it is outlawed doesnt mean its not practiced......they refuse to sign it becos they have a clause in the constitution which gives them technicalities to over rule most laws....

the sharia is enshrined in the constitution....so they have a law that is at logger head with your secular laws

I'm glad that his wife has come and spoken out against one of a number of barbaric practices that some people elect to cling to but it's interesting that she was speaking to an international audience. Why did she not give that same speech in northern Nigeria where it really needs to be heard?

The soon-to-be First Lady's statement is rather rash, if truly she said it the way he typed it. I take issues with the age limit. You can't say anyone below 18 is too young to marry, the limit should be lower to be reasonable, say 15 or 16. And saying she must be a school leaver, is laughable and unrealistic. Does she know the amount of young people (both male and female) unable to complete their sec school education for reasons out of marriage? It's tantamount to saying someone who has no education has no right to marriage. Even in the US, there are high school drop outs and no one stops them from getting married.
