It is interesting that they seem to be defining 'dangerous' as injury/death due to violence (criminal or terrorist originate). But as someone who travels the world extensively and have done for many decades now (including Nigeria etc) I always consider other factors as well and indeed they are every bit as important (or even MORE so) than violence.

Air travel safety! DRC has the worst record in Africa.

HEALTH - possibly the MOST important of all. You don't have to go out at night or stray near a gun battle or deserted area but you DO have to eat and drink and get exposed to insects etc. The recent EBOLA outbreak made parts of West Africa (NOT, I hasten to add, - Nigeria who acted in a timely and responsible manner) very dangerous indeed.

My first trip to Niaja (Pitakwa) was 15 years ago and I did my own risk assessments and investigation before going. I had very little concern and enjoyed it so much that I have been coming VERY regularly since then.

The fighting going on is not between Christian and Muslim as stated but a handful of confused people creating problem at a part of the country, 14 out of 774 LGAs. Nigeria is blessed with great political and religious immunity and self-repair mechanism not too common in the whole world.
The issue of June 12 and recent politicali activities and other sensitive times past and present are enough to burn the nation down to ashes but here we are by the grace of God.
