mrnilobrawn: I hope you jumped on the offer of admission because I really think those schools did not know what HND was, since we don't have that here. I've never heard of this happening before. I just think they offered it to you thinking it is equivalent, they love international students because you pay double of what we pay, so those smaller school will be quick to offer your a masters entrance so as to boost up their graduate dept (this matters a lot to the prestige of this school, the more graduate students you have the better) The school's don't set the minimum when it comes to Engineering, The CEAB (canadian engineering accreditation board) sets it. If the school messes up they risk having their accreditation withdrawn, if that happens then your degree is pretty much worthless. You'll never be able to get your P.ENG license and nobody will hire you. (When you get finish your bachelor's you get your iron ring, if you dont have an iron ring, you are not an engineer). I've not heard of one case where even people with advance diploma gets an entrance into M.Eng. Its not just your transcript, you need a certain number of hours to qualify to for a B.Eng (or B.Sc in Eng), doesn't matter what courses you took. If you don't have those hours you can not qualify for your bachelors. That's why most schools don't offer engineering coarses in the summer, because they simple can't give the students the minimum amount of hours. A 2 or 3 yr program doesn't let you get those hours. Every school I have came across needs a minimum of a bachelor's to get into a masters engineering program, my school for instance needs to have at least a B average in your undergrad. I'm not saying you are lying. I'm just telling you what I know since I am in the engineering field. Maybe try your luck and apply to those school's nilobrown applied to, you might have the same luck and get in. If you get in, take your masters, go back to naija and enjoy!. 2 Likes 1 Share |

neoneyo:This shouldn't be a big deal; I think they just want to be aware of any changes made for easy identification. I changed from Centennial college to Brock university in May 2014 and my current Study permit has Centennial on it, whenever I have to present my study permit they keep asking why I changed school. So if the policy was in place before I changed school, I won't have to be explaining myself every time. If you want to change school, inform the school first so that they could at least direct you on what to do because a school like Brock don't interfere with CIC related matters but they would direct you. All the best. 1 Like |

Just a quick one bro; how can you qualify to become a P.Eng in Canada with your Naija B.Eng knowing fully well that you can't get admitted into Canada's Masters program cos of grade wahala.Any tips Solo8: |
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 7 by Solo8(m): 11:59pm On May 24, 2015 |
kfrosh: P.Eng is a long process, you have to do a bunch of different things after graduation. 4 yrs of working as an engineer under another engineer that already has a P.Eng designation, you also have to take an exam, there are a bunch of other things that I don't have off the top of my head. P.Eng means professional Engineer, when you get that, you start making real money..$100k plus. 2 Likes |

Crich: @ DONMIKOA, you can get into an MBA without pre-MBA but that depends on the school and most importantly your grade. I did not have to do PRE-MBA. |

Solo8:U still dont get the creteria for admissions. Go back to ur school website and check the requirments for admission into ur program. Relevant Bachelor degree or its equivalent. For qualify for admission into master, u must have atleast 12O credit units from ur undergraduate. U will be surprise to hear my total credit units stated on my evaluation cert from WES. So those Canadians wit just diploma or advance diploma with out P.Eng status dont work in Engineering sectors huh? Naija mentallity. Talking about small school and big school... Is University of Ottawa a small school? Is University of New Brunswick a small school? Is University of Saskatchewan a small school? I hav a frnd who finished M.Eng in University of Alberta with HND from Yabatech, oh thats a small school too right? He is not a P.Eng and he works with an oil company in Alberta region. Dont know his job position tho. Oh bad for u, he did'nt return to naija. Ppl wit ur mindset should'nt even b in Canada in d first place. Oh u can aswell list the name of big school u attend... 5 Likes 1 Share |

kfrosh:US schools uses WES evaluation for admission while some schools in canada do too. Lik MUN, Laurentian Uni..etc. other Canadian school has there own inhouse evaluators. Thats y u are required to send an official transcrpt from ur schools in naija. Have'nt u heared of those with BSc. Or B.Eng been rejected for admission? Your transcript is what matters. Ofcourse u should know the contents of a transcript!! 1 Like |

kfrosh: Solo8:Kfrosh, if u ar looking for jobs at d Management levels (prject managers, safety managers, projects heads, procurments managers, technical director/managers....etc) then P.Eng is for u. Otherwise, entry graduate jobs will give u a confortable life. In Nigeria, how many Engineering graduates working with NNPC,Agip, shell, shevron,.dangote, flour mills..etc) are registered with COREN? Are they not living well with good Salary? I wil end d matter here. Goodluck with ur P.ENG inview oga SOLO8 |

@mrnilobrown@hayqinsbFx@solo8 u guys should keep calm; everybody just trying to share their views. @solo8 doesn't know much about the value of HND that's why he passed such statement. Have seen a lot of dudes that got admitted into top schools in the US even with full funding with just their OND+HND results. Like @mrnilbrown said it all depends on the contents of your transcript and WES evaluation. 2 Likes |

darefestus:We ar all here to learn and guide ppl for ways forwards, an OP was concern about his HND and if there ar ways forwards, i gav used myself as reference that yes he could still be admitted. In that line of convers this SOLO8 of a guy made a very insultiv comment. His first sentence ''I hope you jumped on the offer of admission because I really think those schools did not know what HND was, since we don't have that here.'' sit me up from bed....its only in naija that people jump into something..be it jobs, admission, politics, etc For clearity, They dont JUMP INTO ADMISSION in Schools in Canada, U hv to b QUALIFIED FOR THEM. So ppl should get d memo bf telling me am emotional.... 6 Likes |

Team12:Well, whatever! Let's call a spade a spade, his first paragraph sounds more like an insult on Mrnilobrowns academic qualification. You can't insinuate he's lucky for been accepted when he worked hard for his own result too regardless wether its HND or BSC. Solo8 might have some realistic and factual points, but he doesn't need to sound that rude. His last sentence about bn lucky like MrNiloBrown and going back to nigeria too is uncalled for. Also MrNiloBrown, please take it easy. It's all well and good. You both made your points. Anyone who's interested in that particular topic can make further research. Nice week everyone! 10 Likes 1 Share |
