Thank u so much for ur response. He started work officially last year. His aim is to do his residency again in Canada n get into deir system. His plan was to do a masters program dere afta which he hopes to get into residency but unfortunately he didn't get admission into any of d schools n got d diploma instead. U know ow medicine is like for young docs in naija. Hez rili at a cross road n doesn't know if to go ahead wit d diploma plans n doesn't want to waste money

It is almost impossible to transfer any experience as a medical doctor to that of the Canadian system. Even doctors from the States and England find it a bit difficult to get in. The standards are too high and no one will want to take a risk if you are not certified by all the Canadiane boards.

Also, its way too hard to get into medical school over here. I have some friends that are doing their residency now and they all had to have incredible marks in undergrad to get admission. I still dont understand the naija GPA system, so I can't translate when you can say things like 2.2 or upper class lower, I don't know what that means in our system.

The advice I would give you is that maybe he try applying to pharmacy school (still over 100k a yr starting salary), that is hard to get into but its not as hard as medical school. If he plans on practicing medicine here, then a diploma will not get him anywhere. He has a choice, either change field, or apply for an undergrad science degree program and then apply for medical school.

The good news is that if he becomes a doctor here, he is set for life. The pay is insane.

Hello bros, I need ur candid advice. I'm a computer science graduate from a uni. in naija and I currently work with an international telecoms firm with over 3yrs experience. I'm currently making plans of relocating to canada. My questions are; what are the prospects of a telecoms engr in canada? Hw is telecoms industry over there? Hw much do you knw about Humber College`s academic performance and overall rating cos I intend do a postgraduate course in wireless telecommunication at Humber? Cost of living in Ontario too. Thanks

@Solo8, I still await ur reponse please!

I just got admission for fall 2015. My dad is my sponsor, while preparing the document, I realized his passport expired in March. Can I still scan this expired passport as a document in the (PROOF OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT) section or will he have to renew it before u can proceed.

Sorry, I thought I already responded to this post. Computer science graduates are always in need, I think they are more available jobs in that field than most other professional industries. The bad news is that it is incredibly competitive. What role did you have in your company? Do you keep up to date with all the systems in the Canadian telecom industry and can you prove your technical ability during your interview. What I'm trying to say is that having the degree will just not cut it, you have to show what you bring to the table because a lot of people with a technical background know a lot about your field. I'll use myself as an example, I am not in your field but I code daily, build computers, servers, know a bit about control systems, work on personal computer science projects and the only formal education I have related is just my normal computer science related courses from engineering school, so you have to show that you know way more than someone like me for them to pay you more. The pay is fantastic in your field by the way, probably a higher starting salary than most engineering starting positions.

This section now is purely my opinion. If you have a choice, you should try and apply for masters (I almost never recommend doing masters or Ph.Ds if you don't plan to be a prof or have naija undergrad degree. I don't have one myself and I don't think I'm going to do it ever, except if my work pays for it totally and make some other guarantees) but in your case I think you should. There are a lot of computer science and software engineering graduates that will be competing with you with Canadian grades and portfolios. A College diploma will not give an edge except if you have a lot of experience and just need something Canadian on your resume. If you don't want to spend the time or money to do a masters program, look for an advance diploma course but from a university, This will probably be only a yr long or so.

I think I've answered most of your concerns, if you think there is something I did not make clear, let me know.

update: Actually there is way the college route might be of an advantage. After school, you'll be able to apply to jobs that you might be overqualified for and will probably have to do more technical jobs meant for those with a diploma. The pay will still be good though, probably about $40 to $50k starting, which you can live comfortably on. After Some yrs you'd have enough experience to use your naija degree to apply for higher positions but with way more Canadian experience, you will not have that much of an issue.

Let me know what type of lifestyle you expect to be living and i'll estimate your cost of living.

Guys again another question ... my dad will be my sponsor, he owns a company to which I am a director, I am applying the online route,

For the CAC document (company registration) there is an additional 12 page document where 2 of those pages shows evidence being a director in the company.

now my question, should I scan the entire 12 page document or just the pages where my name appear as a director

You can apply to medical school if you do a related Canadian masters program. They'll still ask for your undergrad transcript.

If you do not mind Sir, you can send me yours and I will be more than happy to peruse and critique as well. I would say its the same thing people use it interchangeably on this forum. Basically, you just need a letter addressed to the VO detailing : WHY THE PROGRAM, HOW THE PROGRAM WILL ASSIST YOU REACH YOUR CAREER & ACADEMIC GOAL, WHY THE SCHOOL, WHY CANADA ETC and any other good stuff you can think about that would mesmerize the VO.

I just wrote one for someone and I will be glad to send it to you
Please, can I get a copy?

Dont use an expired passport..Get another valid means of ID like driver's license or National ID.

Cheers!

I did paper submission last week Tuesday.
Before UofC gave me admission, they told me I cannot self sponsor myself even though I have enough money in my account to sponsor my family. So a friend gave me a scholarship using his company. When it was time to submit application for a study permit, I realised his account balance was extremely low. I just got a sponsorship letter from him and used my account which is heavily funded with my landed and other asset documents I had. I've even paid over 80% of my tuition. I have a good travel history and only had 2 pages left in my passport. I'm still wondering whether I submitted enough, seeing that my sponsor's SOA was not included. I actually only needed sponsorship because the school was adamant that it was the only way I could get admission.

The letter does not need to follow any particular format. It should state that you are being sponsored and the extent like tuition, accommodation, health, travel, living expenses etc, and why you are being sponsored. You may Google sponsorship letter.

Good morning peeps, I'm new here and really need your help urgently. I applied for a Canadian tourist visa with a friend since March (paper route application), we both submitted the application on the same day, at a different time interval. Howerver, he got a message from them on may 5 to come pick up his document, on getting there he wasnt granted d visa But am yet to hear anything from the embassy regarding my own application as of today, the last information I received was on the day of my submission (late march) and it states my documents has been forwarded to the cic office in Lagos. The application already elapses the 54 days procesing time stated on the cic website and d most annoying thing is I need my passport for an exam identification in few weeks. Is there anyone in the same problem ? Please what should I do? I'm scared to death.

Thanks

Unfortunately you have to wait till you hear from them. The best you can do is hope you hear from them before your exams.
