Hello all, for those travelling with toddlers and grandmas, please remember to buy travel insurance for them... just in case, usually not very expensive, but saves a lot should it be required. 1 Like |

Hi Moms, Moms to be and few papas in the house, I have roughly 6 weeks to port, although i have started feeling home sick cause i have never been apart from my hubby and I am not traveling with my son (he will shuttle between my mom and my mother inlaw, he will be on holidas then). My main question, I have since bought my PTA $4,000 @ N200 and I also have some other funds. In all I have a total of $6,975 in my dorm account. I plan to buy $25 to make it up to $7000 for POE. I dey fear to buy dollar a@ N222. Also I plan to pay my hospital bill using InterBank (Form A using Medical Travel Allowance) they exchange rate is about N197 - N200 1. Is $7,000 enough for POE? 2. I also plan to print my statement in my naira account and also go with both my VISA and Master cards 3. Has anyone paid their medical bills using Medical Travel Allowance? I plan using this oh, then open a BOA account and save my $7,000 also I plan to shop with my cards. For those interested in the Medical Travel Allowance, the requirements are; 1. Duly completed Form A 2. Letter of reference from Specialist hospital in Nigeria 3. Ticket, Passport, Valid Visa (Travel documents) 4. Letter from Doctor overseas stating the cost of treatment and account number 5. Instruction letter to debit your account or a cheque. Please note that the funds will be remitted to the Doctor or Hospitals account directly. |

Tvegas: Please go easy on her . Not everyone know these things. 2 different people in the US took turns to convince me to drop the identity of my child for tax returns but i said mba. They promised to share the proceeds of the returns with me, imagine getting paid like $1000-$1500 on a child per annum. That is mouthwatering but I still said mba. @OP.....This matter bothers on conscience and morality. The money your sister may promise to share with you will be paid with the sweat of tax paying americans. Dont reap where you didnt sow. Your child is not in the US and no one should claim returns on him or her. Cheers
@Tvegas: God Bless you. When you dont know something you'll ask people. And everyone please everything is not illegal, ther are specific situations where you can claim your nephews and neices on your tax returns. @OP: Everything you need to know is here http://www.irs.gov/publications/p501/ar02.html#en_US_2014_publink1000220868. Questions asked are; did the child live with your sister for up to 6 months, if not there are exemptions read details at the link above. Bottom line is has your sister in anyway FINANCIALLY contributed toward the upkeep of that child. If your answer is no I will not encourage to cheat the system as so many have done in the past. God Bless |

zeezahbee: I beg to differ as well. If Medicaid was automatic why do we still have people filling for bankruptcy after having their kids stay in the NICU for months or why all the frustartions on Obamacare and it not being fair to some classes of people. Medicaid as i know it from someone who has done extensive research in 2 different states is that: If you are low income, yes you can file for Medicaid for your kids and at that time it is automatic. If not i wont be paying for insurance for my kids at my job and will use Medicaid for them and save me $ monthly. Everything you need is here: http://www.medicaid.gov/medicaid-chip-program-information/by-topics/eligibility/eligibility.html So yes if your husband's income is within the income limits specified in the link above the child is eligible for medicaid. The mother however as you correctly stated is not eligible for any assistance unless she is able to adjust her status before childbirth, file for the health insurance and prove that her and her husbands joint income qualifies them for any state or federal health insurance programs. God Bless!! 5 Likes |

staa: Have you considered that a child born to a USC abroad can obtain USC status. Not sure if your going was solely to get better healthcare or to make sure husband is there for the birthing or just to get the citizenship worked out. I know some people have indicated that if they birth in Nigeria they have company insurance that covers all costs in VERY good hospitals. Info you need on acquiring status for a child born to a USC are here: http://travel.state.gov/content/travel/english/legal-considerations/us-citizenship-laws-policies/citizenship-child-born-abroad.html and http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/abroad/events-and-records/birth.html. Side note this will require you going to the embassy and filling paperwork since you are plannig on keeping your visitors visa that might be an issue. Cos you are going to report yourself :-) |
