Jesus in bible also commits another scientific blunder when he declares the mustard seed to be the smallest seed of the earth (Mark 4:31). There are, in fact, many seeds smaller than the mustard, such as the South American orchid, but the Hebrews were obviously ignorant of most everything outside of their homeland. Had God presented this bit of information to the author of Mark, it seems unfeasible that the writer would portray Jesus as a man so careless with his diction. This example is clearly another biblical error on the growing accumulation that arises from the same limitation of divinely uninspired perspective.

Always reading the bible like a novel and always interpreting the deep things of the Lord literally.

When you read the bible, try to understand the situation the person speaking was in. Have a mental imagine of him and the category of people surrounding him.

First, when Jesus said "What shall we say the kingdom of God is like".

It is obvious that he's tired of explaining and giving examples to help them understand him yet they couldn't. So he was looking for something that is close to them. Something they know very well.

Every sane man should know that Jesus, when he asked that question is about to use an extended simile (parable) to teach his disciples a principle about the kingdom.

Jesus is aware of the orchids but he used mustard for these two reason.

1. Jesus used the smallest seed familiar to a Palestinian farmer, a small seed that unlike an orchid seed grows to have “big branches that the birds in the air can perch in” to illustrate that the kingdom of God began in obscurity but would one day “fill the earth.”

2. Secondly he was not addressing Christians in an international conference rather he was teaching the locals.

Already the kingdom of God is foreign to them so using a foreign seed as an example will confuse their confused mind the more.

Though it was not recorded this way and the translators tried to use the best possible form to render those words in english, the concept still shows Jesus was probably telling them about the kingdom using an example of one of the smallest seed available to the people he was talking to. what the seed does after planting was the main focus of those that recorded that event.

Matthew 13: 31,32 and Luke 13: 18,19 will allow you come to a better understanding of what those who recorded the event where trying to say.
