Nigerian Air Force Inducts New Pilots May 21, 2015 - Uncategorized - Tagged: Africa, Africa Defence, African Defense, African Military, Nigeria The Nigerian Air Force Tuesday, inducted 11 new Pilots with their ‘Wings’ after completion of flight training within Nigeria and abroad with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu charging the young pilots to be prepared for the huge task of fitting into the operational flying environment (fighting terrorism) prevalent today. Declaring that pilot training and general training is one of the key drivers of his vision, the Air Chief said, “To this effect, we have spared no effort in ensuring NAF personnel are well trained to carry out their constitutional duties. For now we have 32 Student pilots in various flying institutions in Nigeria and USA who expectedly would be winged before the end of the year.” Amosu while decorating the pilots made up of 3 Group Captains, one Wing Commander, one Squadron Leader and 6 Flying officers, advised them not to rest on their oars by assuming they have arrived saying, “Flying operations involved a lot of discipline, hard work and diligence for you to succeed”. He said the young officers were being inducted as pilots at a period NAF platforms are being reactivated and new ones acquired, noting “you must therefore key into the developmental strides of the service and be ready for duty whenever it calls”. On Boko Haram insurgency, Amosu said, “As you are aware, the Nigeria Air Force has done creditably well in discharging her duty at the ongoing operation Zaman Lafiya in the north East. The crops of pilots undertaking daring mission in the midst of real danger are testimonies of the qualities of training provided by the NAF”. “My administration deliberately focused on training and re-training of our personnel in order to bequeath to the NAF, a cream of well trained personnel that are combat ready and meet international standards”. The pilots are Group Captains Micheal Ekueme, Essien Effanga and Olayinka Oyesola; Wing Commander Dan Apyeyak, Sqr. Ldr Uchenna Ihediwa, Flying Officer Babatunde Balogun and Flying Officer Mohammed Ndakun. Others are Flying Officers Kabiru Gwandu, Jude Nwaedozie, Tobenna Makata and M. Abdulhameed. Earlier, Director of training, NAF, AVM Emeka Okoye recalled that 15 pilots who graduated from pilots training from FSI, Vance AFB USA and IAC Ilorin were winged on the 15th of April. As reported by Kingsley Omonobi for Vanguard

jln115: Dude, You have succesfully developed various type of defence tools including attack helicopter but As everybody accepts that S. Africa is not a rotor craft innovation/excellence center of the world so Claiming some first time newness regarding performance/device while using a foreign engine is not realistic. It is same for claiming Rooivalk is the first one for this or that. USA is flying with those type rotor crafts since 50-60 years and continuously upgrading them from that time. They have a vast of experience but If you claim that Rooivalk is the first one doing this or that before them, It will be considered among serious members as just a statement typed with purely nationalistic senses. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Henry120: The iraqi government has realised that their continued reliance on US training will not help. they have started going to the russians. just yesterday the prime minister was there calling for military ties between both countries. i may be wrong about the french though. and you are definitely right about US spec ops over reliance on air support. i remember around january when a failed rescue operation was carried out in syria. my brother, if you hear the kind of air support about 10-15 spec ops needed to raid a compound of about 20-30 ISIL fighters, it made me wonder what the trainings were meant for in the first place. i must commend GEJ for growing the ballz to stop further US training of Nigerian troops. i hated the idea from the start and i hope buhari would not make the mistake of reversing the policy. another thing i noticed is that the world has already been brainwashed by hollywood (another US sponsored propaganda machine) to believe that the US military is what it is not. which makes everyone want to ride along. russia was at US backyard in cuba with air defenses. even shot down a US bomber. the only thing the US could do was to disrupt a UN session in protest. imagine if it was Nigera or another weaker foe. i'm not anti american but i just see their military for what it is.... overrated |

jln115: Nigeria would get the JF-17. This isn't in doubt. - T-84, two examples were sent to Nigeria. - Super Tucano was evaluated and dropped. - bofors archer was an honest mistake since corrected. - SU-30, this is also been evaluated, no firm decision has been reached. - the T-129 is designed to be the spear in the Nigerian Airforce network capability program. It is meant to link Airborne surveillance assets, GCS/situation room, attack asset and man on the ground. It is a data link already in place. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Nigeria shows interest in T-129 gunship It couldn’t fare too well against US counterparts in South Korea and the bid in Poland remains iffy, but Turkey’s T-129 attack helicopter can soon find its first export customer in Africa, the old continent. According to reports coming directly from Nigeria as well as leaks from the IDEF’15. a popular international defense industry fair, Nigeria has shown great interest in Turkey’s T-129 attack helicopters to help its forces fight the rising threat Boko Haram poses in the country’s north. T-129 is generally considered to be a more “cost-effective” platform when compared to heavier choppers such as the AH-64 Apache as it provides comparable capabilities at a faction of the cost. T-129 can fire Hellfires or Turkey’s own MIZRAK-U antitank missiles, Cirit laser guided rockets and Stinger/Igla anti-aircraft missiles. It features a 20mm automatic three-barrel cannon and an helmet mounted cueing system that allows the pilot to guide the cannon where he’s looking and engage targets. Nigeria is already a long time customer of Turkish weapon platforms, such as Otokar’s Cobra armored personnel carriers, and has a close political and economic relationship with Turkey. Turkey was previously alleged by various sources to have shipped light weapons and firearms to Islamist militans in Nigeria, but the allegations were successfully discredited and proven to be untrue. overhypedsteve: Forget about mikeczar, he's a retarrd. Can't you see how well the Half-french Helicopter has done........... only 10 units are in active service anywhere in the world, an un-proven platform, whose combat experience is against lowly rebels armed with only AK-47's. It is this attitude that has seen that Helicopter rejected by everybody from Thailand - the U.K. The IKRI is not a South-African build. It was jointly designed by DCD and Mekahog to the specifications of the Nigerian police. Hence it has a Nigerian name. 1 Like |

JUST IN: Unconfirmed report that the supreme sheikh of Boko Haram/ISWA-Abubakar Shekau, has been captured should be disregarded until such a time that it is confirmed by the Nigerian DHQ. . . http://www.naij.com/444309-reports-say-shekau-has-been-captured.html . Reports circulating the media that Abubakar Shekau, also known as Darul Akeem wa zamunda Tawheed has been seized in Bosso area of Niger,by Nigerien troops should be dismissed until proper report is issued from genuine channels of the Nigerian DHQ on the matter. |

Adefuye said that Washington had refused Nigeria’s requests to buy heavy weaponry because of allegations the defense forces have violated the human rights of Boko Haram suspects. In terms of Heavy/strategic weapon trades, EU and USA are so sensitive about human right issues. You should guarantee that There will not be any human right abuses thanks to received guns. Otherwise, Both the operators and exporters are accused for supporting such violations, even If the enemy is terrorists. Think Germany don't sell wapons to a country like Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan as well. They are blocking us not to sell some of our weapons using their own sub-components as well but Turkey as a NATO state may persuade USA since Nigerian-Turkish relations are rapidly growing and If Nigeria insists of ordering Atak helicopters, Then It is the Turkey's turn. |

pavri:Ok so what your saying because it has a foreign engine thus its not a South African design? Do you see the irony in your post? To be honest I couldn't care less what the US has upgraded and what experience they have in what so ever field. And im not claiming anything the FACT still remains that the Rooivalk was the only helicopter in the world able to preform a backflip when it first came out, regardless if it had foreign Engine and Rotor component. Imagine an Apache with a Black hawk engine and Rotor blades yet still had the same performance! This basically what the Rooivalk is, it has basically the same engine and rotor blades as the Oryx yet it has exceptional performance statistics, its a engineering marvel! 2 Likes |

No, your not receiving any JF-17s 2 Nope, no examples were ever sent to Nigeria 3 Jap ,just like all the weapon systems you claim Nigeria will receive. 4 South Africa evaluated the F35, no firm decision has been reached. 5 Your not receiving the T129, just like you haven't received any of the other weapon systems you claimed Nigeria will be getting. 2 Likes |

jln115: I don't care which foreign components you are using on Rooivalk. What I am talking is some needless and childless claims regarding your copter. There is not a thing like "first time Rooivalk did" If you build your copter 40-50 years after operational rotor craft invention and already producing your "engineering marvel" with foreign components. You are dependant of foreign produced critical subsystems (I think better subsystem versions are developed) to make it fly but claiming "the best and first copter doing it" like things. That's what my mind doesn't buy such things. A unmeaningfull subject to discuss 3 Likes |

pavri:Dude if you read @Agaugust's earlier posts you will see it wasn't even I who brought up this whole Backflip argument, @Agaugust claimed that the Rooivalk wasn't able to perform a backflip, All I did was prove him wrong, and just through in the fact that the Rooivalk at that time was the only helicopter capable of such a manoeuver. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Nobody: 10:15pm On May 22, 2015 |
pavri:"compare maneuvrability, reaction of aerodynamic fuselage of your "engineering marvel" with heavier Apache to realize what I am talking" Just before I do i just want to say: not once did I say the Rooivalk was better than the Apache, all I said was that the earlier Apache models like the AH-64A which had different engine and rotor components than the modern Apaches weren't able to perform backflips: Anyway here are a few technical specifications of the Rooivalk and Apache: Rooivalk: •Maximum take-off mass 8 750 kg •Max. Speed (VNE) 167 KTAS •Fast Cruise speed 150 KTAS •Max. Sideways speed 50 KTAS •Max. Rate of climb (twin-engine operation) 2 620 ft/min •Max. Rate of climb (single-engine operation) 1 128 ft/min •Max. Range (internal fuel) 700 km •Max. Range (external fuel) 1 260 km (45 min reserve) •Max. Hover ceiling (OGE) 16 500 ft •Max. Hover ceiling (IGE) 18 200 ft •Vibration Level (4/Rev 100 KCAS) 0.021 g Apache AH-64D(Newest version currently in service with the US) AH-64D Length 58.17 ft (17.73 m) 58.17 ft (17.73 m) Height 15.24 ft (4.64 m) 13.30 ft (4.05 m) Wing Span 17.15 ft (5.227 m) 17.15 ft (5.227 m) Primary Mission Gross Weight 15,075 lb (6838 kg) 11,800 pounds Empty 16,027 lb (7270 kg) Lot 1 Weight Hover In-Ground Effect(IGE) 14,650 ft (4465 m) Hover Out-of-Ground Effect(OGE) 10,520 ft (3206 m) Vertical Rate of Climb 1,775 fpm (541 mpm) Maximum Rate of Climb 2,635 fpm (803 mpm) Maximum Level Flight Speed 149 kt (276 kph) Cruise Speed 149 kt (276 kph) Range: 400 km - internal fuel ,1,900 km - internal and external fuel As you can see, The Rooivalk is better in basically every aspect when it comes to technical specifications, The Apache is obviously more advanced when one compares the Software of the 2 helos, but that will all change if the Rooivalk MK2 is brought back into production! http://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/ah-64.htm http://www.aircraft.co.za/Encyclopedia/D/459.php 3 Likes 1 Share |
