kept about this Union so younger generation of Union activists can make reference to previous struggles and union traditions.

Please anything You dont know, dont say it..!

Iwilade did his best anf We all like him for that. RIP to him..

But OAU is NOT the Only school you can walk anytime without you having any fear of intimidation or harassment.. For Example, In the school I attend (FUNAAB) We FUNAABITES walk anytime of the day and night and we are not confronted!

And I am sure there are other Federal schools in Nigeria that allow their students to walk anytime of the night!

all being said,... Oau or Funaab peace no reach Unilorin's own...

Cult group without a name. We suspect who d OP is. But mehnnn, then days were when men were men and women were won by those who deserve them through confraternal supremacy, luxury n flamboyance. Memorable as it is but not the best of era. Let students strive to join the rest of the world in technology advancement, knowledge that builds a nation and promote harmony across divides and ethnicity, and run with d vision of transformation of Nigeria. Where youths eschew violence, while unity and national cohesion is propagated through expansion of acceptance of each others cultural defects and deficiency. Above all youths and students should utilize their times in school as d best opportunity to serve God and perfect walk with Christ. God blesss Nigerian students.
