Oil Platform Fabrication: Ijaw Youths Draw Battle Line by Nobody: 10:42pm On May 17, 2015
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) on Sunday reacted to the controversy between the presidency and the owners of the multi-million dollars Egina Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility over the decision of the federal government to relocate the fabrication from LADOL yard in Lagos to Agge in Bayelsa State.

They said they would not allow materials fabricated in Lagos to be used in the platform in the Niger Delta region.

The IYC’s reaction is subsequent to an interim order of the federal High Court, Lagos, stopping the federal government from implementing the directive.

According to the IYC in a statement by its spokesman, Comrade Eric Omare, "We want to make it clear that whether court injunction or no court injunction, we would not allow materials to be fabricated in Lagos and used to build oil platform in the Niger Delta region. Niger Deltans have been taken for granted for too long and we would no longer accept it.

"The IYC and indeed the Niger Delta people back the directive of President Jonathan to move the fabrication of oil and gas materials to the Niger Delta where the eventual job is to be done. We also support the directive to move oil and gas cargoes to only ports in Warri, Calabar and Onne. This is not only in line with the requirement of the local content law but it also makes so much economic sense.

"It is common knowledge that Lagos is highly congested and there is need to move some class of cargoes especially oil and gas materials to ports within the Niger Delta region where the oil facilities are located.

"We consider the opposition to the Presidential directive and the attendant media propaganda by the Lagos cabal as an insult on Niger Del tans. It is on record that all the oil companies operating in the Niger Delta region have their offices in Lagos to the detriment of the Niger Delta economy.

"Henceforth, Niger Deltans would take steps to ensure that any oil company without its headquarters in the Niger Delta region would not be allowed to operate in the region. The IYC frowned and condemn the ex-parte order of the federal High Court.

"We wonder how the federal High Court would hurriedly grant such an order without giving opportunity to other parties to present their own side of the case. We question the swiftness of the order and call on the National Judicial Council to investigate the judge who granted the order."

Well better no investment in nigeria as a whole but any new investment in the oil and gas industry of nigeria outside of the ND is at major and verifiable risk when the time comes to position it or use it in the ND SIMPLICITA.

If the fools had left it in ondo as originally conceived we would not have said a word ,but in keeping with their sense of entitlement they sabotaged that and diverted it to lagos.

...what an ignoramus!! Is Ondo a Niger Delta state? Is Chad basin a Niger Delta state?

Oil exploration in Chad had ceased due to risks of terrorism. If the cost/benefit scale of doing business in the Delta flattens out the explorers will abandon the rigs and take business elsewhere. They will then sanction your oil production in the market. How will you find the resource to grow your economy in the Delta? You will regress and stagnate.

Jonathan was clueless before March 28th, and he is still clueless after.

I like the part omare said " henceforth any oil company that does not have their oil company in N/D would not be allowed to operate in their region" now this is what I call taking the bull by the horn.

One will simply imagine how a region is creating wealth and it is being enjoyed by the "sophisticated" and the "born to rule" mentality.
To enlighten you come to south south most of the oil companies there are being managed by the "sophisticated" whereas the youths and the owners of the oil begg's to be employed.
So much injustice perpetrated in this country called one Nigeria.

The injustice in thatc country is becoming ridiculous

Of course, why not?? what's the big deal about buying oil from outside to refine?? what is the big deal? are we alien to importation? even Oshiomhole had to import a wife as recently as last friday cool so why can't Dangote import the crude his refinery needs?

after all we've been using imported fuel to run Nigeria for plenty years now and even getting defrauded by the gej government created cabal in the process so why can't we get a step further by importing the crude to refine here?

Dangote refinery will even buy the crude off the militants that steal it everyday....400,000 barrels of stolen crude will be enough to feed the plant.

GEJ decides to force a PRIVATE project conceived in 2003 to bayelsa 2 weeks to the end of his tenure and you want the promoters to keep quiet? was he on Valium 5 overdose for the past 5 years of his kindergarten presidency? (apologies to Prof David-West)

why didn't he do it earlier? why the last minute desperation? to show his people he didn't forget them? To buy himself a hero's welcome?

Everything the company is fabricating isn't coming FROM the ND, rather they are coming TO the ND. The company isn't even created only for projects in the ND.....it's meant to serve the african market as the continent lacks ready availability of such a project.

Also, it's nobody's fault that Asari sees Benin republic as a better destination for the money he gets paid from the ND. If a son of the soil who claims to fight for the region doesn't think his businesses are safe in the region, why blame the non indigene of the ND who refuses to bring his investment down there?

The project is for profit, not for charity or decoration. Tell Asari, Tompolo, Ateke, Boyloaf etc to show the way by starting the investment boom with the money they're making daily from the region. If they don't love their region enough, who should?

Some folks claim they fought for the liberation of the ND e.g Asari Dokubo. How much has he expended to free the region from poverty utilizing the billions he makes from the mega deal he got from the FG in the process?

Charity begins at home you know? how many youths has he empowered? what businesses has he created in the ND to facilitate employment? or is Benin republic a part of the ND that he has his businesses there?

If folks like him don't invest in the ND, who should?

That's his decision to build or not to as it is not limited to him alone because I can name countless Nigerians who have their investments established outside Nigeria.
We are talking about N/D vs Nigeria and not the other way round.
Wonder why people are fast to mention asari as if he is the only man that put a structure outside this country?
Bro if most individuals should bring their well established businesses home, believe me you won't see youths roaming the street worthlessly.
Like i said earlier is not between Asari and Nigeria but a whole N/D region vs Nigeria.
And am not by any means supporting him for that act of his but want to concentrate more on the importance of the message.

@the bold, don't you think it's also Mr Jadesinmi's prerogative to site his investment in an environment where he feels it's safe and better for his operations? remember he's a private citizen and the FG didn't give him a dime to establish it.

before LADOL was set up, Oil companies used to send these projects outside Nigeria. Is Lagos not closer to you in the ND than taking the project to say a place like Aberdeen or Florence? What i expected GEJ to do is encourage the young ND guys he's empowered financially to set up something similar in bayelsa then get the oil majors to give them some of the contracts that emanate from the industry from time to time. I'll be very surprised if no ND youth works at LADOL which is 1000 times better than the Asari example i used.

Not asking a man to move his life's work at a whim just to tell your people you remember them when he was on sleeping and dulling mood for the 5 years of his presidency.

Asari like a lot of other Nigerians have businesses abroad like you said which is why we shouldn't frustrate a Nigerian who sites his investment in Nigeria even if it's not in the ND

Thanks for your civility by the way wink

The subject line is Lagos! If you take oil revenue from Lagos what lessins are you trying to teach?

Lagos is the only state in Nigeria, followed by Ogun state, that forecast its entire budget based on revenue from labour and productivity. No other state beside these two can accomplish that feat. Everyone else, including Niger Delta states are at the mercy of oil revenue.

So to follow your threat, who suffers if you choose to blow up all the oil installations in the Delta?
