‘Yale has never revoked an honorary degree,’ University reacts to petition to withdraw Okonjo-Iweala’s doctorate
A spokesperson for Yale revealed exclusively to Pulse that the university has never revoked an honorary degree and does not intend to do so now.

Nigerians who are seeking the revocation of Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s honorary doctorate from Yale University might see their aims frustrated as the institution has no plans of withdrawing the award.
A spokesperson for Yale revealed exclusively to Pulse that the university has never revoked an honorary degree and does not intend to do so now.
The petition for the degree to be revoked was started three days ago by Sunday Iwalaiye, a Nigerian resident in the US, and has now gained more than 5,000 signatures.
“We are aware of both an online petition to revoke and a second petition in support of the honorary degree,” Karen Peart, Deputy Press Secretary for the Yale Office of Public Affairs & Communications, told Pulse via email on Friday, May 22, 2015.
“The university has never revoked an honorary degree,” she added.
Peart also said that the award given to Okonjo-Iweala “joins others that have recognized her efforts over more than three decades to secure debt relief, promote food security, and foster economic and social development.”
The petition urging Yale to ignore calls for the withdrawal of the award was started two days ago by one Valentine Onwuka and has so far gotten 1,690 signatures.
In 2014, Yale was also asked by many, including its own alumni, to revoke an honorary doctorate granted to Switzerland billionaire Stephan Schmidheiny, who was found guilty in 2012 of creating an asbestos environmental disaster which caused about 2,000 deaths in Italy.
Yale refused the request saying that “the revocation of an honorary degree would be unprecedented.”
Dr Okonjo-Iweala was named a Doctor of Humane Letters on Monday, May 18, 2015 during Yale's Commencement ceremony

The "sophisticated" haters and tribalist can now stick their useless bigot opinion up their ass.

Does he think Yale is the overseas campus of Oduduwa university?? Egocentricity and ethnicity has really eaten deep into the society such that it is now exported abroad. A man in far away America moved for an honorary degree conferred on Okonja to be withdrawn for flimsy and useless reasons. When you think such deluded characters are few you get surprised to know up to 5000 votes has been garnered. All stemming from pure hatred!!

Wonder why they tell you only Adesina (GEJ Agric minister) performed very well and the rest performed poorly?

Wonder why they tell you Jonathan is the worst president alive and Obasanjo is an agent of change?

Wonder why Fashola is the best Governor Nigeria has ever known and Akpabio must be a thief?

mumu. according to Yale, Stephan Schmidheiny, who was found guilty in 2012 of creating an asbestos environmental disaster which caused about 2,000 deaths in Italy didn't get his award revoked so, maybe Yale really didn't care abt humanity.

but on a nicer mood, if you think Yorubas lost, then I will say at least, e no reach that kind failure wey Biafra found itself in.

This is victory against the lynch mob from the APC and yoruba tribalists....A victory for Justice, meritocracy and pure economic wizardry. Her sheer force of will, intelligience and let's not forget her simplicity despite the odds and ravenous wolves are attitudes that are to be admired truly. A living legend....After Stella Oduah and Yemi Alade,Ngozi Okonjo Iweala is our next crush.

I do not know why people are bothered with yale.
Like I said before anyone can give any title as long as she is kept as far away as possible from where she can cause damage.
As much as soludo erred in fraternising with the banks and not regulating them properly, no one has ever disputed the fact that he can do better and do a job.
But Iweala is your typical world bank /IMF agent sent down to do an heist job in her own homeland.
Nothing upstairs apart from the packaging and the list of damaging economic theories given to her by her imperial paymasters.

People like her typically see their countrymen as less than human.

Yoruba lost? The Thai Policeman who said the Igbos are a disgrace to the Black Race was quite right.

Bunch of Buffon's like you are the reason why your tribe are called a disgrace.

Guess it is the Yoruba's alone that are feeling the pinch of her economic mismanagement in Nigeria.

Which holes does cretins like you come out from?

if igbos are a disgrace to the black race how would someone rate the remaining Nigerians who are ready to spill the last drop of their blood to keep this disgrace to the black race to the black race in the same country with them even at the cost of sacrificing 500,000 soldiers

Dont be stupid! Must you polarise and tribalise talks?

PS: ALL those persons that cry about tribalism and ethnic hatred/discriminated in serious issues are usually the worst offenders! It's just a way to save face and divert attention from their inadequacies...If you dont knw, thats why PDP lost @ the polls! Buhari is an extremist; buhari is a tribalist; buhari wants to islamise Nigeria...ALL sorts of rubbish!!

If it's about humanitarian services and policy formulation, she deserves it, if it's about economic management, definitely a No No, she failed this time, she should've resigned long ago if Jonathan's cabal didn't allow her do her job. She kept defending a failing government because she hoped she could cover up for the excesses with the next 4 years, but it proved abortive, and now the radar has focused on her...she has probably realized her mistakes

One is yet to recover from the shock that the same vultures who who were few years ago shouting on top of their voices of how buhari abused human rights and imprisoned their people with Chief Obafemi Awolowo house in Apapa buggled and lootedare now same peopl who are shouting sai buhari

Who have you seen carrying a flag stopping you from getting out?

How many of your folks can afford to live amongst your folks for 2weeks in your eastern enclave. You come online singing of eldorado and grandiose as if one is not conversant with the poverty, hunger and lack of opportunities which leads young men of your tribe to their death in Thailand, China and Malaysia.

Go see South Sudan. We are waiting for that your declaration so you can all be joined and leave the country in Peace.

Yoruba lost.

Yoruba did not loose.

Yale never said they disagree with the arguments postulated in the petition letter....they only said they have a tradition they are unwilling to break, however strong the case presented in the petition.

In other words, they are sticking with policy, even when it is faulted on principles.

Get it right!

We are glad Yale took the position because it is now registered to the world and the awareness that Okonjo-Iweala is an incompetent and over rated technocrat is spread globally.

She has been projected, successfully and rightly so, as a liability...and not an asset to the national and regional economy.

This raises the risk and makes her unappealing for hire by any international body working for the upliftment of human society on a global scale.
