Mikel Refuses to Pick My Calls — Keshi.
• Coach says Osaze has been in touch
Super Eagles’ Chief Coach Stephen Keshi has complained of being shunned by the team’s highly influential play-maker Mikel Obi of Chelsea Football Club of England.
Although the Coach hide the fact that he was not pained by Mikel’s action but it was visible that he would have love to interact with the player since he is an important member of the team.
Keshi disclosed toNationSportyesterday in his Bolton White Apartment Hotel that he put the call across to the player just to know his state of health when he heard that he was injured. He was however surprised that up until now the player has not deemed it fit to return his calls.
“When I heard that Mikel (Obi) was injured I tried severally to get him on phone to ask after his health but surprisingly he did not pick the calls. I sent text messages too but up till now that I speak with you he hasn’t called back or sent me text.
“This is unlike him anyway and it doesn’t mean that I won’t try to call him again. Since he is a member of the team, my duty is to call every member of the team to know their well-being and condition. I also believe that he will call me since we have the national business to do together”, Keshi toldNationSportin Abuja yesterday.
The former International popularly calledThe Big Boss, however, confirmed being in touch with Stoke City striker Osaze Odemwingie who had a surgery September last year and just back to the pitch playing for Stoke City.
“I have been in constant touch with Osaze since he had his surgery and I am happy he is back on the pitch playing again. I spoke with him again three days ago (Tuesday). I have been calling all the members of this team and I can assure you that they are all ready for the task ahead”, Keshi also told Nation Sport.

AFCON 2017: Moses May Not Play Chad.
Chelsea winger Victor Moses could miss out on the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and Chad.
Stephen Keshi, head coach of the Nigeria national team, last week called up 26 players exclusively made up of domestic talent for the game on June 13 in Kaduna.
He is expected to call up overseas-based players to complete the squad later this month.
Moses, an integral member of the Super Eagles, may however be excluded from the list of invitees as he is still nursing a hamstring injury.
The 24-year-old, currently on a season-long loan at Stoke City, picked up the problem during the Potters’ 1-1 draw with West Ham United at the Boleyn Ground on April 11.
He took to Twitter this week to announce that he is looking to make a return to competitive action next season.
“Thanks for your messages about the injury, it’s progressing well and I’ll be back better and stronger next season,” he declared via @VictorMoses.
Moses is expected to make a full recovery on May 31 but with Nigeria’s game against Chad coming up less than two weeks after the completion of his convalescence, it appears highly unlikely that Keshi will be willing to risk him in a potentially bruising game against the unheralded Africans.
The Big Boss had also told supersport.com earlier this month that only “fit players regularly playing for their clubs” will have a place in his squad for the game against Chad.
Moses made his Nigeria debut in 2012 and has been capped 24 times for the Super Eagles, scoring seven goals to date.

AFCON 2017: Eagles’ll Qualify with ease -Keshi.
Super Eagles handler, Stephen Keshi has assured that Nigeria will qualify with ease for the AFCON 2017 billed to hold in Gabon.
Keshi who invited some home based players to camp will lead the Eagles out in the first qualification battle against lowly rated Chad on June 13 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
The coach who was at the Beverly Hills Stadium, Nnewi to watch the Glo Premier League match involving Gabros and Sharks told Daily Sunsports that there was nothing to worry about qualifying for the AFCON 2017 championship, assuring that there wont be a repeat of the qualification fiasco the Eagles suffered ahead of the Equatorial Guinea 2015 tournament.
“My focus right now is the match against Chad and I can assure you that we will do a good job all through and qualify for the 2017 Nations Cup. There is nothing to worry about. The home lads I have invited are good. All they need is motivation, encouragement and the support of Nigerians,” Keshi said.
The Big Boss who pointed out that he had been going to different Glo Premier League match venues said he was looking out for home lads who can fit into his team as he starts the rebuilding of the Super Eagles.
“Before coming to Nnewi I watched Rangers play Giwa. I have been going round and I m impressed with the standard of play and level of officiating in the league. The domestic league is growing,” Keshi said.
Keshi was full of praise for the proprietor of Ifeanyiubah United (Gabros) Dr Ifeanyi Ubah for getting involved in the league by buying over a premier league side and embarking on the construction of a stadium.
“What I have seen here in Nnewi is awesome. I m happy Dr Ifeanyi Ubah has invested in the game. It is a good development for our football,” Keshi said. Source: sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=120765sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=120765

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai has urged the new set of aspiring national team goalkeepers to be up and doing after the recent invitation to erstwhile Flying Eagles and Sunshine stars goal tender Ekene Ezenwa.

Rufai told www.footballlive.ng that whoever will have the national team goal keeping position for keeps must be one who is ready to give a credible performance on a consistent basis for a period of time.

Rufai in national duties with the Super Eagles.
” Whosoever the new goal keeper be, he’ll still experience several challenges but with a string of good performances and perhaps gradually ease themselves into the position and eventually hold down the position.”

The fact remains that a clueless coach will find it difficult to handle talented players.. He will end up messing them and making them look ordinary..

I have opined earlier that, NFF should have appointed a cameo head coach pending till the return of manu Garba and Nduka Ogbade after the u20 world Cup. .

Are you telling me that in the whole of this country the man could not find players better than Egwueke, Solomon Kwambe and the other one that calls himself a goalkeeper? Though I still do not agree that my Big Boss is clueless. He is the Nigerias 'SpecialOne'

Okay, let me cite reasons why I chose to use the word, clueless on Keshi..
1.what had keshi done well since the exit of Slyvanus Okpala?.
2.Have you noticed that he don't know when to make substution, who to substitute? ?
3.No definate pattern of play for the super eagles? ??.
4.His poor squad selection
5.His poor way of reading the game. .

To be honest with you, Slyvanus Okpala is the genius behind the success of Stephen Keshi. He is tactically and technically far ahead of Keshi. I tell you Keshi have exhausted his football acumen since the exit of Okpara. . It's high time for him to throw the towel. .
Do you know that Emmanuel Amunike played a major role with the tiki-taka play of the Flying Eagles?? After his exit, it seems like his absent is not felt thanks to the genius, Manu Garba and Nduka Ogbade.. For Keshi, he had nose dive. .

As touching the issue of individual talent, I rather have a bunch of average players who are a team. I think we have formidable players who are a little bit above average who can get results for Nigeria. .
Look at the players Keshi keep inviting, are they not far below par??. I believe we are blessed with players who are far above average who can do us proud. Finidi George was discovered in far away Malta and at a time, he was the best winger in the world.
We won the nation's cup with average players. When Egypt won the nation's cup thrice, they were a bunch of average players who play regular football not a bunch of rookies who are match rusty claiming to be exceptional.
Sir lexyman, a team who play average players can achieve great result if they play as a team..

Don't Expect Much From New Eagles Warns Akwuegbu.
Former Nigeria international Benedict Akwuegbu has told AfricanFootball.com Nigerians should be patient with the new Super Eaglesunder Stephen Keshiand should not expect the team to be flying from the start.
Keshi has said he will rebuild the team in his second stint in charge.
Gratkorn FC of Austria manager Akwuegbu said he therefore expects a new team, who need time to play together to understand themselves and so play as a team.
"I know that Nigerians want the Super Eagles on top, performing well again to the admiration of Nigerians, but I am calling on the fans not to expect too much from the team yet,” Akwuegbu said.
“This is a new-look team for now as many new players both home and abroad are being called into the team and because the players are new to themselves, they need time to train together, understand themselves and play like a team.
“As time goes on they will form a good understanding and be the Super Eagles we can be proud of again."
The Eagles made up of players from the Nigeria premier league began training in Abuja on Friday ahead of next month’s AFCON qualifier against Chad in Kaduna.
Keshi is expected to call up their foreign-based counterparts next week.

These Eagles jittery says Keshi on first day training.
Coach Stephen Keshihas said most of the players called up for a training camp in Abuja were jittery on first day of the training as the Eagles hit the ground running ahead of an AFCON qualifier against Chad next month.
Keshi, after his first training session since his appointment in March, said, "I like what I am seeing, by the time they settle down, it will be much better.
"Right now, a lot of them are a bit jittery and anxious because they are in front of the ‘Big Boss’.
"I try to work on every department of football, fitness, techniques and tactical play just to see what they can do."
Keshi added, "The potentials are there; this is not the only players we can get in Nigeria, but this is the group that I want to start with and then, we can subtract and add."
Nigeria face their Chadian counterparts on June 13 in Kaduna, in the first leg qualifier for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Keshi is expected to release his list of foreign-based players to join the home-based squad for the Chad encounter next week.
Twenty-one of the 26 invited home-based players participated in the training, while the remaining five players who are from Warri Wolvesare expected to join on Saturday.
The Warri Wolves players invited to the Super Eagles camp featured in their team’s league clash against Abia Warriors at the Warri City Stadium.

Sir to be honest with you, the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in kaduna is amongst the best for now In the country.
Beside, the team needs the crowd to boost their morale to win emphatically against Chad. the Super Eagles have a 100% record in Kaduna.
The big Boss knows why he wants to play his match in kaduna. the team needs all the concentration required to win this game and I think kaduna is situable because it is a conservative state. They will not be oppurtuned to party hard even before kicking the ball against their opponents just as they did in ukwa when they needed just a win against south Africa.. Lolxxxxx.

Super Eagles Coaches experimented all of last year with practically every player invited as strikers to the team, and for all their trouble the Country did not only miss out another Continental competition – Nigeria has a failed to qualify for the AFCON 6 times since 1963- but this era exposed the team that had only just returned from the World Cup for the mediocre squad it was.

Some may chose to lay all the blame on the Coach, other cluster the Football Federation and all else, holding them responsible for the huge lump that has seen the champions of the skies crash to beneath the football food chain.

The aftermath of that inevitable plunge and consequence we could argue is the bashing the team suffered on all fronts since the turn of the year; no thanks to our scientific administrators in the glass house.

Simple scientific theory helps us understand how within a certain degree of heat intensity , glass will melt. But hopefully the Pinnick-led board understand this much as they globe trot, shaking hands and posing with every major profile in the industry.

All that happy-go-lucky feeling will amount to naught should this experimentation continue or even degenerate. Without a doubt by then it would be demanded of this eccentric football administrator and his lieutenants to reconsider much about their policies- Keshi inclusive.

Back to the team and it would suffice to say, the test driving with the Super Eagles must come to a definite conclusion especially with the striker’s position and how poorly the 3-time African champions have coped in that department of the team.

Since 2014 through to 2015 the main Eagles team were involved in 16 International matches; including friendlies and competitive matches. A total of 10 different goal scorers contributed to a meager 16 goals scored and only 6 of those resulted to wins (3).

Ahmed Musa proved to be Nigeria’s most effective (5); though he plays wide and Aaron Samuel was the only striker to come close (2).

Without a doubt this speaks volume of the quality of the ‘goal poachers’ invited to try on the National colors , earn match bonuses and some International cap for future purposes- and a number of them including Odion Ighalo, Anthony Ujah, Ike Uche were invited or re-invited to bring some viciousness about the predator bird.

Osaze and Emenike celebrate during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile it might have been in good conscience, back in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Stephen Keshi offered green passes to 33-year-old Shola Ameobi and Osaze Odemwingie; the latter gave delivered the round of 16 ticket against Bosnia, but elsewhere there was one or more Nigerians who would have made the cut of any serious nation that sought more than just participation money in Brazil.

That same year, Obafemi Martin was in the MLS and had helped his side to cup glory scoring 17 goals in that League campaign; more league goals than that by any striker Keshi took to the World Cup.

In similar sleek fashion, the former Inter Milan marksman has kicked off the new season with more than a few breathtaking performances, goals and his signature goal celebration, all testament that the 30-year-old’s still a crowd-pleaser.

Certainly, the Eagles needs some rebuilding and every experienced hand will be required on board especially as the 2017 AFCON qualifiers draw near.

Who will you prefer as the new Super Eagles top striker?

In as much we would want a positive change of fortune for the Super Eagles I would personally nt subscribe to a sudden change or over haul of the team.

The Ivorien team that won the last AFCON crashed out at the Q/Final of 2013 Afcon and grp stage at the 2014 WC bt they did nt over haul the team. They kept faith with those players and with experience and consistency they won the 2015 AFCON. In my opinion the only players that need to b included into that 2014 WC team are Sone Aluko,, Aaron Samuel, Leon Balogun and Odion Ighalo. I will keep faith with Emenike, Musa and Ike Uche as our top sforwards. Ujah and Ideye are nt super eagles materials for now.
We cant do away with the league and Champions league experiences of Ambrose and Echiejile, Omeruo and Obaobona are the best centre backs Nigeria can boast of now. However, i would like a situation where Leone Balogun will be played at right back and Ambrose moved to his traditional centre back position.
Onazi is still a formidable force at DMF and Mikel can partner Onazi as a holding MF and i will prefer Aluko to play the number 10 position. I would also want to see Ahmed Musa play as a centre forward. Sammy Ameobi (when citizenship is finally converted) and Victor Moses are our best prospects from the wings.

No mind that guy. He just listed the old players who contributed nothing.
He even included Emenike and Ikechukwu Uche, who lost their form this season as our best forwards.
What we seriously need in that team is people like Kelechi Iheanacho, Awoniyi and the other guy in Genk.
With these three, Super chickens will change to the Super Eagles they once were.

Our present under 20 should form the bulk of the team when they come back from their tournament. Steven keshi should be sacked while Manu garba and ugbade appointed as the new coaches. With this changes we will win afcon 2017 and world cup 2018.

I agreed with you that Keshi has his short comings as a coach , but I must let you know this sir. He once assembled a fantastic team to win the nations cup in 2013 and he can do better than that if he's given the support . Although he has his bad side too as a coach ( he doesn't take responsibility when his team fail or when things go wrong) but I think he would have done well in the past if they didn't deny him of his back room staff , he knows his weakness and he chose some caliber of people to work with , but Nff denied him of the resources he needed to succeed . You can't have a perfect set of crew , Manu can't work alone , he knows he needed Ugbade and as u can see they are doing well together and it's yielding results .The problems we have now was originated from glass house , (Nff) and that is what is also affecting our league . Don't forget ,the product of our league is the reflection of what you are seeing in the super eagles ... Except some individuals who have managed to travel out of the shore of the country to play in some funny league around the world . You and I know that we don't really have any exceptional talents among the international footballers we have ,90% of them are bench warmers .

Please take your mind back to the set of players we have in USA 94 . Majority of them were in major league in the world . And Nigeria league back then was very functional and people were passionate about football ,So was the set of players we had in France 98 . Can you ask ur self what has gone wrong?

The Nff has seen their flaws and they re working at the moment to put things in place ...they have a structure already that they have put in place ....which is training of coaches and building of football academy to encourage the youth .

And don't forget this projects are for the future ...if they fail to restructure our league , it's like back to square one .

My brother ,Keshi is not that bad the way u have painted it to be , if Keshi handles these boys after the World Cup , they can become world beaters and we can be the first team in Africa to win the senior Worldcup.
