Good evening room....here is a new project I am handling for a good client i met here on nairaland.

job: construction of the substructure( from foundation footings to DPC level)

project duration: 2 weeks

job descriptions: ground floor ; Two bedrooms, entrance porch, main lounge, dinning room, kitchen, gymnasium

First floor; five bedrooms, family lounge, study room.

Day one (09-05-2015): Foundation setting out using profile board.
Materials: 4 bundles of peg @ N500/bundle = N2,000
30nr of 2'' x 2'' soft wood as profile @ N180/nr = N5,400
20nr of line @ N150/nr = N3,000
6 pound weight of 3'' nail @ N150/pound weight = N900
1 carpenter and 1 labour = N5,000
miscellaneous = N5,000
Total =N21,300

Day 2: excavation of foundation trenches.

Calculated perimeter of excavation = 180m
Actual perimeter of excavation = 173.5m
Rate of excavation @ N600/m
Duration of trenches excavation = 1 day

Tomorrow, we will be looking at the preparation of the starter bars ( foundation columns ) and the basket (pad footing columns reinforcement).We will also be looking at the excavation of pad footing base.

completion of excavation: Here the column base were excavated to the required level.

item two: preparation of foundation pad base reinforcement ( basket) and foundation columns reinforcement ( column starter).
the column/pad base is of 1200mm x 1200mm.
made of Y16 bar ( high yield bar)
with spacing of 200mm (10" center to center.
there are 12 bars each per base
the length of each bar before bending into shape = 150mm + 1100mm +150mm = 1400mm
since the length of a bar of iron is 12m. one and half length will be required to complete a typical base of 1200mm x 1200mm

starter column: column dimension of 225mm (9" x 225mm(9"
300mm + 2700mm = 3000mm
one length of 12m will produce one starter column because a column must have at least 4 bars symmetrical placed.
the lings(ring) length of the column = 700mm, making a closed ring of 175mm x 175mm
Y10 bar was used for the column links and the links were spaced at 200mm c/c

resumption of work after two weeks delay due to some technical issues.
day 1:
job description : 50mm blinding to column/pad/isolated footing
the mix ratio of the blinding = 1:3:6
thickness of blinding = 50mm (2"
calculate number of bags to be used = 10bags
actual bags used due to increase in the size of footing =12bags

day 2: mounting and casting of the foundation column and strip footing to retain the foundation block wall: there are twenty-six foundation column of 1.2m x 1.2m each

materials:
gravel = 30tonnes of gravel
sand = 2 trip of sharp sand
cement = 95 bags of cement

day 3:
laying of foundation block:
expected number of block for the foundation = 1600blocks
size of foundation block = 9"
mix ratio of mortar = 1 : 6 ( one bag to twelve head pan of sand)

about ten good bricklayer were employed for this task, each with responsibility to lay 100 blocks daily. this approach was used to allow for proper supervision of the block wall.

observation:
one bag of cement was able to lay between 45-50 blocks
the mason were mandated to use top and side line in other to have a straight and uniform level throughout the foundation.
