It looks like a formidable squad Manu has named. The FE could realistically win their group with 9 points. |

Guest Blog: Flying Eagles Of 2005 And 2015 - Deja Vu? You can’t help but notice and hear the whispers and the roars of almost every football fan in Nigeria about any particular raging issue. It applies in the affirmative and in the cynical. When there seems to be any unpalatable development in Nigeria, you definitely will hear the whispers and cries of the fans/people and the same applies when the proficient happens. People hardly keep quiet about anything which in itself isn’t exactly a bad thing. The trending topic in Nigerian football at the moment (I should say since last year) – with the exception of Stephen Keshi of course – has to be Manu Garba’s Flying Eagles. The team has been so good that I’m sure they will record a fuller house than the Super Eagles if both teams play similar opposition on the same day! That’s how good and loved this team is. I am yet to hear anybody say anything to the contrary. But beneath all the excitements that trails the current Flying Eagles team, it sort of feels like a Déjà vu. Take your minds back ten years ago – May 2005. The Flying Eagles had also won the Africa Youth Championship in Benin Republic with Samson Siasia as coach. He instantly became the most loved person in Nigerian football. His team, despite winning the AYC in Benin Republic (West Africa), was also missing key names like Chinedu Obasi Ogbuke (as he was known then), and John Obi Mikel. Leading up to the World Cup in Holland that year, Mikel (attacking midfielder) was arguably the team’s biggest name and he would go on to later sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world, Chelsea (England). The team played some fast attacking football which endeared them to Nigerians. They were in group F and had Brazil, South Korea (Asia) and Switzerland (Europe) as group opponents. They played a 0-0 draw with Brazil in their first game but went on to top the group with 7 points. Fast forward to 2015. The team has also won the Africa Youth Championship this time in Senegal (Also West Africa), and Manu Garba is the most loved man in Nigerian football at the moment, but they were also missing key names like Kelechi Iheanacho (like Mikel) and Isaac Success (like Obasi-Ogbuke). And leading up to this year’s World Cup, Iheanacho (attacking midfielder) is arguably the team’s biggest name and he has already signed with one of the biggest clubs in the world, Manchester City, (England). This team also plays fast attacking football which has endeared them to Nigerians. They are in Group E this time, and have Brazil (again), North Korea (Asia) and Hungary (Europe) as group opponents and they play Brazil in their first game, just like in 2005. But as at this moment, that is where the similarities end, maybe until after the World Cup in New Zealand. The questions now: Will Nigeria also play a 0-0 draw against Brazil in their opening fixture? (I want a win). Will Nigeria finish top of the group with 7 points? (Wouldn’t be bad but I’d prefer 9 points) Would Iheanacho (like Mikel in 2005) turn out to be Nigeria’s best player? (Wouldn’t be surprised) Would Musa Muhammed (like Taiye Taiwo in 2005) turn out to be Nigeria’s second best player? (Wouldn’t be surprised) Would Joshua Enaholo (Edo State) turn out to be as good as Ambrose Vanzekin (Also Edo State) was for Nigeria in 2005? (Won’t be bad but I hope he’s better) And finally, would Nigeria also finish as runners-up to Argentina just like in 2005? (God forbid. I prefer they win). Forumites (Nairalanders) what do you think? 2 Likes |

This is another forumites point of view. ''And one more thing... It isn't de ja vu... 1. Manu Garba earned d love and respect of Nigerians back in 2013 and not after d ayc like siasia... D ayc victory only adds to it. 2. Nigeria produced the top 2 scorers at AYC 2015 but at AYC 2005 Nigeria had Solomon Okoronkwo as her highest scorer with 3gls and he wasn't d top scorer. Iajour mouhsine of morocco took d award with 5gls. 3. This 2015 team have a super bench but the 2005 team were not really loaded on d bench. 4. Mikel signed 4 a big club after d WYC but Iheanacho signed b4 d WYC. I can go on, there are indeed certain similarities but on d whole there are differences. THE 2005 U-20 TEAM WERE SIMPLY AWESOME BUT MEHN!!!!! THIS 2015 CLASS IS SOMETHING ELSE... I know it's still early days but I strongly believe Iheanacho and co led by The Manu Garba super crew will be World Champions by June 20''. 3 Likes |

Awoniyi Hits Brace As Flying Eagles Thrash Nuremburg U23s : The Flying Eagles of Nigeria continued their build up to the World Youth Championship with a 5-0 thrashing of FC Nurnberg's Under-23 side. Striker Taiwo Awoniyi gave them a 2-0 lead via his brace, before further goals from Kingsley Sokari and Ibrahim Alhassan gave them a 4-0 lead. Taking a commanding lead into the half time break, the second half witnessed a pedestrian approach from the Nigerians, before Ibrahim Alhassan, who is on standby, scored to give them a commanding 5-0 lead. No other goal was scored in the second half, handing them their second win in two games but coach Manu Garba will however be pleased with his side's defensive display. The coach wasn't totally impress with the manner in which they conceded goals against Hoffeinheim in their 5-2 victory, hence the clean sheet is a welcome development. Despite that , SL10.ng scooped he was still not entirely satisfied with his team after the game as he complained about scoring just once in the second half after the four they had in the first half. 2 Likes |

4-0 first half 1-0 Second half I am beginning to worry that the level of opposition is not good enough. We should try and get a friendly with ateam going to the world cup. 1 Like |

Not to be a kill joy but it seems like these German Teams suck, i would have rather we played teams with an actual good first team like Bayern or Dortmond, teams known for having strong reserves at least a wolfsburg not teams in the bottom of the log, lets be honest if your main team sucks how good are your reserves? 1 Like |

BascoVanVeli: Forget it bro. These guys are so good they will beat the current super eagles team. On the other hand, they must be careful not to be too intense because of injuries and fatigue. They must not be exhausted before the main tourney. It is all about tuning up tactics and team blending 1 Like |
