CFCfan:Australia is actually stronger than we estimate. I watched their matches at the last WWC. They beat Equitorial guinea, as well as Norway. They are no pushovers. Except we pick at least a point from the 1st match, things may be tough. |

FIFA WWC: Falcons jet out, play Canada May 25on May 19, 2015 at 12:52 am in News, Sports Facebook Share Twitter Share By Ben Efe Nigeria’s Super Falcons are expected to fly out tonight to start their campaign at the 2015 FIFA Women World Cup starting June 6 in various venues across Canada. Their first Super Falcons assignment will be to play a friendly match against the hosts Canada on May 25. The team has been camped in Abuja ahead of the tournament. They played an All Africa Games qualifier against Mali, which they won with an 9-1 aggregate scores. That was the only pre-tournament match they have played since winning the African women championship last October in Namibia. “The May 25 friendly against Canada has been confirmed. The Nigeria Football Federation is still working on one or two more games to boost the confidence of team,” one of the coaches said yesterday as they prepared to fly. On June 8 in Vancouver, the Super Falcons will test their intentions with Sweden and then take on Australia on June 12 in Winnipeg. Finally, on June 16 they will play the USA in Vancouver in the groud pairings. Coach Edwin Okon is hopeful that will not be the end of their stay in Canada. Cameroon who finished behind the Falcons at the AWC arrived Canada on Friday. They were the first team to arrive for the party. The 24 national teams arrive in Canada between 15 May and 5 June, with the opening group matches across Canada. |

BascoVanVeli: Look Mr. Get with the Times, Eniola Aluko was born in Lagos, Nigeria and she has been in the league since 2001. There were two Ghanaians, Anita Asente and Freda Ayisi, in the league before Asisat Oshoala knew how to kick the a round object. Freda Ayisi is even a Ghana-born girl too. Nigerian are known for loudmouth and it puts Nigerians in a low class among intellectuals. It was absolutely idiocy for the dude to write that Asisat Oshoala was the first African woman to play in the English Women Premier League. What an ignorant stretch. |

CFCfan: Easy to drop 5 players from this list. Refreshing that the ladies from Swedish league are omitted. Sarah Michael and Faith Ikidi. Mariam Ibrahim will replace Ikidi, and I expect the younger Edoho to be dropped. Great to see that the coaches are taking 8 defensive players to Canada. Team balance is important. |

dodobytes:No way she will be picked ahead of Esther Sunday. Actually only 25 players flew to Canada, and 2 more will be dropped and placed on standby Goalkeepers: Precious Dede, Ibubeleye Whyte, Christy Ohaeriaku, Defenders: Sandra Chii-Chii, Onome Ebi, Osinachi Ohale, Josephine Chukwunonye, Ngozi Ebere, Blessing Edoho, Sarah Nnodim, Mariam Ibrahim, Ugo Njoku, Midfielders: Evelyn Nwabuoku, Onyinyechi Ohadugha, Halimat Ayinde, Cecilia Nku, Ngozi Okobi, Esther Sunday, Loveth Ayila, Chiwendu Ihezuo, Strikers: Desire Oparanozie, Asisat Oshoala, Iniabasi Umotong, Courtney Dike, Francesca Ordega. I think Perpetua Nkwocha may have been dropped. |

I feel for Uchechi too. She was unlucky that the team was brimming with quality forwards. Anyway, she already appeared at the last WC, and she could get another chance at the AAG and Olympics. |
Re: Super Falcons of Nigeria Thread: 2015 Women's World Cup by dodobytes: 9:28am On May 20, 2015 |
CFCfan: I feel Okon probably isn't a huge fan of Uchechi,or he is failing to see the big picture. Desire,Dike and Umotong are very similar in d way they play. Uchechi with her height would have offered the opposition a different kind of threat. |

BascoVanVeli: My brother,Dike should have had her moment at the Olympics and AAG,would really miss not seeing Perpetua. The whole team would have been better with her inclusion. Hope Okon has not been compromised..(apologies to Orubebe)..lol |

BascoVanVeli: You seemed to be correct. The sources informed that 26 players shall be in Canada but only 25 were listed. I guess Uchechi Sunday may join the team in Canada from her base. 1 Like |

CFCfan: I read Perpetua Nkwocha did not make the team. This team will have serious problem in the midfield. I guess the coaches would have included Osaranome Igbinovia in the team. She is, at least, 5-8, a hard tackler and skillful player with good power. |

Super Falcons Head to Canada Without Veteran Perpetua Nkwocha. The Super Falcons coach has announced his provisional squad without the legendary striker to embark on a training tour in North America for the Fifa Women's World Cup By Samuel Ahmadu May 20, 2015 08:30:41Coach Edwin Okon named a preliminary 26-woman squad for the Nigeria senior women team ahead of the 2015 Fifa Women's World Cup in Canada which begins on June 6. A notable absence is legendary striker Perpetua Nkwocha. The 39-year-old four-time African Women Footballer of the Year was dropped after participting in three straight World Cup outings in 2003, 2007 and 2011. Her hopes of making a fourth World Cup appearance was dashed as the coached opted for younger players in keeping with his philosophy of building team for the future. The African champions' squad, drawn after nearly four months of camping at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja since Feburary 22, is composed of four goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders and six strikers. The Super Falcons' team, captained by Evelyn Nwabuoku, is largely filled with members of the 2014 African Women Championship winning team, including the reigning African Women Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala. Surprise selected talents who made the squad are AWC winner Christy Ohiariaku, former Falconets star Courtney Dike who plays for the Oklahoma State University team and Portsmouth Ladies' Iniabasi Umotong, and former Flamingoes striker Chinwendu Ihezuo. Nigeria have been drawn in the tournament's toughest group alongside two-time winners USA, Sweden and Australia in Group D for the Women's World Cup that will take place between 6 June and 5 July. The team departed for Canada on Tuesday night from the Abuja airport via Paris to connect to Toronto. The duo of Nwabuoku of Biik Kazygut and Francesca Ordega of Washington Spirits will arrive Canada from their respective bases in Kazakhstan and the United States of America. The African champions will play a friendly match against the senior women’s national team of Canada on 25 May - the same day Okon is expected to release his final 23 squad for the World Cup. The Super Falcons will begin their campaign in the preliminary stages against Sweden at the 7th FIFA Women’s World Cup in Winnipeg on 8th June before taking on Australia at the same venue and then USA in Vancouver.
