Another game another win and its becoming, boring some sort, as it appears the Flying Eagles will not find their match in Germany en route New Zealand.
SC Freiburg fell 4-1, Tuesday to the Africa U20 Champions who wound up their FIFA World Cup camp as they get set for the competition proper on June 1st.

No Taiwo Awoniyi on the score sheet and neither was he in the starting XI after an appreciable hectic period for the hard working striker in 2015.

Nonetheless, there was a good number of goals to celebrate, 1 coming in the first half and 4 from both sides in the concluding 45 minutes.

Perhaps the talking point is not the fact that everybody can score in that team ( Flying Eagles), but the backline seems to budge, letting in a goal or two when the opposition press hard enough.

The 3rd goal against the Flying Eagles in 3 games shouldn’t really bother anyone much considering they put 14 past their opponents.

Manu Garba knows how much the FIFA U20 title means to Nigerians as winning is to his team’s philosophy. Cup competitions may offer very little recovery once you trail and against Brazil that could be a big test.

More so, Hungary and North Korea are tricky ties to; considering the peninsula Nation finished as runner-up in the Asian qualifying series last year

Nig vs Bra. June1, 2am. My starting line up:
4-3-3:
...............Enaholo
Mohammed..Omego..Ndidi..Mustafa
.............Idowu.............Ifeanyi
...................Sokari
...Bulbwa....................Yahaya
.................Awoniyi

Subs:
Depending of how the game is progressing, considering d like for like option:
Iheanacho for Bulbwa,
Moses for Yahaya
Success for Awoniyi
If the game is nt progressing in our favour:
Iheanacho for Sokari
Success for Awoniyi
Moses for Ifeanyi, so Yahaya joins Awoniyi/Success as a second center forward and Moses plays d Left Wing Forward.
Or Bulbwa off Success in and joins Awoniyi as CF while Moses comes in for either Idowu or Ifeanyi & moves to d right wing.
So many tactical options, infact this team is too much
You think say na Winning Eleven we dey play for here grin

Mate, I don't see any wrong in this write up. In fact, it is a good article. I totally agree with him but for me, I think the NFF having official academies in the 6 political zones is the solution to this.

Establish academies in Lagos, Enugu, Rivers, Kwara, Kebbi and Kaduna and have very good youth coaches in Europe head this academies and ensure there is a law in place that forbids these players to leave the country until they are of a certain age.

Get young lads of 8-12 years in, tutor them right from a tender age and then ensure there is a proper transitional program. Aside that, our youth coaches should be sent on regular refresher courses and be made to learn from the head of the academies as well. For instance, Garba will finish his term with the flying Eagles after the world cup, he has another 1 year before another competition to play ( qualifiers), send him to Barca or Ajax or Aston villa or Southampton to learn from their youth coaches. Let him be there for 6-8 months. Do this with other coaches as well and with the experience gained, they will be able to impact our youth team.

This will have a lot of positive effect on the national teams and our football as a whole. First, the more quality players we produce, the more attractive our football is to would be sponsors and the more money we will have in the long run to catch up with others.

The academy produce can be sold to big clubs too. AT A CERTAIN AGE. Just make sure the players are trained regularly and not forced to play in league matches. Train, train and train. If they must practice what they have learnt, that they can do via friendly matches. Exposing young players to too much competition instead of proper training is what's killing England right now.
Nice suggestion but i have a modification. In Europe, each football club has it's own academy. Even teams in Division 3 where the technical and tactical aspect of the game is taught. We don't have that here in Nigeria. The only Academy we have are the independent and privately owned ones. The reason why our players (especially those raised here) cannot get top clubs is because they lack the technical aspects of the game even when they possess the skill. Take for example a player like Ahmed Musa. I'm 100% sure if he were an European or South American raised player, he'll be among the best. But some deficiencies can be noticed in his game.
The Pepsi football Academy was a nice concept but i think it's dying. I was a student of the Academy in Lagos and then later in Abeokuta. They really taught us very good rudiments of the game.
The only solution is that the NFF compulsory each club in the Premier League to have a functioning Academy which must be monitored. I rest my case.

A good test match for Ghana. Nigeria should forget all those German U23 clubs and face some real tests too. Nothing wrong in playing 1 or 2 European/Asia/South American U20 sides.

Flying Eagles coach worries over his defence

Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba has admitted the defence remains his major worry going into the U20 World Cup, while at the same time saying his attack will be the most lethal in New Zealand.

“We still need to work on our defence. This is where we need to work on before the World Cup kicks off,” Manu admitted.

“The mental speed of the players (has to be better) – they do recover in good time, but they often fail to do the marking when it matters most, to close up on the opposition.

“But I believe before the World Cup, the defence will be a lot tighter because we will surely work on those areas. This is the major weakness of this team.”

However, the Flying Eagles have an embarrassment of talent to choose from in attack with the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi, Isaac Success, Kelechi Iheanacho on top form and scoring goals for Manu to say his strike force will be the deadliest at the World Cup

“The midfield is the main strength of this team, but with the inclusion of Isaac Success, Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon, the attack will be very, very deadly. It will be difficult to get an attack that will be as deadly as that of Nigeria,” he warned.

The African champions are drawn against Brazil, North Korea and Hungary in the first round of the competition, which kicks off on May 30 in New Zealand.

Anyansi hails improved, Barcelona-like Flying Eagles

Chairman of the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Felix Anyansi-Agwu, has said the Flying Eagles have improved tremendously, adding they remind him of the mighty Barcelona.

Anyansi visited the Flying Eagles in Germany and watched them wrap up their build-up matches prior to the U20 World Cup in New Zealand with a 4-1 trouncing of SC Freiburg II on Tuesday.

The Nigeria U20 team thus won all three test matches in Germany, scoring a total of 14 goals and conceding 3.

Anyansi said he was impressed with the remarkable progress the Flying Eagles have made under coach Manu Garba.

“From the quality of what I saw there has been tremendous improvements in the team and I am confident this team will represent the country very well at the World Cup in New Zealand,” said the Enyimba chairman.

“Watching them play reminds me of Barcelona, but you have to have that quality of Barcelona to take the ball from your goal and go and score at the other end.

“It was very important that they created so many chances, but in a match situation they should make use of these chances.

“I’m not being boastful but from what I have seen this team should get to the final of the World Cup.”

The Flying Eagles are pitched against five-time champions Brazil, North Korea and Hungary in the first round of the tournament, which begins on May 30.

And I am sure they will, unless we are playing a top team like portugal or columbia, it will be similar to the others because many teams in the tournament are not much better.

How do u mean by a good test match? Ghana lost to Portugal doesn't mean they had a good test match . Even if we play against any of the highly rated team and we come out victorious with wide margin u will still want another match . These guys are good ,they played the last match with d dropped players .

Traditional welcome greets first official team arrival

Ukraine today became the first team to arrive at their FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 venue, and they were greeted not only with a taste of home, but by a traditional Kiwi welcome.

On arrival at Auckland International Airport, coach Oleksandr Petrakov and his team were treated to a performance from Tainui’s Haka Legend group and words of welcome from representatives from the city council. They also received a rousing reception from members of the local Ukrainian community, clad in the nation’s traditional blue and yellow colours, who sang the country's national anthem and presented the team with a traditional gift of sourdough bread and salt. Ukraine, of course, have the distinction of taking on the hosts in the tournament’s opening match at 1pm on Saturday 30 May.

Similar scenes will await each of the 22 other teams jetting into New Zealand for the U-20 showpiece over the coming days, while the Kiwi hopefuls will be officially welcomed to the tournament at Auckland's Aotea Square on Tuesday 26 May. In welcoming Ukraine to the city, Martin Fairweather of Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development Limited spoke of the diversity that the tournament is helping to showcase. He said: “Despite being a long way from home, the Ukrainian expat community is rallying its support, and we look forward to some spectacular football."

Each competing nation will receive their own official welcome upon landing at the venue at which they will be based during the group stage. And with Auckland having taken centre stage today, Wellington and Dunedin will be the next of the seven host cities in the spotlight. That will be on 25 May, when Austria - who have already landed in New Zealand - move on to Wellington, while the latter city welcomes both Uruguay and Mexico.

thank you. Please, how many test matches did they play enroute the U17 world Cup? The fact that a team plays well against quality opponents pre-tournament doesn't mean they'll replicate the performance when it counts.

Let us remember how Super Eagles took the game to Italy in their pre-World Cup friendly, what happened when it mattered?

These things are just test matches so the boys can achieve cohesiveness and learn to understand each other on the field, it desn't really count for much in reality

Some people still don't believe that the team is good , even d dropped players , are better than the set of players we have in d super eagles camp . The logic behind this is d mindset of the players, they re hungry for success and they re fully prepared to face the world , at the same time they have d right calibers of players to execute the job... Just a little tactical discipline in d defense line and their "name will be written in gold " people with mindset of " good test match" shld erase that in their mind , these guys are red hot and u can't take it from them .

NFF is broke, says Amaju Pinnick

THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says it is currently finding it difficult to raise fund for all the national teams representing the country in different international championships because it is broke.

The NFF also disclosed that the present board is battling to repay a huge debt portfolio, which it inherited from the former board led by Aminu Maigari.
ADVERTISING

NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, said yesterday in Abuja that the board has serious financial challenges, even as it works hard to ensure that the national teams get the best preparations to enable them do well in championships.

Pinnick, however, noted that the huge debt was not as a result of their recklessness, but because they were determined to give the national teams quality preparation for championships, which yielded positive results with the victories Nigeria recorded within the past four years. “We are facing very difficult times preparing all the national teams with little fund.

For example, to bring about 20 Super Eagles players to camp for a match takes between $80, 000 to $90, 000. Things are very difficult for us at the federation. In spite of that we are still trying to put certain things in order,” he said.

Pinnick also explained the situation that compelled the federation to sign the $750, 000 kit contract with Nike, confessing that the federation entered into negotiations with the sports wears outfit from a weak position.

He revealed that the NFF did the deal just for the purpose of securing kit sponsorship for the national teams after all other companies it earlier approached rejected it.

Pinnick also stated that the current position of the Super Eagles, as well as the fact the national team did not qualify for the last Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea also counted against the federation in the deal, where Nike’s responsibility would only be to supply kits worth $750,000 to the national teams for three and a-half year period.

Reacting to criticisms that trailed the contract, Amaju said the deal was the best the federation could get, stressing that it was in a very pitiable situation that even lesser companies were rejecting the country’s proposals. “I kept that contract to myself for a long time before I decided to share it with the secretariat. I can tell you that the last four years has been the best period of Nigerian football.’

Now we are supposed to be a choice candidate for corporate kit sponsors, but regrettably no sponsor wants to identify with us.

That is food for thought; we would not want to go into details. I spoke with almost every kit manufacturing company but no one was able to pen a deal with us. So when Nike came with their conditions, we said okay, why not. “We had serious challenges securing kit sponsors for our various teams.

I always rush to this office to approve money so that we can go and purchase Adidas jerseys’ that Nigeria would wear,” he said.
