I know u must ve hrd abt d oil cabals. It takes only a courageous and incorruptible president to revilve our dilapitated refineries. Just like some pple feed frm our disgraceful power sector some oda enjoy d nature of oil sector now.

Isn't this the reason America believe this country can never be measure with her standards in centuries to come?
.
.
They called it "National cake" what a name!
.
.
Many outstanding countries don't have crude oil... Yet, they're making good fortunes out of its little resources...
.
.
America as at 2010 claim they could stop every working citizens from working for 5years and the government will pay them for that 5years and the Country's economy will stil have enough left.
.
.
I doubt if Nigeria can try that... The last time labour went on strike...our politicians cry and went into media to tell the world how much the country is missing per day!...
.
.
This country like you've clearly ascertained..will need a courageous and incorruptible president to fix us up!

We can only hope dat the incoming president live up to expectations by implementing dia manifesto. Politics has a lot of correlation with economics . A two party system with free and fair election and justice in the land like Uk will fast track devt.

Dude everything of repute in this country has come from the private sector. I do not expect anything good from the Dead hand of Abuja... Even if it is Jesus Christ that is there.. What we need is full devolution and proper resource control.

Other options are:

1: Devalue the naira, this will help to woo foreign investors.

2: Impliment the closed economy concept for a stipulated period, say for two decades.

3: etc...

I do think the people high up are considering various ways to alleviate the current spate.!

#God help us

Devaluation of the naira to what end?

Btw Nigeria is not even half way to operating a closed economy, not just yet... maybe a little contraints here and there could be put in place, say limitin importation of certain products, Makin our borders work and most importantly diversifying the economy which we've always heard our government say they want to do but still nothins on ground.. Closed economy for now is a NO.

"what we need is proper resource control" which only the so-called dead hand of abuja guarantees...

in my opinion the private sector with the exception of few established ones who mostly have their roots from other nations has done more harm than good both to the economy and to the citizens of this great nation... you would know what i mean if you've taken up a job in atleast 3private organizations before...

Honestly, I don't think you can be a good economist with your those suggestions...

Nigeria will not dare that ur second suggestion in this 21 century...

Good Morning

Mornin babaT
Those are options we can look into, rather than the drive to empower the naira against foreign currencies.

However, like theSpark pointed out (if am right), we can minimize importation to the bearest minimum, I made it as a point to hilsocial. Consequently, the theory of closed economy can be implemented on the long run *skeptical though.

Moreso, I do think these are not the only options we can impliment as a nation.

Comrade beneB, those are some of the options we can explore. The floor/house is open to other options stated in number 3: etc

CONSIDER THESE...

1: Foreign investors are complaining, yet a larger percentage of them are still in business in the nation.

2: The naira have been fighting and lossing battles against the dollar for decades. *I hope it wins the war though.

You may be right though hilsocial...
I suppose in chaos/unrest/war coupled perhaps, with loss of lives and properties, there are often a few profiteers.

Following the above statement, it will not be wrong to assume that there are a few Nigerians profiting from prevailing economic conditions of the nation.

Then, we may want to ask:

1: Who are these individuals, put simply, cat(s)?

2: Who will bell the cat(s)?

Not a bad idea though.
Back in uni, a lecturer once said and I quote, `some great ideas were birth in the toilet`, lol.
